SCAM!!! They are hiding the unsubscribing function so deep that you have to spend a lot of time figuring out where, in three different platforms, it is hidden, and how to deactivate it. They don't even have an unsubscribe button, and under the "Edit Account," you'll have to figure out that turning off autopay is a subscription cancellation! I'll never return to support this tricky, dirty marketing tactic.
I used the plus version daily for years to get accurate mileage for my daily walks. Simultaneously with the introduction of "Peak," my mileages started showing up as a straight line between the start and the farthest point. I tried many fixes including uninstalling and reinstalling. I believe the only effective "fix" will be to upgrade to Peak. Nope. I'm deleting my payment information and will move on to an app that doesn't try to extort money from me.
Pretty good but could be better. As I use the app more, unfortunately I find more issues with it. I want to be able to simply swipe through the pictures of a trail, but I cannot find a way to do that other than the first few when they are partially obscured by other information, then it prompts me to switch to thumbnails of all images, and I cannot swipe through the full images. Also, if I select a national park, I cannot use filters to select among the hikes. Very frustrating.
There is no way to drop a GPS waypoint on the map. I think it is a must for any hiking app. The other problem is the location indicator. When hiking, it should be smooth as you are changing directions. The location indicator sometimes does not move for up 20 seconds after you change directions. It's not good when you are trying to find your way. It seems alltrails lack the basic essentials for a hiking app.
I like this app for the ability to search trails, however, I wish the trails that charge admission were marked instead of having people drive all the way out to an area just to find out it's a campground and you can't get in without paying. The very next trail we tried was out in the middle of nowhere, it just dropped us off on a residential road where we had no service, nowhere to park, and no trail in sight. We're traveling and so far, this app is sending us on a goose chase.
As someone who has tested many of the apps (for offroading), this app is 50/50. It is great to use for finding trails and checking reviews. However, it lacks in navigation being set up poorly. Does not switch to landscape mode, does not have a dark mode for riding at night, waypoints are difficult to navigate or go to ither than just having to watch the map to see if you are going that direction. Missing some basic items that most of the other apps have for navigation / tracking.
Meh. The AllTrails app has failed me twice now, once at Arches (not a concern as we knew where we were at) and more recently in the Superstition Mountains (which could have been bad, it's empty wilderness.) The app will fail to show accurate location, not keep track of data (distance traveled, elevation gain, etc.) Canceled my + subscription. I'll continue to use AllTrails, but definitely will not rely on it.
Disappointing. it keeps pausing. After several emails, they finally said they 6 stop it. It'll lose location and, subsequently, lose my trail data. I'm going to find a different app. It didn't get one star because it is useful for locating near by trails. Autopause occurs randomly when walking. 20k mah power pack is used. After several back and fourths, tech support said they can't help
All Trails app is pretty good. I'm a plus member and download trails for offline navigation all the time. This feature isn't possible on the app as a basic member. You need to upgrade to really take advantage of this app. The basic free version will be disappointing. I like keeping track of what trails I've done and seeing my stats. I wish navigating worked on low battery mode, but it won't be accurate if you do. It's fine for day hikes, but carry a power bank for backpacking trips.
Use to like the map in this app before they changed it. ABSOLUTELY loathe the zoom feature when you click on more than one trailhead. It makes me lose my place and become discombobulated. Hate it. Nothing wrong with the old map. Bring it back, please. Also, stop asking for my location evey time I go back to the map after looking at a trail. I don't always want what is closest and I'm annoyed by the amount of times I have hit close that I just give up and don't use your app anymore. You ruined it
I was charged even after canceling the Plus subscription. there is no way to get help and having to bring this charge up as a dispute with the credit card company. unethical business practices. I honestly signed up for a "Free Trial" of Plus for a week to test out the offline maps feature (if it worked reliably, I would have kept the subscription) and not only was it unreliable, it didn't work while in a remote area abroad, so kinda pointless. canceled and am now being billed anyway.
Things Alltrails can improve: - when I type reviews, they don't save. - I'm unable to upload photos of hikes I've completed. - the GPS function for when you log a hike sucks the battery of your phone dry. - the algorithm for hike distances and how long it takes to complete are always inaccurate These are long-standing problems within Alltrails that haven't been fixed, although the price of the app has increased. update: all of these issues still exist.
Update: they made fixes and some updates. Works much better now. Thank you! Since the last update, gone are the useful data. Trails nearby current trail that you can click on and the elevation on the trail while hiking (where you drag your finger on the mileage of the elevation chart and see it moving on the trail route map.) That was the awesome piece! Now it's becoming like any other hiking app where you can just see a trail map. That's too bad.
I've used all trails for years hiking in the rockys, the Appalachians, and countless state and national forests and parks. the app isn't perfect and to use everything you need to pay for a subscription. but if all you want is a map of every trail you can find so you can map out your hike yourself, then this is what you want. you don't need to pay for the maps and all the trails and you can even track your distance and location on the free version.
Rating based on using All trails+ feature route customization. When trying to add a 1 mile side Trail to an existing route no matter what I did it would have me go through the entire hike and then redo it with the extra mile. So instead of an 8 mile hike it wants me to do over 16 miles. I have constantly had issues when trying to do route customization to the point where I stopped trying and this was the first time in a long time that I've tried and had the same trouble. Fed up enough to review.
AllTrails App is a must have for hikers. the first year I got this app, I purchased the plus subscription. This is definitely a nice add on and worth the money for exploring new hiking trails or even looking to obtain statistical info. The display of all the information is well configured and user friendly. i did not renew my subscription this year and I do wish I did very often. I think I will once the weather gets better. both the basic and plus versions of this app are worth it!
It was nice to see Alltrails acknowledge their unpopular move with the subscription changes, though but still not enough for me to subscribe again and I feel like the plus members were left out of the solution (where those that did upgrade to peak, got additional free time, but those that stayed on plus don't). I was happy to see some improvements with the Watch App since I last used it, but it's still buggy and doesn't pause/complete activities consistently without using phone.
(will change rating if the refund actually goes through) Still charged after free trial was canceled. Signed up to see our local trails, but discovered they weren't on the app, so I canceled the free trial and moved on. Then I discovered I was charged for it anyway. It wouldn't be a big deal if the app wasn't so expensive, but $85 is a huge charge.
All trails is great for finding trails. But ... The battery drain when navigating a trail is absolutely unacceptable, and makes it impossible to use alltrails for longer than about 3 hour hike. Also, they need better smarts to allow users to configure how soon they want to be intimated when veering off the trail. And need configurable voice based guidance, or some other solution so I don't have to keep checking my phone to make sure I am still on the trail, or which way to turn.
The free app is limited, there is no offline functionality in it whatsoever. The pro upgrade is $30 annual subscription fee. Not a $5 app to buy, or even $50 app to buy, but an ANNUAL subscription fee. I understand this isn't a new thing from other reviews, but this doesnt make it any better. And now they made a nifty heat map feature, but they are UPSELLING IT for even more money🤬
