The service and the bikes are fine, but, if you didn't use the app for about a week, then it takes forever to reach its servere next time you run it... Sometimes it's 10-15 minutes of fruitless attempts, and me starring at the black screen, before a map shows up... clearing the cache and restarting the app do little to fix this... 🤷🏻
Bikes won't let you change gears uphill. Sometimes the electric part won't work. Unable to return a bike? You have to lock it up, hold a key with you everywhere, and set up a time to give the key to support. All stations that are popular either are too full with bikes and lack "parking", or are completely empty. The app will only sometimes give the correct number of bikes at a station. Additionally, you might accidentally dock into a station that doesn't work. Put support on speed dial.
It is VERY important that you make sure that you have correctly docked the bike after your ride. You should receive a text soon after docking your bike. If your bike is docked incorrectly your ride will still be going and they will charge you for the time after that 60 minutes, and it will run up charges. Their team is really responsive and are willing to work with you. I like the app, it is very straightforward and easy to use. I plan on continuing to use the app and the bikes.
This app is horrible. The bikes took a while to load onto the app, I had to keep refreshing. Yesterday, my boyfriend and I rode two bikes less than one mile, from one dock station to another. We both locked the bikes in the station, but the app did not register that the bike had locked and I was charged a $75 fee. For a ride less than half a mile. Cool.
Had some kinks, but support was great! We rented out 4 bikes. The rental process was easy, but it took us a few tries before we found 4 bikes that all worked. We had to exchange 2 bikes due to them not working properly. Also, when trying to exchange one bike it didnt register as being returned so it wouldnt allow us to unlock another bike. However, when we called support they were quickly able to fix the problem.
This app would be SO nice if there were EVER bikes available, but there just aren't during the semester. If you're considering this as a dependable means to get around town, don't bother. You're much better off getting your own bike. Seriously--you can pretty much count on there not being a SINGLE bike available during the semester. And when bikes ARE actually available, it is a gamble whether or not there will be a technical issue with it. When it works though, it's great...
Worked alright after some experimentation. The app is not very user friendly, but once I was finally able to buy a pass, the bike unlocked on the second try. Bikes themselves are quite nice, although mine had a little trouble shifting gears, probably due to the fact that, based on reading other reviews here, the people riding them don't know how to shift an internally geared hub. I also wish the plastic cover over the front didn't prevent from switching modes to use less battery than default.
The app is extremely confusing to use. There is no clear register option, it took me fumbling around and tapping random things until I figured out when you click get riding you then tap on the option you have dropped down. Super annoying. Map is inaccurate, to return a bike you have to practically slam it into the lock for it to register. The bike was super dirty on my hands and pants. But it was super cheap to use and the bike ran well. A good idea but the app needs some major work.
First, the unit immediately locked the bike I unlocked. $5 wasted. Then, you apparently cannot return to "any" station. Only an available station. Had to bike back to the next open station .8 miles out of my way. App is uninformative and unhelpful. Customer service was also unhelpful and a waste of time. Worst short term rental experience I've had.
These bikes are awesome, my girlfriend and I have had so much fun with them! I would have absolutely left a five-star review if it weren't for the fact that there's a hidden auto-renewed subscription. Once the subscription starts (and I don't remember opting into it recurring in the first place) this app makes it pretty complicated to cancel it. BCycle, I love what you're doing! Please make this better, send me a response, and then I'll change this to a five-star review right away :)
Garbage. App is useless, hangs constantly. Returns errors whenever I try to check out a bike. App only show a fraction of the bikes actually parked at any given station. Me and 2 other people were standing at a station trying to unlock a bike. We all three got errors, but 30 seconds later the bike unlocks on its own. Who checked it out? The world may never know. The service is unreliable at best.
This would be a zero stars rating, but that's not how these things work. It takes forever to get a bike out before it autolocks back and I have to punch another random code in. This is my 2nd time using the app where I've been met with the same "error" message when trying to unlock a bike that I've paid for. It also says "zero" bikes at every location marker whenever I go to find a location even if bikes are clearly locked up. Fighting to use this apps ruins the fun and I would not recommend it.
Terrible customer service. They will tell you one price and hide the real price in a long agreement contract that they know most people won't bother to read all the way through when it's all too easy to be upfront about the cost. It's not that costly of a service. It's the principle of having hidden fees. They do not care. If you contact them, they have staff who just dont care. If I had known the price upfront, I would have gone to my destination and finished my ride, but I was misled.
There's so much wasted potential here. Nothing about the app or bikes works correctly. The app doesn't interface with Android password manager, the stations frequently don't unlock or register returns correctly, the bikes are often broken (won't turn on or stay on), the charge of the batteries is shown inaccurately on the app, the app hangs and crashes, the interface is slow, it frequently overcharges. I'm a passionate cyclist and I want this to work smoothly. It doesn't. Not worth the effort.
Poor quality application, non consumer friendly product. when trying to access your account setting or view passes, the application reloads the map 2 or 3 times before letting you into the settings page. The business model of rentals is squeeze as much money out of the first time customer as possible so they can keep in business. A recreational user shouldn't have to pay more than a monthly pass to use the bike for one day. DO NOT PURCHASE single ride if you intend to use more than 2 hours.
Good bikes. Horrible app. First off the bikes are very confusing to rent. Even worse is that when I returned the bikes it didn't proccess in the system until the morning after so I was charged for almost 12 hours of riding when I only rode for 30 mins. I hope they can get there app together because the concept is great however until then I absolutely wouldn't recommend this app. Also note that I called customer service twice and I have yet to receive a follow up email or call.
It can be fun, especially in the right place and weather. But I can never use this app again, unless I have a prepaid pass. The station rarely recognizes that the bike has been returned, so it just keeps charging every minute after you return it. This happened last time I tried, and I swore off Bublr. I just finally tried again, and it happened again. It's not like there's a "I returned it" button, so you just have to text Bcycle and hope they get back to you while you continue to accrue minutes
App is very unreliable and buggy. Stations break down and don't register returns, or show 0 bikes when there some available. When the app doesn't register the return, you may get charged for the extra time - in two occasions I had to call customer service, leave a message and hope for the best. What a shame this company did not test its systems more thoroughly. Bike sharing is a brilliant idea... When it works
Great concept, horrible implementation. What started as a $6+ for 2 day passes ended up being over $30.00 per day because of a stupid and inconvenient policy. The fine print said that you must find a bicycle dock and plug it in once an hour or you'll be charged and hourly rate regardless of if you purchased a day pass. I'm never going to use the system again and encourage people to buy a bike instead as its cheaper. You shouldn't have to stop every hour and find a kiosk as they can be far away!
I was a visitor to Austin. I downloaded the app and bought the 3-day Explorer Pass for less than $20. I was able to check the bikes out for an hour at a time, and I could see the entire downtown area and both sides of the river. Downtown Austin has a lot of bike lanes and the drivers and pedestrians seem pretty used to bikes. I had a small problem when I returned my bike to an offline station, but it was easy to resolve by calling. great way to see the city and very affordable.
