ABC listen: Radio & Podcasts

It's pretty good overall and I haven't found many of the problems that others seem to have. But there are two very irritating things: Jump back in, and volume. I don't need to "jump back in" to a radio interview I listened to 90% of three years ago - let me easily remove it. And the volume of this app is so much lower than every other audio app I use. I need to crank to about 80% volume on my earbuds for Listen, which is about double what I need for music, youtube, or podcasts.

4 Feb. Started to work, occasionally. Hope there are no bushfires when it has its next hissy fit! 3 Feb 26. Stopped working again! I click news and rn play live icons and nothing happens. Jan 2026. App closed after a few seconds. Won't work. A few days later, started working and now, after latest update, stopped working again!! Uninstalled and reinstalled app, reboot, no change.

I love the concept but there are some essential basics missing in functionality. There is no way to save favourites to a list that can be easily accessed next time. Or same with my downloads. To find something I downloaded I have to manually search and scroll back through loads and loads of previous episodes. Soon I won't be able to find the episode at all, as new ones are posted each day burying it. I want a core menu item called my lists and within you should be able to save your own playlists

Ordinarily good however, the last couple of days it won't load. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it, and it still doesn't work. This has happened before (I saw someone's comment from November which is prob the same time), and it's annoying. The gym is almost unmanageable without it.

this app has lots and lots of content in it but it has issues. it takes quite a long time to open. and it pauses or closes constantly. I just listened to a 3 minute news story and had to press play button 3 times throughout it. I use it to listen to the radio while working and so often find myself sitting in silence as it has closed or paused without me touching phone at all. needs to be fixed or classified as junk

It's really frustrating that not only are there no iView or ABC Listen apps for Roku TVs, but the Listen app doesn't cast to Chromecast. The iView app does so with no issue. I can't comment on the functionality of the app as I barely use it, as most of my media playing is through either the living room or bedroom TVs, both have Chromecasts that work with everything else. I can cast my screen to Chromecast which does send through Listen audio, but this is glitchy and annoying.

The interface is confusing. It suddenly jumped from a series I was hearing to another story I had never seen in the list. If there is categorisation, I can't work it out. Rewind Fast forward, go to controls are inadequate. Advertising drives me crazy.

After the last update its busted (on samsung s22). Playback gets stuck on one item and unable to change even after forcing a close. Basically it's now unusable. UPDATE. Now doesn't load at all via Android Auto. Come on ABC, fix it. 2025 and the app still doesn't load in Android Auto.

Installed 3rd time late 2025. some things improved, for me especially the sleep timer and general behaviour. still jumbles order of favourite and suggested radio stations so hard to find last and regular stations. now frequently stops live radio. no issue playing on web. years ago I gave 4 stars then uninstalled as 2024.10 version was bad. I gave up in frustration and got podcasts on web, and iheart radio for live radio. have Android 16 on Pixel 8. I'll try again in 6 months.

Love this app. There are so many interesting things to listen to! I just really, really wish there was a way to queue podcasts so I could select a few I want to listen to, then just sit back and relax 😌 Seriously though, please add this feature to the app 🙏

What's going on with this app? Used to work perfectly, now can't see a thing on there!! Just blank circles! Very frustrating! Have tried uninstalling and re-installing - one radio station popped up then everything disappeared again. Please fix! 🙌🤞

This app still works horribly with Android Auto. Constantly have to unplug and reconnect my phone as the app says there are no stations. No way to hit refresh, just unplug and reconnect, than magically everything is there. No other app does this, just ABC. Sad, because it used to work perfectly before the "new and improved" version released in 2024. Has never worked well since, even with updates.

I love this app. There's so many great podcasts to listen to. I also manage to grab the occasional live show of ABC Gardening Talkback. Some of my fav's are- Not Stupid, The Case Of, Unravel, Roots & Shoots (WA Gardening talkback), Global Roaming, If You're Listening and Conversations. I'm impatient and hate waiting for the next episode of anything, but I do with these podcasts.

I used to see my favourite ABC radio station on the home page. Recent version has mixed up stations and now I have to swipe or go to another tab to find it. And it seems there's no way that I can rearrange radio station icons, so that I see mine first. And they no longer make any recent full length news bulletin available, only a 1 minute summary, or separate specific 3 min. + items.

Easier to find programs you want here than on a general podcast app etc but some really annoying user experience quirks like why is it almost (if not completely) impossible to navigate to a program from within the episode you are listening to. Have to go and search for that program again when I should be able to navigate there directly if I am already listening to an episode of the same show. And if a show in my favourites list changes it's name, it just looks as if no more episodes were made.

Like many others, the app stops working after a few seconds. I thought it was me, but now realise it's ABC's problem. In frustration I decided to listen via the website. However, even the website drops out all the time, like just now! so have to go back and press play again. It also sounds very static-ky - like an old bakelite radio! Is it really 2025?

4 Feb 26. Stopped working. Uninstalled and reinstalled - no joy. Jan 24. On android 9 phone latest update (2177) does not open. Tried flight mode on then off, powered off and on phone, uninstalled and reinstalled app - no joy. 2174 was OK. Problem started first thing this morning presumably after overnight update.

Still no casting support. This has been years of waiting now. Come on ABC, please support the community with your digital services. Android Auto support is also very buggy and repeatedly fails to load the UI on my screen. This is on a new Pixel 10 Pro.

A disappointing app experience. Updates result in my Android device crashing constantly, previously saved and downloaded episodes and programs have disappeared, and the search functionality is poor. This app is letting down the many wonderful listening experiences that are offered by the ABC.

amazing content android auto app super annoying to get it to "start". it works fine if it's open before connecting car. "abc kids listen" same issue. please fix then I'll give 5 stars
