app was great last year. it would read anything on the screen. including memes. and pictures with text on them. now it won't read anything. except for time on top of phone. so I deleted it and re-downloaded it. now no matter what I do or permissions I allow. it does not work at all. it just keeps bringing me back to its settings page when clicked on to try to use. all settings are on. I miss one this app used to work. it used to be the best
useful app, works well on Pixel phone. would like the ability to do extra sessions without it deciding to cancel my next planned one eg if I do an extra set at 10am, it doesn't then notify me about my 1pm set. also, would be great to be able to change the notification sound, so I know which notification is coming in. otherwise I like the app.
I like it when it works, but often it doesn't. I'm dyslexic and use it a lot for spell checking since I can hear mistakes easier than read them. but it disappears if you need to force stop any other app and for reasons I truly don't understand, it doesn't even work for google messenger drafts and I can't have it read back what I'm actively trying to text. it doesn't even work here as I'm trying to write, but it works on discord and youtube comments, so it's not like it can't be done.
This set of Accessibility Settings is not in it's finalized form, because it's got Apt of bugs that need to be fixed! I'm not sure about the specific bugs, but I'm certain I've encountered several of them while using the Accessibility Settings to make it easier for me to use my Android phone! The biggest issue that I can think of at the moment is that there's an issue that keeps causing the 'Select To Speak' feature to stop working and I have to go into my settings to figure out what's wrong!
Don't know why after selecting words and clicking right button for it to read but no sound at all, but you can find setting of text size and speed. My phone is working well, only it cannot. It had this sound many months ago when I used it. Recently it has not had. I am thinking to delete it for saving phone space since no use at all if no one can help me with solving this problem.
This app is very helpful for reading articles or long scripts. It does have its limitations as I can't read all text, depending on the application, but that's okay. The biggest irritation on the recent update of this version is that It takes control of the volume keys and changes it from notification to accessibility. And there's no way to change it back unless I disable "select to speech". Even trying to use the toggle of "use volume keys for media" doesn't change the keys. Please fix it!
Was great until a few months ago. Several months ago "accessibility man" put on the bottom started randomly switching the button for SELECT TO SPEAK off. id go back into settings and readd. I gave up and switched to side buttons to activate. it work without any issues for a while. now if I rotate my screen while activated, it turns off, and I have to restart it. also it spuratly pauses while playing
I don't understand, this app doesn't work as it used to. First it forcefully captured the media volume button, and now the little figure at the bottom right disappeared and I don't know how to change accessibility volume because it's not visible. Can you just give us the old version from 6 months prior? Maybe don't fix something that is not broken? Thanks!
I used this app for select to speak. this feature is incredibly useful but if I'm not currently using it then it causes issues on my device with the volume control defaulting to change the accessablily volume and not the media volume (this is a new thing that didn't used to happen) and it causes issues watching YouTube shorts as you can't get rid of the up down and play arrows if select to speak is turned on, even when your are not currently using it
All I want this app to do is read ebooks on my screen. Instead, every time I turn TalkBack on, it closes whatever ebook I have open, and when I finally get it to open the book and not immediately close it, it reads a paragraph at a time and I have to click to the next one. I didn't think anything could be worse than Kindle's built-in TTS, but I stand corrected. And Play suggests I uninstall updates to fix it, which I'm not sure how to do but which suggests this is a known issue.
The volume bar now appears in all screenshots since updating this app. I've tried pressing the buttons out of sync or in-sync but the volume bar now always appears. Very irritating issue. Temporary fix for others experiencing the same- you can use the 'swipe to screenshot' gesture although it is much more inconvenient. Will be forced to delete the app and find another accessibility solution if this isn't fixed soon.
This app unexpectedly took over my hardware volume buttons on a OnePlus 8. Media, ringer, and notification volume could not be adjusted-only Accessibility volume was available, with no warning or explanation. I spent time troubleshooting what appeared to be a system issue. somehow, YouTube music is the only app where volume control is unaffected. Normal volume control returned immediately after disabling the app, and then reappeared when re-enabling the app.
Switch Access is not removed from the Accessibility Suite on Android 7.0... but I am happy with trying TalkBack, as a person who can see, it's has an additional use of being able to use the Google speech reader because of a broken screen... it's good to get it setup on a connected display screen.
This app unexpectedly took over my hardware volume buttons on a Motorola Razr 2024. Media, ringer, and notification volume could not be adjusted—only Accessibility volume was available, with no warning or explanation. I spent hours troubleshooting what appeared to be a system issue. Normal volume control returned immediately after force-stopping the app. This behavior should not occur without clear user notice or an easy way to revert it.
This is only thing I hate about the phone !! trying to get phone open to turn it off. then to figure out how to turn it off. even then, with phone locked, knowing how to turn it off it was a fiasco. would like to disable it! ok after reading some of the settings I see what it can be used for. that would be neat. I just don't like to accidentally turn it on while in the middle of something else, I don't like being able to access it from home screen . it's to easy to hit by mistake. .
Bug: Volume buttons no longer control media when select to speak is enabled. All of a sudden in the last couple of weeks, the default of my volume slider is Accessibility. My "Use volume buttons for media by default" button is still checked. please fix!
this app has really helped me having recently gone blind not being able to read anything. I would give it five stars but I hate the fact that now it took over my volume buttons for my media and I have to go into the menu to actually change my media sound which is really really annoying and it shouldn't do that because it didn't before.
Whenever Select to Speak is added to the Accessibility Shortcut menu and not while in use. You will not be able to take a screenshot without the Volume Control slider popping on screen and ruining the screenshot image. This must have happened in a recent update last week. I had uninstalled the entire Suite before I found that SELECT TO SPEAK is the problem. Please fix this feature.
I'm blind and relied on talk back for my phone screens. Then someone had the not so brilliant idea to integrate it with gemini AI, which is the worst thing ever. I can't use talk back or my phone with this and it's just sad. I doubt there were any usability tests conducted WITH the people who rely on talk back. It's a shame really. I'm also looking forward to the series of data breech incidents going to arise by overriding consent of data users ab initio.
Recent updates have seriously impacted Select to Speak for accessibility. In Love and Deepspace, it no longer reads on-screen text or dialogue and only says “Game View,” same with other games. whereas it used to work before. In apps with long-form text like X (Twitter) and Discord, Select to Speak now ignores highlighted text and reads the entire post or message instead, making it hard to focus on specific sections. It also now takes control of volume but it's fixed, can you fix the other issues
