This has a large selection of items but every time you click on a food, it brings up an ad. Irritating as hell! This is the android version; the iphone version let's you pay to eliminate ads. I had to find a separate ad blocker for $20 a year to stop the racket. Also, I tried scanning some bar codes and every time it came up that it wasn't in the program yet. The only category that shows up is alcohol. Might as well not bother saying there are categories. Easy to look up a single item's carbs.
I want to love this app so much. I've been using the Calorie King books ever since I was diagnosed in the 90s, but this app is just not where it needs to be. Perks are it's simple and streamlined, but needs a "meal calculator" that you can add individual items to get a total. I would gladly pay for premium features like no ads and a way to save meals. Calorie King has always been the most accurate nutrition log I've used, and while I'm excited for an app, I'm disappointed it's so barebones.
Type II Diabetic. App is great for tracking carbs in commercial foods, or calculating stuff I make myself. However, add another vote for release of an add free version for a reasonable upfront cost. The ads are annoying, don't apply to me, and as of late, won't even close. Edit: Aug 9, 2023: Removed a star, going from 4 to 3 because it frequently just stops working. When you try to search, you just get something about "Null Check Operator".
Some things only listed in oz, or in arbitrary amounts with weight in parentheses so you have to do more calculations. In order to get nutrition information on raw carrots, I can pick a few pre-existing carrot weights, or I can scroll down, pick "carrots" under Golden Corral (!) and suddenly I am allowed to enter grams of carrot freehand. Or ounces. Thanks, Golden Corral, but it's kind of a weird way to have to do it.
Please give us the option to pay a little bit to remove ads! I'd do it in a heartbeat! This app is wonderful otherwise, but the ads are really irritating when you have type 1 diabetes and have to add up all the carbs in your meal before you can eat it. I already have to spend several minutes a lot of the time just doing that, and the ads make it worse.
I really like the app, as I'm a type 1 diabetic.. a feature should be added, like a shopping cart type of thing. Say your eating a meal and would like to account for all total carbs with numerous items, it would be nice to find the food, and add it to a list that can accumulate all nutrients being eaten. Mainly for me, to have it add the carbs up and i just put one total in my insulin pump.
It's somewhat easy to use. However would be great if there were an ability to add carb counts from various meals especially frozen foods, canned goods etc. it does have a nice simplicity to it however that one other function, like I said, would be most helpful.
This is a great app but it could use some improvements. Like right now the app is not working AT ALL! I have a newly diagnosed Type 1 diabetic five year old so I live on this app lol! Also, if you had a "Favorites" type of thing, so you can have easy access to a list of things you kinda always eat, would be a great idea. Also if the app kepted a record for parents/people with certain medical issues that use this type of app for food that would great too👍
So disappointed. I used this app on my iPhone and it was great because you could add your meals and track daily calories. You could also create your own serving sizes etc. Can't do that on Android. Why other having two totally different apps for different operating systems????
Works great when it works. Search functionality is great. However the barcode scanner is downright broken. You have to delete letters individually in the search bar. But honestly, the worst problem is that theres no version without ads. Ads you cant skip. Nah. I'll pass for now.
I can't get the app to work. I love the website because you can choose a specific quantity instead of just the macros/calories of a serving size like most other calorie counter websites & apps & it has all the foods I eat. It's very accurate & convenient. I was super excited to find there's a calorie king app. Idk why it's not working. I'll try to delete then reinstall 🤷🏼♀️
I used Calorie King years ago and loved it. I don't know what happened when it changed it's look, maybe got bought out by someone. I just tried to download it and only had an search page - I couldn't see a log in, only search bars. Maybe I have to search for a food before being prompted to log in and add to my diary... but all I got was an ad in an Asian script and I didn't know how to exit as I couldn't understand. What happened to Calorie King?? Uninstalled straight away.
WHAT HAPPENED‽ It started out great. I could look up virtually all Australian foods and get their calories. Now, suddenly, NOTHING works. So I uninstalled the app, rebooted the phone and reinstalled it. Still does not load anything other than the main screen. Pity. I have uninstalled it permanently.
Love this App as I have an insulin pump which is driven by carb counting. Today is the first time I've had any issues. It's not searching. I get an error message "Failed to get categories. FoodApi Get Failed". Try Again. I've tried many times, uninstalled and reinstalled and still the same. Anyone else having issues?
This app has accurate information but does force you to watch an ad each time you try to view a new food item. There does not seem to be a way to avoid the annoying, time consuming advertisements. Nothing but a waste of my time in between the bits of useful information. Quite frustrating, in my opinion.
I've used calorie king for years back when it was just a tiny book. Downloaded the app at the recommendation of my Endo, and... It's missing foods? Doesn't even have the full menu for McDonald's, which feels like pretty basic info. Really disappointed.
CalorieKing used to be great for tracking the number of calories, fat, etc consumed each day but there's no option for tracking in this app. It's all purely nutrition info lookup with no option to track. Sad because I used to really like CalorieKing. I did give it 2 stars because it still can give you calorie & nutrition info....just not the daily tracking total I wanted.
I just downloaded the android version. I see within 1 minute its just a lookup version. You can enter measurements of volume and scan box barcodes also. I use the calorieking food & exercise journal booklet so this could be a good companion for that. Wish it would hold a favorite list with typical amounts used.
This app doesn't work anymore. Every time I type in the search bar, it says, "error". Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app, clearing cache, and rebooting my phone but it still doesn't work. Terrible app but it's awesome when it works.
Ok app. I wish it was more like the website because it gives you an idea of how much exercise you would need to do if you eat this. The app just gives you nutritional information nothing is set for a user or login. Uninstalling hoping they upgrade it.
