So, the way I see it, Bitdefender's mobile AV is pretty decent, I think, at what they do, and it isn't as overly heavy on system resources as their Windows version(s). However, Mobile Security for Android is supposed to be part of the Windows Total Security package, yet Bitdefender allows about half of the time (or maybe a little less) for trial than it does for its Total Security package. So, well I'm still evaluating the windows version, I'll be switching to ESET for my mobile security.
Unfortunately, since the last update, the app keeps crashing. It has worsened over the last week, now constantly. I've checked all the settings, cleared the cache, etc., and I still keep getting notified that the app keeps stopping. I'm wondering if this is a known issue, and if so, how to correct it. Hopefully, it's an easy fix, as Bitdefender's troubleshooting process is, sad to say, very daunting and tough to get through if I'm remembering correctly. 😔 Bitdefender, is this a known issue? ETA
There's only one thing that this app does that Play Protect doesn't do; App Anomaly Detection. It is really the only thing worth paying for. But it turns off... all the time. Several emails with devs on multiple occasions say they don't care. The *least* you could do is drop a notification to indicate it's not turned on so I am aware and manually start again. but no. don't care. therefore I have cancelled subscription and will not pay again.
It's good, but not perfect. I'm running a S21 Ultra and no matter what I do, the web protection keeps getting disabled by Samsungs optimisation system. I've excluded it from power save, data limits, etc. No luck. Not the end of the world, I just enabled web protection again. Still poses a security issue and it happens every other day give or take. But when it does work it's great. It's incredibly lightweight in terms of resources and ease of use and accuracy when hunting for malware is amazing.
I got it for the filescan feature, which was useful and appreciated, but I really disliked the amount of unnecessary push notifications I got even though I turned a bunch of them off. I couldn't find a way to turn them all off, so I guess I'm just uninstalling and finding a new security app. Please add an option to disable ALL unnecessary notifications.
this app is a scam. I used it for a year and then canceled my subscription. (They make it next to impossible to cancel) Even though I canceled they continue to try and charge my card multiple times each week. Thank goodness I changed debit cards over the year and the one they are trying to charge is no longer valid, but I still get notifications they are trying to charge me. I would email them directly but you cannot find anyway to contact them.
Someone else mentioned a subscription that wasn't advertised before installing. That and I have to create an account just to use it? I didn't bother with verifying my email address, just deleted it. Update: I work in IT, and I fail to see how an account and subscription are the only way to "enable core protection features". The cost of living in America is going higher and higher, faster than before, and expendable income is becoming less affordable.
The extra features I pay for conveniently turn themselves off. For example. Web protection, chat protection, everything except the malware scanner. Yes, I uninstalled and reinstalled. Seem to cure it for a couple of days. For the price, I expect these features to remain on consistently. Im happy with the piece of mind I get when the product is working, I probably won't renew.
So far, no complaints. If you have your phone locked down, like Fort Knox, like I do, it can get a little tedious putting your code in for every time you open your app. Really had to play with the settings to get it just right. Also went with the VPN add-on as well. It's not a bad combination. I wish it could do URL and email address lookups on the fly for emails you aren't sure of, though. Reverse number lookup would be a nice touch as well. Would recommend
I just installed it based on recommendations from computer magazines. However, during and after installation, they constantly try to sell you every piece of software they offer. They make it look like they're included until the end when you find a charge. They even try to charge you to help install the app on multiple devices. I always thought came with the software under support. Their antivirus better work for the price they charge. UPDATE: It keeps tryin to sell you more software!
I agree with a negative review from long time ago that says that other apps constantly turn off protection and every time you check it, it says the protection has been turned off. App does not notify you the protection has been turned off. I tried it on all of my seven Androids. Took very long time to install, it's complicated and it really doesn't work. But I did get my money back so thank you. That's why they get 2 Stars otherwise they would have got 1. Wish there was a way to give 0 stars!!
Coming back after a year with Malwarebytes. They've added a pervasive and useless notification that's impossible to get rid of (already contacted support). "We're looking out for your device and data." I don't need that always in my notifications. It seems up be nothing more than an ad for something I've already purchased. I really don't appreciate that kind of manipulation tactic. Fix this.
You have to delete all other malware. The initial activation code didn't work. A week later I got a new one. I paid for 3 devices, when I try to add another is says 'trial expired'. Customer service is on bankers hours. Basically the least convenient protection I have ever set up. And to weeks later in still arguing to get coverage on multiple devices.
Its a great app I just downloaded it a few days ago and can see where it had already started working in my favor. Beware of 1 thing though, it is not a 100% free app. When you sign up a subscriptions page comes up w/ an option at the top to "skip" as though u won't need a subscription at but you do. You get i believe a 14 day trial period & then it will automatically start charging u. But the best thing is it's only $16. And change for an entire year of it right now so if I were u I'd get it!
It works pretty slick doesn't slow down my service. when I turn off my data or wifi, it turns off my bit defender, and it complains about that quite a bit. You just gotta turn your wi fi back on or your data. sometimes it'll take you to installed apps to turn it back on. I wish it wouldn't do that, but at least i'm protected very well. rather easy to install and run.
Have use BD on the advice of my computer repair tech. Purchased the premium package that covers 5 devices, plus VPN's. I have had BD for several years. My only complaint, trying to reach out to tech support! I have had to do it on several occasions, finally gave up! Now I have questions, I try to find out the answers myself. If you have suggestions about a better way to reach them than clicking, tech support and waiting for a reply?? I feel like the program does it's job? As far as I can tell.
Working great. Update: I gave a generic review (above) as iI had just DL'd the software on my Pc and then my Android phone. Here's more feedback. The software is setup for any novice user to be able to install and initiate without any complication. There is a multitude of applications, almost to a fault, to cover all your needs. So far everything works as it should and with one of the highest reputations in anti virus and malware detection, I don't forsee any complications. Thank you
I've read the reviews for similar apps. This gets top marks. Worth the price, and there are more expensive but less effective ones. Easy to set up then ignore, letting it do what I got it to do. You can pay by the month or less for an annual fee paid all at once. I like that feature as for now I pay by the month but can--and will--switch to the once a year plan when I have it.
Edited 02/14/2024: I'm pleased to report that lately I haven't noticed receiving any more of the undesired reminders to "purchase additional (meaning beyond the main Bitdefender Mobile Security) products/add-ons" beyond my initial purchase. Only possible tweak: The pop-up to switch to Bitdefender's secure browser when it "thinks" I could require it for additional security, is still a bit bothersome. It's like receiving a "false alarm" more times than not. Thank you.
Used for several years and seems to work. My issue is the auto renew! They press you to auto renew at a ridiculously high price and make it extremely difficult to do otherwise. Once you jump through the hoops to stop it, then they get in to the haggling to get the price down to a reasonable point. This goes on every time! This is hardly what you would expect from a reputable product. DO NOT ENABLE AUTO RENEW!
