The new version 4.0 loses a lot of the functionality and ease-of-use that previous versions had. Examples I ran into include no discernable way to login into one's account. I can't find a link to login anywhere. One would think a login link would appear on the landing page. Not anymore. Also, there is no way to share a link to a vehicle. At least none that I could find. I guess you figured no one could possibly be shopping for a car for someone else and need to share a link? Really?
Limited ability to narrow searches, very hard to get results. Example; no way to eliminate wreck/salvage vehicles. Any other app can eliminate vehicles without clear titles. Also very annoying is lack of accuracy for filters they do have. They don't always filter anything, showing vehicles with features that you didn't want just because they pay a premium listing fee. Was my premier car shopping choice now craigslist offers a better user experience. Just plain sad.
I have used Autotrader for years, both to buy and sell vehicles. This latest update... Makes the experience horrible! Quick note to Autotrader- This is how you lose people forever! There's a lot of competition out there, and if this isn't fixed soon, I'll just figure out what other thing works reasonably well for me. And once I figure that out, why ever come back.?
Log in doesn't work, logs you into an external browser, so this is essentially useless. Might as well just browse on the mobile website. I otherwise really like the app layout. It's just a shame I can't use it to save searches. Edit 1: "Autotrader, Inc. August 3, 2021 You can now save searches and vehicles without logging in or creating an account. Login is now available in the latest version (4.1) of the app. Tap the "More..." button and you will see login at the top of the screen. Once logged in, you will have access to both your previous and new saves and you will stay logged in. We hope this helps." This essentially reads as "yes, our app is broken, BUT it's not as broken as it could be. Also, that thing you just said doesn't work? Well it does work! Just do what you already did and things will be different!" Except that they're not. Nothing has changed. Here's the thing, y'all. You can only save so many searches when not logged in, and when you're looking for a car on a budget, you save everything that you can. I maxed out my saves in a matter of minutes. I should just be able to log in like normal (which I cannot, as I mentioned in the initial post). A more helpful response would be, "Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We'll actually just work on the thing you're concerned about rather than deflect and ignore your actual concern." Droppin' a star for that. You've been a household name for decades, guys. You can do better than this.
Ever since the search bar function update the app has become. Unusable. The drop down menus from before were easy to navigate and a pleasure to use. The new search bar function doesn't work very well, and it's hard to find what you're looking for. It's also a hard search bar to use as far as clicking on it and typing in it. Please add an option to use the drop down menus again on the main screen. The worst joke is how the first screen says it's easier but then makes it much harder to find cars.
The app never applies filters, it lies when sorting vehicles, and it is filled with fake listings. Despite the filters available in the app, it never actually applies them. If you search for a 2012-2017 vehicle, it will populate the top results with new 2019 models, amd sprinkle 2018 and 2019 listings in the results. Also sorting by anything doesnt work - it always puts the entire set of sponsored listings first, then premium, and then basic. Dealers pay more for the higher listings.
This is one of, if not the buggiest apps I use on a regular basis. If you spend long enough browsing the app will inevitably crash or stop responding and need to be closed and re opened. If I accidentally hit the back button from my results it defaults to the home search screen but locks up 50% of the time. Currently it is not loading at all, it just stays in the home screen and never loads the search page. I have had similar experiences through multiple phones with multiple OS's.
Used to be pretty great, although last version crashed every time you adjusted your search. New version is terrible. Not user friendly at all. No keyword entry available anymore. Can't select transmission style (most of the time), sometimes you can, other times the menu item disappears altogether. So sad. Used to love using auto trader app. Now it's a disappointing headache.
Definitely the easiest app to use to find a car. Filtering down to the make, model, and trim level is easy and very well laid out. The ability to further filter by color, and specific features is the best. Some of the sponsored cars definitely are annoying as they are pushed to the top of the list and are not relevant to the search. But they got to make money somehow so it's acceptable and understood.
The new app LOOKS amazing. The interface is very easy on the eyes and easy on the system, completely different than the laggy, outdated versions of the past. But despite the new face lift, I prefer the old laggy one. With the old laggy one, if I wanted to look at vehicles with 6 and 8 cylinders simultaneously, just to rule out the 4 cylinder cars, I could do that. That's not the case with the new one. Search engine is not nearly as customizable. Very good new look, not as good of a service.
Very happy with the app, I love that I can simple go on, type in anything and everything I want to look at and boom, it's there. Everything from interior color to what size engine and to where it's located at. I would like to recommend that when doing the filtering by lowest to highest or from distance, I know you get paid to advertise the car deals but try and put a solid separation between the ads sales and the actual cars. And could you add in a filter for both lowest and closest car?
This app makes me re-login every single time I need to respond to a buyer. And even though I'm using the same valid password it says to input a valid password and I need to reset it. Once finally logged in, it's slow to load and very cumbersome to message prospects. It's literally the worst app I've ever used and it's completely inconsiderate of my time.
Autotrader is my go-to source for car shopping! They offer a great selection of vehicles for any budget. I love being able to choose how far or close I'd like to shop/purchase. Also, whether I'd like to schedule a test drive and/or go to the dealership for pick up and paper work completion.
It is a waste of time to use the filter to narrow my search. It says I have +/-15 matches. When I look at the results there's a total of 300. It's just like going to a dealer and the sales man showing you everything but what you're looking for.
does an okay job showing you cars listed. Shows too many sponsored cars and makes it very easy to miss listings that fall in your search criteria. Sometimes I'll be led to a dealer website then fine cars at that dealer that fit my criteria that Autotrader didn't show me.
Won't let me delete saved results. Keeps asking me to sign in. No editing of default search results. Locks features behind making an account. Never seen an app look to sell your personal information so badly. edit 1/8/2026: You cant even save anymore. why are they taking features away??
latest update caused problems. now when looking at the list when you swipe thru the pictures after the second swipe it opens the listing instead of just staying out and seeing the pics. makes for more clicks & swipes then before. also the filters are now not displaying correctly, an option will have one number in the parentheses but a different number on the show button.
The cash cars listed by Sebring Toyota are all unavailable when you go to look at them. Yet they still show available on apps with cars for sale. We found an amazing team at a Toyota dealership outside of our county that gave us an amazing cash deal on an older car. Sebring Toyota says it's your "Auto Traders" fault. But I got the feeling it's theirs.
the stability of this app has been on a stay decline for years. more crashes, freezes, and show performance. search parameters haven't updated on a decade and prices to post keep going up. fix your app Autotrader. add more milage variability in search. make it so I can filter between manual, automatic, and cvt transmissions. stop just updating the UI without improving performance.
Notification spam! there are a couple notification settings that are enabled by default. Disabling them gets overridden once you back out of the notification screen though. So I had to disable notifications at the OS settings level. Do app manufactures not understand that some people would engage with their apps more if notifications don't blow up their phone all day long?
