Holy moly what a horrible first launch process. I was redirected to a browser 6 times, prompted to accept notifications, firmware update, ink subscriptions. Get out of my face. I'm not updating my printer because my third party ink finally works, and if it ever stops working, I'm dropping this printer from a 10 meter high window. Brother becomes more anti-user with each passing year.
Here's a moronic idea - instead of setting default print settings such as paper tray and type, AND THEN ALLOWING THE USER TO CHANGE THEM TO WHAT THEY NEED, the app just locks those in, to heck with the user!! You can change size and # of copies, and that's about it. Otherwise, you have to mess around with trying to change settings at the printer itself. To say this is frustrating is an understatement - I'm ready to ship my $800 printer straight back and buy a different brand!
Breathtakingly terrible. I tried all different ways, using all the troubleshooting methods and couldn't connect my printer. Somehow, the printer also screwed up the IP address on my laptop when I tried connecting it that way, which was an extra sweetener. Terrible software, worse than bad, a dumpster fire flying out of the sky into a landfill of spectacular failure. I used an old fashioned USB cord and now it works.
They want ALL of your information and for you to make a freaking account to connect to a printer. It's ridiculous. If you just want to use your printer, you must skip through at least 6 pop-up style pages to reject their "offers", spyware, notifications, unnecessary online account creation, etc. I can print from my phone at least, so 2 stars are warranted. Printers shouldn't have bloatware.
You go through a lot (for a printer) to create an account with a 10 character password, upper, lower and special characters, email, "enter your phone number to get optional texts", but then entering your phone number isn't optional! the app then needs your printer model. You can wait for it to work it out or you can select it from alphabetical list of all models theyve ever made. after more Hocus pocus it tells you to use the iprint&scan app instead, and invokes Play Store for you to install it.
Too finicky; too complicated; print spooler service frequently hangs up and won't even allow canceling print orders that have hung up , requiring frequent "force stops." Also, trying to control multiple Brother printers with the same computer leads to apparent incompatibilies between the Brother "iPrint&Scan" and the Brother "Mobile Connect" programs (each required for different Brother printers). This inter-platform incompatibility is very frustrating!!
app sucks. literally 10 pages of advertising for their products. when I scan my 10+ documents, there's an internal error and I can't do anything but click out and rescan all my documents and hope it works. needed a second app to connect and scan, and also the loading times for exiting error pages to redo things is crazy. the editing page also sucks, preview doesn't even show up and rotate one page rotates all of them.
It works fantastic! Super easy to install, select your printer from available devices, and you're ready to Rock & Roll! One thing I did decide to do was set my default printer as grayscale, rather than full on color. I did so to save on my color toner cartridges from needlessly being used up on color background objects. A huge money saver, indeed.
It's named really poorly, so I can never find it in my app list. EDIT: You responded to my 3* review with "If you still need assistance..." I just wanted to make sure my feedback was clear: When I try to find this app in my phone, it's really annoying to try to find "Mobile Connect" because the name doesn't have anything to do with "Brother" or "Printer" which are the first words I would try to search for, when searching for the app in my apps list.
Worked absolutely fine up until yesterday. Today it's completely refusing to connect to the phone that it knows is there. Nothing has changed. I've spent the whole afternoon uninstalling and reinstalling everything to no avail. Exceptionally difficult to set up in the first place... The printer is now completely useless as we use it for tablets and PCs. Edited to add, it's no use keep replying to comments with please contact us ... There's clearly an issue that needs a fix!
The app works. But even though there is an option to "select machine" when using the share function. the app always gives an error rather than actually just switching the selected machine. You have to back out, then select share again, and then it will successfully print on the second attempt. Seems like something that should/could be easily fixed.
Their printers are the best in the business, but this app cannot find it. Their iPrint&Scan app finds the printer quickly, but doesn't know what to do with it and tells me I have to use this app instead. Luckily, I happen to know the IP and entered it manually and then this app can figure it out. Also, this app has so many dark patterns trying trick the user into signing up for things they don't need and probably don't want. It's pretty shady. The printer itself is amazing though, as always.
This app doesnt work. I tried for 40 mins to print from my phone and nothing worked. I did all of the trouble shooting steps and nothing happened. It just kept saying that I wasnt connected to the same wifi network when I clearly was. It work wirelessly from my laptop. Annoying app with too many apps that you need to download just to use the feature.
Doesn't work well (or is not needed?) in Android 14 at the moment. Google's default Print Service and the Brother iPrint and Scan apps both found my printer with no problem. This used to work for me. Now when I try to set-up a printer, the app gives me a spinning circle forever. The app usage shows 0 bytes of network data used. It appears to be blocked from network access by the Android 14 security settings. I can't change the OS settings. Since I no longer need it, I'm uninstalling.
Tried to add a printer manually and automatically. Nothing worked. Kept saying "make sure the mobile device and printer are on the same network". They are. And both connected via wifi. I even tried to enter the IP address. Still didn't work. This app sucks. The iprint one works fin. But sucks because of the limited and outdated features. Be nice to be able to import an address book.
seems fine. I'm printing from a different room. I don't hear it printing. I wanted to save the file and print later just in case it didn't print, but don't seem to see the option. will try another way Still trying to get some reasonable use out of this printer. Definitely my least favorite in my many years of IT. Unable to save info in PDF format when online. Still unable to send or receive a fax. Ink is extremely expensive and is used up due to an auto cleaning process. Can't find help.
It has taken to editing photos without bothering to let you decide how to prior to printing which makes it useless. There is an edit button once you've picked a photo to print but all that appears to do is show you how much it's cutting off for no obvious reason. Just print the picture. Don't crop it, don't resize it, just print. Until that's an option it's useless.
The option to Scan from the app disappeared right after the first scan I made after a firmware update from 1.15 to 1.17. "Scan" doesn't even show up as an optional icon under the Customize button. Very bizarre and annoying glitch. edit: Contacted support, you removed the feature with that update. The device must've informed the app after that first connection. The review remains until the button returns or you give me access to the old firmware
Why is it so difficult for a company to make a stable printer and app? Seriously, we've been printing as a species for decades, if not centuries! Modern wireless technology is abundant and well understood...yet these types of apps struggle to identify printers, allow easy access print settings/configurations, and make you jump through hoops to change anything and get a simple document printed. It's probably all related to advertising scams...but ffs, it used to be about the consumer. -_-
Haven't had a personal printer in a long time. Decided to pick one up to print some documents I needed and for future moments I'd need one. I am impressed with the simple and intuitive layout of the app which makes peinting directly from smartphone a breeze. Brothers has done a nice job from the printer itself to the app development. Great job all-around!
