updated review from 3 star ro 2, music just randomly stops because app crashed...app being laggy, app being kind of slow and bogged down sometimes, isn't as annoying to me as music just stopping and the app crashing, having to force close and reopen the app, and go all the way back to the music you were listening to because this app can't save your spot for some reason. I have an unlimited account, in which Amazon has raised the price. I'm giving them 1 more update to fix this before I cancel.
I feel like this definitely shuffles my music better than Spotify would, but the reason I haven't rated this higher is because of two things: 1) There's no sorting option for your music. Since I like to shuffle my songs, that's not too bad, but it's still a bad exclusion. Sometimes I want to hear a specific song. 2) I already paid well over $100 to get Prime for a year, but now I have to pay a monthly sub on top of that to have premium song access?? That's dumb. I might switch to something else.
The app itself functions well. If you cancel your service, make sure you do it at the end of the subscription period. Otherwise, Amazon will cut it off and keep your payment. This is the only subscription service I've had that still does this. Hadn't had this occur in quite some time. Not surprised though, Amazon is not an ethical company.
Confusing, muddled app. Difficult to navigate, menus not intuitive. Needs UI / UX overhaul. Casting is nice but app is a mess. Example: select an album and hit + to save it as a favorite. Now try to recall it. Where is it? Who knows? Look for an album that has more than one version (remastered, etc.). Truncated descriptions are often little help. Recent updates don't go far enough to help. Some albums have bonus disks that are available on other streaming platforms but not here.
I finally uninstalled this and switched to Spotify! For the past 6 months, no matter how many times I cleared out my cache, uninstalled & reinstalled, and used this on different Bluetooth devices, I'd still get digital skipping whenever I started it! Beyond that, everytime I tried to listen to "my soundtrack", I'd get literally the same songs in the exact same order, for days on end! It was absolute BS to continue paying that much for something that didn't work!
It skips like a CD or I get an error that I can't play the selected radio or playlist. The app on my laptop & TV never work correctly either. And in the last year I keep getting music added to my recently played music and other places that I've never even listened to and don't even like. I changed my password multiple times but nothing helps. Amazon keeps saying they're going to look into it but they don't. I pay a lot for our family plan for nothing to work. 👎🏾
The music selection is good, but the UI is really frustrating. I don't find it intuitive at all, buttons often don't do what I would expect, and it takes too much effort to just get to things like a specific album you want to listen to. Examples: listening to an album and click "Add to my music" should favorite that ALBUM, right? No. It will add each song individually to your My Music page. I listen to lots of different types of music, and I do not want them all blended into one giant playlist.
Weird app. I tried it as a free trial from prime, but it messes up A LOT of the small stuff. I don't have issues with music quality that others have noted, but it's definitely an app that just "doesn't work" more than any other I've seen. Some standouts: sorting is not available aside from some prebuilt options, which is wild. It also will randomly CHANGE the order. If a song plays in a new playlist, it will split it out of the album, breaking the order. It sometimes just has to be reset too
App stops while I'm driving after it's already connected to my car radio, you MUST ONLY shuffle albums and can't select a single song to listen to without paying for it, and it forces me to listen to podcasts when I open the app, and don't listen to anything but music! -100/10 Go to spotify or pandora, it's the same concept but for free, and they don't pretend to sell you something besides commercial free music, which is exactly what they provide, unlike Amazon!
Lately after playing a couple songs, the app just stops playing in the middle of a song and the only way to get it to go again is to close the app, wait a while, then open it again and pay another couple songs before it stops again. So annoying!!! And the problem is on mobile AND PC. Why do I pay for the music service when it doesn't even work? I'm ready to cancel because this is too annoying and a total pain in the rear to deal with. Who only listens to a couple songs at a time? FIX IT!!!
It's pretty expensive for what I get. It crashes too often, putting songs into playlists is glitchy and takes a couple tries, it's slow, the lyrics are occasionally wrong, and isn't very eye appealing. Now, I use it on a daily basis and deal with it, but it begins to tick me off when I go into another app or just do nothing and it crashes, I have a LOT of patience and it's really testing me. And why get greedy and make it so we have to pay MORE for unlimited? We already pay enough for Prime. :/
I have Amazon Music Unlimited and it does not shuffle the songs. I have over 400 songs on just one playlist, and have never heard half of them. I use the app a lot, on my echo, phone, and in the car. I always use shuffle mode, but it doesn't work, it plays the same group of songs over and over. My 1st playlist doesn't show up for me to add songs to it anymore. These problems needs to be fixed or I'll have to think about changing to a different app.
it was very okay a few years ago. The most recent updates have broken some of the more conventional functions. Want to hear the top played songs of an artist? Here's are 2 and then a bunch of random autoplay of artists that are very loosely tied to the genre. Want to make a playlist? Have some of your hand-picked songs from albums with versions you wanted to avoid and then lose half of your playlist because "reasons." And there's the classic app crash. It's aight, guys. Try Spoofy instead.
Used to be my favorite music streaming app. Now it just constantly plays songs we've "thumbs downed" or disliked instead of playing different songs. Does this even when you create a new channel with a different artist or song. Also plays the same songs over and over and over again. It never used to do this until somewhat recently. If I could cancel the subscription I've had for over a decade and get a refund I would, but unfortunately I paid for the whole year up front like usual.
This app is really great if you have the Premium subscription but then once my free trial of that ran out, the quality of the app decreased dramatically. Like, technically - it doesn't even work right. It will play two songs and then just stop and say "restarting station" and then I have to close out of the app entirely to get it to restart and then it plays the same song I just listened to. It did this to me three times in a row the other day and I got so frustrated, I switched to another app.
Update: negative 10 stars. I can't use the "artists" tab. It gives an error and is just a neverending blue circle. I hate this app with a burning passion. It has logged me out and deleted all my downloads, and that's just the start of the problems I've had with this app over the years. It's the only way I can play MP3s I bought from Amazon, so it's my only choice to listen to music I PAID FOR. I'll never purchase another album from Amazon. This app is as useless as you know whats on a boar.
App library is excellent, but accessing the right music is a pain. First, finding a specific album is a long convoluted process. Second, suggestions don't let me tailor my likes by saying "don't suggest this artist", so this feature is more annoying and spammy than useful. Third app has to be in airplane mode for downloaded titles to be visible or work without major delays. Finally, and somewhat off topic, there's always a "skip" at the beginning of the first song played, in any device.
The recommendations are usually good. I've been using the app for years now and some changes made are a pain. I have the Unlimited plan and so I have Playlists with hundreds of songs in them. They removed the quick select which makes it more time consuming to find the song I'm looking for. Also, I like to play it from my TV sometimes and the TV app is such a disappointment. I selected a song from a Playlist, but you're not able to do that and they aren't #ed which makes it hard to find the song.
There are probably worse music apps out there but this is the worst I've ever had to use. Navigation is awful, every screen interacts differently, sometimes it won't let you play a SPECIFIC song you have purchased and downloaded - I have to start the whole album at a different track and skip forward until it gets to the one I want. If I sold music this is the last platform I'd want it on, it's a small step up from just "doesn't work"
I have been increasingly frustrated with Amazon Music. I used to be able to play songs on repeat and my playlists played songs in the order I set them up in but now it "shuffles" them and changes over to non-playlist songs after about 2/3 of the original playlist. I pay enough for my Prime membership as it is and I am unwilling to add a $10.99 per month Unlimited subscription to get these types of features, if it offers them at all. Streaming usually runs smoothly unless you are outside.
