Decent service for a decent price, until you factor in their faulty docks. I used this a moderate amount, and one day out of the blue i get hit with a $26 charge, claiming I never docked my bike. I ALWAYS make sure that the green light activates before walking away for this exact reason, so I know that's not correct. And the best part? When BlueBikes "realized" it wasn't docked, did it notify me in the app? No, of course not, they sent me an email almost an hour later. Risky and not worth it.
Works well for what it needs to do, but seems unnecessarily resource-heavy compared to other similar apps, and it sends ads via notifications with no apparent setting to turn them off. I had to disable notifications from the app at the operating system level, but that means potentially missing actually important notifications too.
Tried to rent two bikes during my stay in Boston, put my info into the machine followed all instructions and the app kept canceling out and not allowing me to scan the codes on the bikes. Sat and messed with it till my code timer would have run out. Now I still have a hold of $50 on my bank card with no services being granted. TL;DR - Wanted to rent 2 bikes, faulty system is keeping my money. Not impressed and quite upset.
the app service is very reliable. However, when a bike docking station is full, they provide no compensation for the extra distance you will be forced to go to get to another station that is available. Unfortunately, what the staff at bluebikes and Lyft do not understand or presumably refuse to acknowledge is the time it takes to walk back to your destination from an alternative station which is at least 15 minutes if their are no exceptions like the boston marathon which could take a good 45min
Bikes are generally good although many times they have problems which makes difficult to use. (Although it is possible to ask for repair once docked) Assistance answers after 1 day generally and not during the weekend often not considering all the question you ask them Number of docking seems to be random, near to crucial services (supermarkets, universities ...) There are only 10-20 dockings which makes difficult to always secure your bike. It could be a useful service but needs upgrades!
This app is good but it could be better. For me it doesn't snap exactly to my location upon startup and I find it a bit slow to calculate a route for you. It's hard for people who are red green color blind to use, and the docks switch colors when you are out on a bike so that green becomes empty rather than full. It might be better to simplify to a single blue bar denoting how many bikes are at a dock. Overall a great service and I'm glad to see the city adopting more bike friendly practices.
Absolutely horrendous experience with this product. Stations are constantly offline, causing bikes rentals to stay "open" and requiring me to call customer service every time. 6ish times in fewer months.Once the bike I'd used was rented from a station while it was offline and it went missing. Showed up about a month later across the city, but not before multiple calls in which Bluebikes customer service made sure I knew I was liable for $1200 of it didn't turn up. Absolute trash service.
Astounded. -- Locate nearby bike stations. -- Easily locate other stations along the way to avoid additional charges. -- Plan out your trip. -- It does have the same shortcoming as Google Maps, though. Namely, detailed directions that take you completely out of the way. --- Just stick to the map and you'll be fine.
Updating the app wiped my ride history, removed my annual membership and made it difficult take out a bike. Should not have updated. No help from support yet. After nearly 3 weeks of calling and no follow ups, my account had an option to repurchase the annual membership free. One star for quality of support you will get from this team. The first point of contact people are nice, but have no power to do anything. They simply escalate issues and you must hope you will hear back (i never did)
Got misscharged as the app doesn't automatically renewed my subscription. The customer service got angry at me and hanged the phone instead of recognizing the app/service was buggy and was in an inconsistent state. The second customer service guy told me that in the email it says that i had to add a second payment method, which unfortunately i don't have. After unfrozing my card there was no way in the app to renew my subscription...So now I'm unable to use the app with subscription.
The app does not provide the most up to date docking station availability info. I had to ride additional 2 miles to return the bike because the last available docking spot near my house was not working. This was a very frustrating experience for me. Not sure if I want to ride those Blue bikes again. It's not reliable.
I was visiting boston on work, and with the exception of one or two bikes which did not undock (i was not charged) the experience has been seamless. The bikes themselves, although heavy are better than many other comparble bike services; more than 3 gears and they roll really well. Using the app to unlock a bike is excellent and 20 dollars for 1 month of essentially unlimited useage within the city is excellent. Is just a shane they havent expanded the docking stations locations (e.g watertown).
Their bikes are great if you want to explore the city. There are a lot of stations around. Their map is not the greatest if you want to look for a bike key when you purchased an annual membership. However, when I called them, their customer service was really helpful. The angle points for different prizes are really fun as well.
Blue bike is a good service but I just installed the app and chose "Choose a Pass" and it errors out with a generic "Something went wrong" error. Couldn't get past it, no matter what option I chose for locations permissions. With an app update that fixes this I'll change my review but it's currently unusable. I have a pixel 2. Update: app is completely unusable to me. I signed up through the website and was able to sign up, but the mobile app gives me the same generic error when I try to log in
Half the bike racks have no or almost no available bikes at any given time. There are many broken bikes at the racks these days which I think is the source of the problem, bikes not being fixed. Customer service used to be by phone and was excellent. Now they send you to a web form outsourced to Lyft! Yet you can be charged over $1000 if you cannot successfully dock the bike. A few times the rack seemed to be broken and I could not be sure it was working--phone customer service is needed then.
I have been calling Bluebike customer service for over a month and have not gotten a single call back or response. I bought the Bluebike membership and after 2 weeks, I was not able to scan any bluebike. I just got the message "error, you cannot rent a bike at this time." I have tried reinstalling the app multiple times, changed my payment method and have called customer service multiple times. Although my case has been 'escalated' I have not gotten any response email or via a phonecall.
Terribly managed. I've used this app for 2.5 years. Stations go routinely offline for days and still accept bike docks. So even if you docked the bike properly and got a green light, the app still holds you responsible for possession of the bike because the station is offline and doesn't report to the app that you returned the bike. It takes days to get this resolved and ensure you don't get billed for extra hours or missing bike. Oh and you don't get to rent bikes in the meantime.
Day pass is a scam. Purchased a day pass. Entire, full station was broken which prevented full usage of the pass. Called for assistance (no on app chat available) and they would help or offer a refund. Seems like they purposefully prevent usage of the pass through "malfunction". Do no reccomended.
I like the concept, but the app is very buggy. It will say that I've not returned a bike when I really have. It will also say that there are empty docks when there are not - leading to a wild goose chase for empty docks across the city in very dangerous biking conditions.
Bluebikes is an extremely convenient bike membership program. It's cheap, there are a ton of stations, and you can quickly unlock a bike with a key or the app. I highly recommend becoming a member. The app itself is simple to use and makes checking out a bike an easy experience. Good work all around!
