Camp Chef

Absolutely a nightmare to use. Constantly gets stuck and I need to exit the app and restart to be able to change temperature or smoke level. 1 time froze on a "set alert" screen which I also can not even access. Good thing I bought my woodwind pro for the smoke box and not the wifi. This is a joke. makes the thermometers pretty useless if the app is so buggy.

I'm in agreement with all of the low ratings for this app. Although I can connect to the grill, the app continously looses it's connection and I have to wrestle with it to reconnect. This happens even with an access point literally 10 feet away. This is a problem, particularly during overnight cooks when I want to check the progress without leaving the comfort of my bed. The grill is a solid performer, but the app is pretty much garbage.

App will not control the grill at all. You change the temperature or smoke settings in the app and confirm it, and it just keeps the same settings and doesn't change anything. If you want an app to monitor your cook, this works ok. But still is not as good as the Thermopro Temp spike which actually has features where you can set alerts for ambient temperature and food temperature alerts. This app has none of that. So basically the one thing the app actually does it kinda sucks at it.

I haven't had the connectivity issues that others have. It connects fine and is stable and reliable. I do have a WiFi router on the other side of the wall from the grill. The app is just clunky. Takes too many clicks to do things. I get a notification, but I can't click on it to take me to the app. So I open the app, and have to dive through menus to get to my active session. It would be great to have an active notification that showed the status of all the probes and takes you to your session.

Update 3/29/2024: I was able to connect to the smoker using an iPhone. I then updated the firmware and connected the device to wifi. I can now control the smoker with my android device. This is not ideal! Not much to say besides the app does not work. I tried to connect to the device using Bluetooth and I get a bond failed error. I am not Even able to input a pin. I am currently talking to customer support so hopefully they can help resolve the issue. He might have better luck on a iPhone.

Nice grill, terrible app. The app loses connection constantly and even when it is connected it doesn't work. The temp freezes, you can't change smoke or temp, the temp graphs for probes don't work. Overall, the app is worthless because it either isn't working or gives bad info. I've had my grill for over 4 years and, while it is a good grill, if I was buying today it wouldn't be Camp Chef. App is an important part of operation, and it doesn't work and they don't seem to interested in fixing it.

I have an Android 10 device the when I open the app it states that "several" android 10 devices are not compatible with the older firmware and that I should use another device to update the firmware. Great. My wife and I have the same phones so no help there. We have a house full of tablets and older phones but the app is not supported on any of them either because of the device or because anything prior to android 10 does not seem to be supported. This is a giant fail camp chef.

This is the worst app I have ever used! It is extremely frustrating to not be able to use the full features of the smoker as the app constantly shows unknown errors. You cant change the password, log in or access the app without the app freezing. You cant successfully execute updates using apple or android. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app multiple times with no good results. Great smoker WORST APP EVER!!! If I could give this app a zero rating I certainly would. Not ready for market!

One of the worst apps. Every other time I go to use the grill, I have to re-pair. Happened just now. That's bad enough but the re-pairing process is unlike anything else. Cumbersome. Then during the cook the connection fails. This has happened on several phones and tablets. Even with a new WIFI router and closer to the grill.

Horrible app. WoFi doesn't work properly. Bluetooth doesn't either. No way to set temps for various things either even though it looks like you can . It, "works," every so often but normally does not. Most of the time it won't connect, when it does, it you can get info on what's happening on the grill but not much else.

The privacy policy is horrible. The app, which never consistently connected to the smoker, is really a data collection tool for marketing information. Seriously, read the privacy policy. I set up an account for the earlier app version but, the latest update wanted me to set up another account and accept more egregious data sharing policies. The remote monitoring would have been a nice feature but at least the grill works well without the app.

The app no longer sends notifications. Last year it would barely connect to the smoker. It prompted me to perform an update several hours into a cook, and wouldn't allow me to monitor the temperature from my phone unless I restarted the smoker. Camp Chef really needs to figure this out. It always seems like zero steps forward, two steps back.

Constantly has trouble connecting. Once connected it will drop connection if you use another app, aren't actively on your phone, etc. Then the process starts over. The whole reason to pay extra for a WiFi model is to be able to control and monitor things from the app! I've had mine for 2 years now and it's been nothing but terrible. Customer support is no help because it's just bad design. Was a big camp chef fan and recommended to everyone, now I will never buy another thing from this brand.

We don't know what some people are talking about in their criticisms. Even though our expectations were lowered by the low reviews, we are delighted with this app! It let's us know when a set temp. has been reached, shows internal and 2 probe temperatures and has a lot of presets that make everything a snap to set up. We didn't expect it to wash the dishes, so are very pleased.

Doesn't work. Not much else to say. I've tried every solution I can find. It won't connect to wifi. Not sure if it is the app or the controller, but regardless, it doesn't work. I bought Camp Chef because, in my opinion, the grill was better than most (and far better value). Take some of the large chunk of $ we spend on grills and invest in system development. I'm not happy!

New version update worked so well I can no longer connect to my grill at all. It's completely undetectable. Reset the grill controller, and app still doesn't see it. Exactly what everyone else is saying since the "overhaul". Camp Chef needs to fire their entire product and engineering teams because they've consistently delivered a subpar user experience. Next time I'm buying a traeger because they actually know how to deliver a product to their customers.

Wifi never works correctly. After spending an hour doing multiple updates, the grill won't stay connected. It connects and opens in the app before startup. I start the grill, and within 20 minutes the app disconnects. I try to reconnect but the app says it can't when the grill is running. It's absolutely impossible to make it work correctly. Total waste of money to buy the grill expecting it to work as advertised. I've tried both android and apple and both have the same problem.

Used to work perfectly after they did a big update on the app. And now suddenly I get no notifications and the app doesn't show up in the list for apps notifications to turn it on... So it doesn't do the primary thing I want it to do, alert me. Update: my actual problem became that my temperature would read an astronomically high 2573 and although I could usually see the probes, I could make no adjustments. Ses they just made an update to address this a few days ago. let's see..

Setup is pretty terrible. Every step is between 30 seconds and 3 minutes. Multiple crashes and won't accept correct wifi password. Haven't even got to try the app out after 20 minutes of trying. **Edit** Updating after 1-2 years of use. App is decent. Still has some bugs, but my biggest request for change would be to make the temps on the graph easier to read. 50° intervals is far too large, making it hard to decipher.

Previous version constantly dropped bluetooth or made me log in with each use. Latest update will not even connect to wifi and keeps crashing. Been several days with no fix. The grill is fine, but I paid extra for the app connectivity, which is absolutely abysmal. This needs to be fixed. I like the grill but my next one will not be from this brand.
