When I first started this game, I really enjoyed it. As I got further into it, I was finally getting the hang of finding words with more than 3 letters. But the red tiles kept showing up...more & more. The whole point of playing any game is to relax & enjoy, not to be continually stressed with your red tiles. I even took the time to write in & say so; & what happened? Even more red tiles! The game has lost its fun for me. Uninstalling. Tried again. It's worse
It's a pretty good match to the old computer game and it's pretty fun. It's also really, really, really annoying that i get an unskippable ad everytime i level up. And you level up a lot. It's like getting punished for being good at the game. I'm happy to watch ads for a reward but if the reward is "just being able to play the game" I'm gonna be mad about it
5 stars - This is my all-time favorite game, and though it's not the original, it's a great game. Graphics could maybe be better. They are a little plain. It still gets 5 stars. That was in 2020. Now.. 4/25/2024 - 3 stars - Well, it's almost 5 years later, and the game got to acting screwy. Long story short, I now have the New-Classic Bookworm. I don't like it. The board is smaller, it's a lighter color, the letters move in slow motion, but the fire tiles burn much faster. 👎
In view of the fact that original full versions of Bookworm aren't available now (a huge disappointmt), this small version is still fun! This game is smaller, so players must work harder to create words from fewer tiles. It keeps score OK, and there are tutoring tips, if needed! I would really be happy if the full versions again become available!! But this small version will do for now! :)
Really enjoying this game. I don't mind the ads, even downloaded a couple games to try. The game takes you up level by level, throwing in golden, green, or fire tiles. Gold and green are extra points.Fire tiles have to be used or you burn your game and start back at level 1. You control how far you can go. So far, I've gotten almost to level 70 before being burned. Longest word for me has been 8 letters. 3 letter bonus words are extra points when to get them. Relaxing game.
Update- I love the game. However, I opened the game after, playing hundreds of levels and this time when I opened it, all the game totals were gone, I was back at the beginning with the smaller basic level. Not sure what happened Old Time favorite!!! I love the Bookworm game. It is a very relaxing yet strategic game . I love wordgames and thinking games. Bookworm have always been my number 1 favorite. I'd been wondering why it wasnt on googleplay and Im glad someone decided to add it. Thank you.
Reasonably decent recreation of the original ipod game, but I would hardly call it "expert". Stays true to the original graphics, sound effects, and game play, but it never seems to increase in difficulty, no matter how long you play. The bonus words never leave the 3-letter stage and the fire tiles are only moderately challenging. On the plus side, there are very few ads (just at the end of each level) which is a welcome change from most game apps these days.
A reduced version of the original bookworm which I LOVED! When I saw "Expert" I honestly expected an improved, more sophisticated version and was excited. This is boring, not as challenging, the sound effects are blah - the worm does not exist (it was hilarious when it would digest the words and say things based on your game). The board is smaller. I don't think it's a total loss since it still maintains some aspects as the way to connect the letters and drop down the tiles, but other than that, the magic is gone :(
The game is fun, if somewhat limited in comparison to the old game. But still fun enough. However, they have recently added in a feature where an ad pops up and you can't close it for at least a full minute, and if ypu click anything, it tries to force you to install the game. I literally can't take a sec to pop out abd check a text without the install window coming up if there's an ad. If this continues, I will be uninstalling.
This is as close as you get to our old well-loved PopCap Bookworm! You can play for hours practically uninterrupted, as the ads will go away if you hit the back button, and you can pause the game when you need to, and even if the app gets closed out you are able to continue where you left off. You are only playing yourself , no one else is involved . Very addictive ! Update 3/7/20 : the addition of frequent, LONG, unstoppable ads has decreased my obsession with this app.
I really like this game and enjoy playing it. Ive learned some new words too. After the update tho, I'm not liking the burning tiles. Too bright and distracting. Also the levels change too quickly. the game advances a level after making one or two words and most times it advances 2 levels, which is annoying. Bookworm has become my game of choice to pass the time, but please fix level advancement. More frustration... 2 days after I left the review, level advancement is now 3 levels! Please fix!
I really liked the old PC game and am glad to find it for the phone. A lot of people are complaining about the number of ads, but they must have a different version than the version I downloaded the other day. I have noticed ads when the player advances a level, but in no way would I call them excessive. Additionally one can purchase an upgrade to do away with the ads (the "watch an ad for a reward" option will remain according to the explanation next to the purchase option).
The game frequently kicks me out so I have to start over and lose the points I've gained (over 500,000 in one game today!). I wouldn't call this Bookworm "Classic" as it has limitations, such as a smaller grid and no more than three letter bonus words. As a game of it's own it's fun but it's not Bookworm. Also, I can't turn the music off, despite clicking and unclicking the music icon.
Too many ads, not enough points, I mean 1 point per game or not many more than that! I really don't go for the points since I am an excellent player. My top scorer during the last 3 or 4 years has been over 4 million points in one game exclamation point so if you need to hire somebody the know how to play this game, I'm available period and too many red tiles. And I know what this is all about, if the player gets too many points, the red tiles start falling heavily. This is not a puzzle.
02/06/'25: game is fun however an ad pops up every 11 seconds. It's Very interrupting during actual game play and quite annoying. Especially when they pop up during the critical part of the game where the letters are on fire. I like this game but waaayyyy too many ads so it's becoming less fun and has me thinking about uninstalling. Games are supposed to provide fun and enjoyment, not annoyance. *UPDATE: 02/11/'25: I'm Uninstalling due to LOTS of ads interrupting game play. Not enjoyable!
I used to play Bookworm on my desktop computer years ago and loved it. So glad it's now available in the Play Store for my phone! Bookworm is a simple game that challenges you to form words from a board of random letters to earn points. Each letter is worth certain points so you can strategize to make high scoring words. No timer but some letters will explode if not used before reaching the bottom of the board. I can play Bookworm for hours on end. Excited to play it again!
Fun. Ads come after each level, but they are short enough not be annoying. Game sticks at times when swiping on letters; after you clear (erase) the path you've made and try to go a different route game keeps picking same letter you've started with the 1st time, that is frustrating. Other than that, cool game. Similar to the original. Great to pass time.
It's about what I remember from playing this on my old desktop in the era of Windows XP- except for one issue. The game throws ads at you far too often. And unless I misread, it's $2.99 to remove 2 ads. That's a rip-off. Reduce the ads, or make it simpler to pay to remove All ads at a fair price? Easy 4-5 star game for word nerds like me.
Well, it's just like the original game, except for there aren't as many bells & whistles. I seem to remember the original not being so cut & dry. I give 4 stars because I have been wanting to play this game again, but haven't been able to find any version on the play store. Kudos to the devs for taking the time to translate the game to Android.
I love playing this game and I was really happy to get it downloaded on my phone, but you only get three letter words and even if you get the word that you're supposed to be searching for you can still get burning tiles. I also don't like they just started putting commercials in when you're finished with each level. Isn't there a way to override that like other websites and such? Very disappointed.
