Started off great, but crapped out in less than an hour. I found it very useful to move fingers from my Google Drive to my phone. However, when I tried moving groups of 25 or 50 files, it was hit or miss. Sometimes it worked flawlessly, sometimes it froze after moving 3-6 files,b and sometimes the transfers never started. While I appreciate the efforts of the developers, I find this app to be of little use if it can't be consistent.
Awesome app! Left ES File Manager after their plug-ins started getting intrusive. Small issue you may encounter: if you attempt to make an SMB connection, and you don't have the share name correct, there does not seem a way to remove the connection. The solution is to click the "logout" option next to the failed connection, and it drops off the list. Other than that, works great for when I need to move files around in my NAS and don't feel like firing up my laptop. Highly recommended!
I remember this app used to easily let you see and manage the files under different categories. I used it to clear out the junk under "system" and "other." They must have changed it cuz I can no longer do that which greatly reduces the benefit of the app for me. Also it's not updating correctly. Shows storage as only 88% full when it is 99% full. Please fix.
Not worth it. Ugh. I used this app on my old phone and it was so useful for helping me organize all my files on my phone and extra memory card. But when I went to download the recent version on my new phone it wanted to track data?! So I immediately uninstalled it. Astro, I would have paid at least $5 for this app, you don't need to make money by selling data or whatever it is you're doing with the data you track.
For over seven years, Astro used to be an app that I always could rely on... Ever since my phone upgraded to running on Android 13, it's like the app has lost its will to live -- crashing every time I try to use it. (And Android also telling me that Astro crashed while running in the background). Still works on other devices, but even then, not as well as it used to.
I would not upgrade to version 7.5.0, which is this update. The app wants to many permissions. It wants to run at start up, and run a foreground service. I'm not accusing them of data mining, however, it is quite possible. Every app wants to run at start up. If every app runs at start up, your device is going to be slow. There's nothing wrong with the current installed version and no benefit for upgrading. You most likely will see a lot more ads. I'll decide which apps I want running.
Been using ASTRO for a long time, it does it's job. It also has connectivity to cloud services, which is convenient. 2021 update: As far as I can tell, cloud integration is gone, so there's absolutely no reason to use this app over something like Samsung's base file browser. Otherwise, seems fine and does the same things aside from the lack of cloud integration.
Several years ago, I really loved this app, but I am now uninstalling it because although sure, it carries out its basics tasks without much trouble.. (1) Surface level, the app itself is visually unappealing and the icons look outdated. (2) When renaming a file, it does NOT automatically append the default file extension to the name and will corrupt them if you don't do it yourself. (3) There is NO functionality for batch renaming: to me, that should be a dealbreaker for any file manager
Unfortunately in the last few weeks the app is no longer useful because it consyantly crashes fron the time you first open the app. Rebooting the phone does not help. OLD REVIEW BELOW: Good for copying, renaming, deleting and organizing files into folders. Works well. If you are use to Microsoft Windows file manager for PC this app is not very intuitive but once you figure out how the controls work to find the files it does everything you expect from a file manager.
Immediately uninstalled. At least they disclosed it up front but they collect information on how you use your phone and ALL the apps you use, and literally do not give you a choice. You click the 'I don't want this' button and it prompts you to agree anyway even though it says you can continue without agreeing. It's not possible to continue without agreeing. Sorry but you don't get my data just because you're free.
Will not connect to OneDrive if you login using Microsoft Authenticator App. You will authorize and it takes you back to login page. But you can login using password. Also, you cannot sort files in folder by latest date nor is it clear what the some of the icons mean. Last time I used this was in 2012 and figured I would give it a shot in 2022. I will use it for a couple weeks. Therfore, I may change the 3 stars.
Why all of a sudden do you require my usage data? I paid for this app. Requiring me to give you access to my other app usage for an app I purchased...really? I understand you may want more data from users but at least give us an option to opt out. As with all the other recent posts, I have uninstalled this app. That's a shame really since it is a very useful and good app.
I thought that guy above was being a little paranoid when I first read his review, but he's right, your privacy policy is no good. Collecting that much info so that I can use your app? I get that you need to push ads at me, but I would rather just pay for a full version that doesn't collect my name, phone number, contact info, browsing habits, apps installed, phone usage time, etc. than for you to subsidize development by selling off my private info (even though you assure me that you don't.)
I've used Astro for a while and I've always liked it. Easy enough to use. Now i'm having the same issues as some others. Moving files from internal storage to SD card and the files are 0 in size. It's like it makes a useless copy of the file but doesn't actually move it. I had to install an earlier version but it eventually updated itself so now I'm using another app. I'll definitely use Astro again once/if it's fixed.
Decided to uninstall the app due to the new permissions, where the app can "read, modify, and delete all files on this phone and any connected storage devices". And if I grant access, "this app may access files that aren't related to the app without notifying you". Yea, nah I'm not comfortable with approving sooo, it's been a great time, bye.
I recently moved photos from one folder to another, they all went to zero bytes, thankfully I had them backed up, but this is unacceptable. I have been using this program for years, but now, besides losing files which it did twice, it's also crashing when I try to add photos to social media posts I don't know if this is because of my phone, running Android 7, or if something has gone drastically wrong with the app but I have had to uninstall it. I hope you can fix this.
It wants to track and report the sites you visit, and which apps you use—which seems unnecessary and somewhat creepy (though you can keep declining each time you use it). It also apparently wants to do its own updates, bypassing the Play Store (it doesn't even appear on my "installed apps" list here). I'm not sure exactly what these folks have in mind, but it seems to be more than just letting you manage your files. :?O
This is a rant review, it was going smoothly, I'd give five stars if not for what happened today, when I found my zips, that I created with the app, no longer show files, I still have the files inside, checked in my PC, but still they don't show in this app. Also why don't you bring back the option to edit and add more stuff to zips without unzipping? Edit, I gave it a second chance first problem fixed, but now it creates empty zips.
It used to be the best file manager on the market, back in the fay. But now, it's just horribly-optimized bloatware. It crashes regularly, struggles with basic tasks like hiding or unhiding files, and sometimes loads indefinitely. There are more issues, but I don't want to make this review too long. I really cannot stress how bad this app is to the point of nigh-unusability.
Opening the app "asks" if I consent for the app to monitor a bunch of stuff on my phone. We're supposedly given the "choice" to opt out by clicking the "I don't want this" button... Only to be transferred to another page informing us it's mandatory, and the only option there is "I agree", after all. In small print there's a "you can actually opt out if you go to settings" , but I've already had enough with your games... I don't want to agree even long enough to disable it from settings!
