the new update is terrible. the items available never load properly. the app itself crashes often and I have to hard close the app to get it working again, it only works 50% of the time. If I select an item to look at further I am unable to go back to the place I was in my search. I have to scroll back through to find my place and the item pictures then disappear. when that happens I also have to reload the app.

Just updated, still not working. When I try to login (tried both using Google account and email/pass) it kicks me back out or says account failed, or nothing happens at all. I enjoyed when it was working, so I hope the bugs can be fixed. It gives people the ability to gift what is still useful but we don't necessarily need anymore.

This is the worst app I have ever used. It forgets who I am and makes me login every time I use it. Scrolling through items is very laggy/jittery/slow and progressively gets worse as you scroll more. Titles and descriptions of items are cut off with ellipses (...) and there's no way to expand them to view the whole thing. There's no way to expand or zoom in to pictures. They make you pay just to bookmark posts for later, which is excessive. Often, you need to come back to a post later.

The new update is awful. My old email wasn't recognized so I needed to create a new account. looking through gifts, the page will randomly scroll back to beginning. After viewing an item and swiping back, it brings you back to the top of the page. Change can be good but this was NOT implemented well, especially when they ask you to subscribe the second you log in.

Cannot login, set up a profile or even reset password. it just keeps crashing anytime you try to create an account and says to keep tryinf whwn verification fails to sens whwn trying to reset the password you just created. I have a confirmation email but cannot even get logged in to use it. If I'm having this much trouble getting onto the app, I doubt it will be much better to use it.

I'm trying to reset my password and it only takes me to install it in another devices. I don't want that! I just want to reset the password. Updated review - Feb 2026 This app gets worse at every update they make. Now I can't read the messages while I'm typing on my phone! I need to keep hitting the back button to see where I am in my sentence! Also there's no way to zoom on the images of items posted.

I love giving in my neighborhood! The app reaches farther than the Facebook groups, which I prefer. However. The app glitches constantly. I have to login over and over. It does not save my pickup info even though I tick the box to save it every time. Sometimes it won't open, or things take forever to load. I love the BuyNothing community and the function of the app, but I really wish it were more reliable. My loyalty to the concept and lack of other options are what keep me using the app.

The app works very poorly. It often won't open, or asks me to log in again. However when I try to log in, it claims my ID and password are incorrect. And there's no option to contact anyone for help. I wish they had a desktop version (not one connected to FB) because I really dislike using this as an app. Also, it's actually hard to find people who want your items. I have not found one yet. It's much easier to give things away on Craigslist. I'm thinking about just deleting this app.

Not a great experience. I downloaded the app to see if my area has a BN group, but could not figure out how to search for that. It's very buggy especially upon creating an account, some dark patterns (like hiding the skip button on scroll when asking for money), and was getting results from places miles away in other cities. They also ask you for a lot of personal info when creating an account, which was unnecessary. I don't see myself using the app as it is, so I uninstalled.

Minutes go by and only the loading screen is up. I tried with data and wifi over a half hour, refreshing/restarting it, and only managed to get it up for maybe 3 minutes at the beginning before going to my profile and away from the feed. Love that you can adjust tthe radius around you, but, boy, I'm done with this. If the app team sees this, I'd love to troubleshoot, but I can't give stars if I've barely interacted with it.

The only good thing is its userbase. Lots of people use it, so you always find someone who will take your free stuff no matter what it is. Unfortunately, the app SUUUUUUCKS. If I get a message notification, clicking on it is useless: it takes me to the home page instead of the actual message. If I try to create a post and use the in-app picture taker, the app crashes (I have to take pics with the phone's camera app). There are many more bugs but I can only type 500 chars here.

It feels somewhat unfair to rate an app based on it's users (or lack thereof), but for an app all about community... It's sure lacking one. Maximum radius is only 20 miles so you can't raise it to find more people either. Looks like there's maybe one post a month, with no comments. local Facebook groups have tens of thousands of members.

Still has some bugs to work out. When posting a post, the screen just blurs out and there's no indication that it's working on uploading the post, like a loading circle icon. You just have to wait until the post goes through. I didn't know this and force closed the app the first time thinking it was just stuck. Also, when a post includes a pic, it uploads sideways for some reason.

I'm so sad this app doesn't work well, because it would have been great to see a non-facebook options. For one, there's no notifications when someone comments on your photo - which means communication is not successfully happening. Two, most of the time when I go on, I can only see my own photos on the home page, even when I got a notification that someone else posted! I'd love to see this working better, but until then, I think BN should put the list of Facebook groups back up on their website

Thrilled for a non-Facebook way to be a part of the BN community! But there are definitely improvements needed on the app. It's still clunky to use. I've never figured out how to add a photo to a post until after it's posted, when I can use "edit" & upload the photo. Just one example. But, I had great success with their tech support (via email) when I needed to change my login bc I deleted FB. I have hope the user experience will improve. 🤞🏽

The last couple of weeks I literally have not been able to get in to the app. I made an account and everything; however, in the beginning, the app had to log me in every time while I wanted for the login screen to just disappear. Well, now the login screen never disappears, so I need to log in ever single time, and when I press the button after entering my credentials, literally nothing happens. I'm slowly losing my mind.

Unfortunately, the app email login rarely works so I can't even get into the platform! I enter my email, password, and click the Log In button, and nothing happens. If I enter the wrong login information, it tells me the combination is invalid, so I know that's not the problem! I've had this happen several times, so usually end up in my local FB group instead of using the app. In my case, my BN FB group is way more active than the community in the app.

Thought it would make posting and checking easier, but setting prefs is very awkward--you have to either accept posts from outside your assigned area, or restrict it so much, it doesn't include the whole neighborhood. Kind of goes against the idea behind Buy Nothing. Also pushes in-app purchases and shipping--once again, against the whole concept.

I so want to love this, but it is super buggy. The log in process is flaky and so it frequently does not open. It closes abruptly when I am trying to make posts and so the work is lost. It over notifies the user (when it's working) and seems to ignore my request for it to limit notifications. It's improved over time so there is hope, but it is super buggy now.

Would be great if it actually worked. I love finding free stuff and have found amazing and useful things through this app. However, it logs me out randomly (even if I used it literally a few minutes ago) and then has a difficult time logging me back in. This is very stressful when I'm trying to get an address and am on a time limit. Plus, it didn't send notifs for DMs.
