Amazon Fire TV

when it works it works fine, but when it disconnects and I cant use my remote because it's broken, 90% of the time I have to unplug the firestick for it to connect, and even then only half of the time does the app find my device and reconnect. when it doesn't I just have to cut my losses and try the next day. and yes, I'm connected to the same wifi network.

Undoubtedly the best way to go if the original remote is unavailable! No junk, no interruptions, no slack! #1 remote available by far! Did I mention it is free to use, with most all of the options it comes with?!? Update: After a few years, they have reworked the app and updated the whole app. Although it took a bit to get acquainted with it, due to it being a vastly big change of it's setup, it is better and cleaner than before! 👌 Supurb job, Dev's!

I used to have an older version on my older phone that worked just fine. I installed the newest version for my new phone. All connected well and then we play catch-up. Every press would take a second or two to register. Then it kept disconnecting. Then it would stop then disconnect and repeat. Then it couldn't stay connected. I took out the power out of the stick and it restarted,but after all that I had enough and didn't care to try again watching what I wanted. Also now doesn't connect at all

This app is not user interface friendly at all. It struggles to connect the apps are not intuitive. It's difficult to navigate in comparison to the roku, which is just so much easier and simpler to utilize. The roku app remote also includes the volume up and down buttons. It is constantly disconnecting and impossible to reconnect. I'm still on the same wifi, nothing's changed. Super finicky.

Remote control doesn't work on my TV so I'm forced to use the app on my phone: it takes at least a minute before the phone will connect with the TV after its turned on: by default the TV starts playing ads before I can even control it: i can't figure out how to stop ads other than turn off internet: TV is unusable; never ever buy a "fire tv" again. zero stars

edit: still true in January 2026 2021: If your correct firestick is available to access this is a good app. But at times, even being connected to the same wifi, this app cannot find the device I need to control. Or even worse, the device I want to use is available but the app cannot connect to it. What even is that? If the price of firesticks was not equal to a remote this would not be a problem. I just want to stream peacefully 😔

this app is beyond frustrating.. most of the time I get a 702 error when connecting to a device, then after trying 50 times, it is so slow and clunky when it does work. then half of the clicks I get a haptic feedback on the phone, but then nothing on the tv. then it will click around when I'm not doing anything.

The basic controls are hit or miss when using it through your phone. This is regardless of the app you're accessing, Netflix, Prime Video, Disney, et al. Sometimes other functions happen, ie hitting play brings you to the main menus, pause opens a different streaming app, hitting continue watching selects a different title to play. while these things don't happen all of the time, when they do it's frustrating. Even moreso when the issues happen in tandem. Other than those, not bad...

Broken since last update. I have three devices, and can't get it to detect more than one at a time. How is this not fixed yet? YouTube app is still connected to all three devices, but not the official remote? Feels like we're getting screwed deliberately, and it's planned obsolescence of old devices. This will motivate us to buy a newer one? I will use my laptop

it worked mostly great the first night, except for a few mis-fires when the app failed to discover the tv. night 2: fire TV keeps freezing up. When I try to reconnect my phone to the TV, I keep getting the "no fire TV found" message, even though it was just playing, and the fite tv home screen is showing on my tv. tried restarting everything, but no dice.

This remote had been wonderful until the last 6 months or so. Every once in a while the buttons just won't work. it will connect with the t.v but no matter what button I push nothing happens. I've tried turning my phone on and off again and uninstall and reinstall app but it didn't help. last time it did this it just started working in its own again a few weeks later. I tried contacting Amazon but they never got back to me. my regular fire remote is broken so this is really inconvenient.

I just wanted to thank y'all for not having any ads. I recently stayed at an air bnb that had a Roku for the tv. the batteries were dead in the remote, so I was going to use the Roku remote app. there were so many ads it was completely unusable. like it was an unhinged amount of ads popping up constantly to use basic features on the remote. it made me so thankful that this app isn't like that. and next time I'll just bring my fire stick with me.

This app used to be fabulous. I could never find my Fire TV remote, and it was convenient to use my phone, which is always at hand. However, in the last couple o months, it has gone haywire. Starts scrolling at high speed when I'm not touching anything, disconnects from the Fire TV every few seconds-it's just a mess *And after the latest update, I have to reconnect EVERY TIME!

Great when it works! Unfortunately, it randomly refuses to connect to my TV, which is super frustrating. I'm not sure what triggers it, as it can change connection status from one moment to the next. Right now for example: the wifi is strong enough to stream whatever is on TV, and I used the app to turn a show on, but 30 minutes later when I want to pause or turn off the TV, it won't connect to my device... #annoying

It works great, when it works. However, when it doesn't work, it is USELESS. It has cool shortcuts to different Fire apps and it's nice not to have to scroll through forever when you're trying to get to a specific app, but if there's even mild connection problems, you may as well just chuck your phone into the toilet if you want to use it as a remote. I have had to fully restart my phone to get the remote to connect to my firestick before. But like I said, if your wifi is good, it works great.

Honestly, this remote is really bad. It constantly has to try and reconnect to my phone. If I leave for the day and come back I have to put in the pin again to connect to the TV. Anytime I leave or close the app, open it up again. When it reconnects it pauses the TV for a split second. Also, at least on pixel phones. The vibration for every top of the app is really powerful.

Despite restarting the wireless router, uninstalling and reinstalling the app, putting phone in airplane mode and taking it back out, this app refuses to connect. This isn't always, but it's a persistent issue with this app. Great when it works, but infuriating when it fails, which it does far too frequently. Going to go look for a replacement for the physical remote to free myself from this torment.

It's good when it works. Bafflingly, the frustrating thing is that sometimes it can't find my fire stick. Don't know what changed. TV on in front of me, clearly it's the fire stick, remote not working. Uninstall and reinstall? Does nothing. And this happens from time to time. If they fix that, four or five stars for sure. Until then, it does have unnecessary aggravations that come up from time to time.

This app is great to have as a backup for whenever you may not be able to find your FireTV remote (which happens often in our household!) The convenience of having it right there on your phone at your fingertips is awesome. The only drawback that I've found, is not being able to control your TV volume with the app. Everything else is great!! Love it!!

December 19th 2024, my format changed in the app. The directional pad was made half the size it used to be. It's a pain to accurately click while not watching your fingers. It was WAY better before when the dpad took up most of the phone screen. Why did you make it smaller? You used to be able to minimize the additional buttons for even larger dpad. Even that option is gone. I used to think this app was perfect.
