ANC Explorer

"Search unavailable - network connection failed". There is an error, but the problem isn't a network connection. I have full signal bars: enough to download the app, and to leave this review. I tried this morning and a few hours later, same result. The place is great and the staff are wonderful. This app didn't work at all for searching for a grave location.

Concept is excellent. Implementation is lacking. Find a Gravesite feature is nice. I helped someone locate a gravesite number. But actually pinpointing the location on the map didn't work. That's a needed feature. Explore Map was awful. Every time it started zoomed out to world view and slowly zoomed in. But instead of zooming in to my location, it zoomed to the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Selecting Satellite or Street view produced the opposite results.

Update (10 Dec 2023) The app will black out the the pictures of the tombstones when you click on them. What used to be a useful app, has rapidly become a useless one. For the past four months or so, everytime I try to search a name, keep getting the same msg: "search unavailable - network connection failed"

Perfect for finding friends and relatives interned at Arlington. Data on service member, plot, map location , and inclusion of headstone really round out this app. Only thing I find frustrating is that the program tines out automatically after a couple minutes and I have to go back and enter all data on service member again. Can't find a setting on the app to leave the program open and running while I am walking to a plot on arlington.

Agree with previous reviewer. The App will not connect on my Android phone. Same "network connection failed" result. ALL other apps on the phone work fine and this only started a couple of months ago. As a local resident and guide in the Cemetery this renders the App useless and is often a problem helping those looking for a specific grave. Fix it!!!

I go to Arlington National Cemetery two or three times a week. Older sections can be confusing. I learned of the ANC Explorer perhaps a dozen years ago and downloaded it. I found it to be very useful in locating a particular site in a difficult section. However, currently, I cannot get it even connected to my phone. "Connection failed' the Explorer app informs. This has gone on for about three months - maybe more. Since roads west of TTUS have been closed for repairs, a good app is needed.

Mixed bag. App worked well enough that I could find my departed friend. Section and grave number, mapped location. When at ANC, inside perimeter, app would not provide any information on individual grave location. App behaved as if geo-blocked. The app did provide information on primary points of interest such as monuments and the Tomb of the Unknowns.

DON'T BOTHER DOWNLOADING The app was nothing but a battery killer. The map function did not work at all. It zoomed out over African then the Atlantic and NEVER zoomed in to Arlington. The website search will not let you search on your phone, the only option you have is to download the app. The only thing that the app did do was search. but forget about all the other functions. I ended up just using Google Maps to get me to the area I needed .

Arlington is great, this app is not. 1Excited to find a grave site in Arlington, I tried using this app. It constantly would freeze, and not navigate. While standing in the pouring rain, I was finally able to get the map up and I took a screen shot. Glad I did, because the app wanted me to walk back to the main gate and back another route that was only 1,000 from me. I finally found it. Then I ran into a guy wondering around because his app was freezing and we had to do it all over again.

implement real location into the app for easier navigation. I just found the location of the grave on their map, then used Google maps to place a pin and walked to the location. worked well.

Sadly, this app was essentially useless during our visit this past week. Really disappointed. I wanted to visit so many graves, to pay my respects, but it just kept freezing up, and when it wasn't, it would send us completely wrong ways to get where we wanted to be. Only had one day to spend, and most of it was wasted. Wish they would fix this, as the reviews said a lot of the same things we experienced, but I wanted to give it an honest try. Kind of wished I hadn't now. Really a shame.

The app was helpful in location the gravesite and showing you photo of the headstone, but using the map feature to locate the site is next to impossible. It simply freezes. Tried several times and just doesn't want to cooperate.

Horrible, I've been here many times, always impossible to find anything using this piece of .. software. Clicking on blue squares (gravesites) on the map does absolutely nothing. I rather use google maps for orientation in the cemetery. Disaster.

Attempted to use the App to locate the grave of a family member buried at Arlington and found the App was not user friendly. Would like to see it changed so that it operates more like one of the driving apps in that in it will correct your direction as you are walking toward your destination.

I can if the graves I was looking for (2). The first showed up perfectly on the map, with walking directions. The second shows a pin and nothing else. No map. No directions. One must close the app and reopen it for another grave site's directions. Keep working folks!

When the app works, it's great. But it froze or crashed so often that it was worthless most of the time. 2 other people in my group had the same issues when they tried it.

Every time I attempt to use this app it always says "Invalid entry" or connection problem when there's not!! Please fix it so I'm able to look up my grandfather's grave! Thank you

I found my parents' and sister's graves easily with this app. It's easy to use and even provides directions to graves. It shows photos of headstones, which allowed me to verify that my Mom's service was correctly noted, just as my Dad's was.

App doesn't work to find a gravesite or any query. Backend is definitely broken and not connecting to servers. Basically useless at it's current state
