Good app. EDIT: recently started displaying adverts on top of the map whilst trying to find locations. Cheapens the whole experience IMO. There are other apps out there that do the same job, if not better, that don't have these annoying ad overlays. I'd rather pay a couple of dollars for the app than put up with ads. Its a shame because this was once my goto travel app.
Quite informative and convenient, could use a little update though. Not all places bookable via app. Some places were closed but still showed up. When typing in a place, exact location didn't appear, still had to navigate manually. Booked 3 stays along Haast - Hokitika. En route to Haast, hotel messaged us the only road was closed because of slips. Had to detour around the other side of the island because of flight schedule. Cancelled, didn't get any refund.
Interface poor if not in NZ or Oz. I am planning my holiday while in the UK. Every time I open the app it shows my location in the UK. I then have to zoom out the map, scroll to NZ then zoom back in. Why can't I go back to where I left off more quickly, perhaps set a start location. And what about a list of campsites I have already marked as favorites. Please.
One of the most helpful apps I've had. I'd give it 5 stars if there would be a setting to customize the order of the the things I'm looking for. Eg. to have "Campgrounds for self-contained", "Public Toilets", "Public Showers", "Water", and "Dump Stations" appear at the top for me. I and many fellow travelers hardly ever look for anything other than those and the order they appear in seems to be fairly random, I always have to search for them.
This App is simply amazing. There wasn't anything I wanted to know that it didn't have. This App is a must have for Camping in New Zealand. It had more information than I could have prepared for. The features are more than just camp sites. It's used to find dump stations, clean water, shower locations, bins, day time parking, supermarket and so much more. The camp sites are colour coded by price and reviewed by others so no surprises Download the offline version and you are ready 4 NZ
Great app but data hungry. I have offline maps downloaded and have not used the app a great deal but in the past few days it has used around 3gb of data, which is far more than I'd expect for just searching a few campgrounds and public toilet sites each day. Not quite sure why the app is so thirsty for data but at that rate it is unusable as I will rip through my monthly allowance in no time. I've just updated (over WiFi) to the latest version, hopefully this problem doesn't continue.
The app is very data hungry. I ran some tests and found the developers of this app are collecting a lot of personal data. The app does not inform customers about who they are sharing this data with. It was a good app when there were not many alternatives but between the hidden data collection and plenty of alternatives with better info available elsewhere I'd choose the other apps. The app is clunky and hard to filter on as well.
This app was recommended to me in a backpackers and I'm so glad! Not only does it tell you the locations of camps but also points of interest, public toilets, atms, petrol stations... I've used it for so much around both NZ and Aus and it's helped me to get out of some tight spots as well as pointed me in the direction of things I didn't know were there. It constantly updates with discounted campsites and activities too. It's great!

I suggest you roll back display mods as app fails to function on an android now? Just get the front page and no other function, tapped everywhere and nothing. This is disappointing... After walking away from the phone for 10 minutes app had finally opened. Let's see how it goes now. Watch this space. Oh dear, it doesn't seem to have a trip planner...hmmm Got another star for opening, eventually.
Been camping around NZ pretty much my whole life and I can't speak for the Australian side but I'm honestly pretty pissed that I'm only finding out about this app now. Already saved my ass trying to find a campsite in the Northern Hokianga, an area I've travelled through a good four or five times, and I've been using it for all of twenty minutes. Only way it could be better is if it was integrated with the DoC campsites and hiking trails database.
Have been using app for a few years now. Love that it is free. Easy to use. Unfortunately I have been finding a number of free and low cost camp areas in the NT which are not on Campermate. No big deal as it is easy to submit and always approved as long as you can provide an email address and contact phone number for the camp site.
This app is astonishingly amazing. It is free but if this cost £3 it would still be a bargain. Navigation is easy, filters are understandable I have used this on a road trip in NZ and now Australia, it has yet to set me wrong I am so glad this app was here and is free.
Useful app ....when it works. Uses a lot of data and also battery as it's unstable. Often refuses to open... just get a black page so you have to keep closing and reopening. Always check comments. If there's no recent ones check campsite still exists and prices are valid. Especially in the South Island.
The app is data hungry because it collects data with every step you take. Earlier, it used to be anonymous atleast but now they are forcing you to create an account so the anonymity is also gone. Remember that when it's free you are the product. The app is also full of annoying icons which never respond correctly to the icon you tap.
Amazing app, BUT please!! Set the filters properly to not just hide the unwanted icons. They are still clickable, and if I tap on the spot where and, for example, an activity is, it always selects something else close to that spot. This bug is really annoying, and as an IT person, I do not see a reason why filters should work this way
Easy to use, with lots of info and the ability to add more... When it is working. Unfortunately, more often than not, the app crashes before it can even open and the offline maps function has never worked for me, despite using lots of data to "download" them.
Great work with the new update. I'm just about to leave on trip so i updated the app and the map. Now its not working, it does not show anything in australia in offline mode. But somehow NZ offline maps works fine, even though i didn't even download that for offline. Update: after i downloaded the NZ offline maps, the AU offline maps worked fine. So I just have both on my phone at the moment, this way it seems to be working.
What happened with the basic camping app, (for example from 2019), the app is nearly 100mb in download size and unfortunately an advertisement popped up the first time I started campermate, why are the developers keep adding more and more add-ons and try and mention to us the ads have to be implemented to try to keep the app free when it's all the useless items included which is the reason why.
Campermate Australia has been fantastic and my Go To app for finding camp sites on our adventures. Unfortunately I did an update and it's now stopped working and crashes at the opening screen. Reinstalling has not helped. Very disappointed, and I'm back to using Camps Australia Wide and WikiCamps. Update: CamperMate Australia has fixed the issue, and I am back using my favourite travel app. Thanks.
So far , so good. Its is very helpful than google search. Lol just straight to the point. We had did some booking through here and is helpful when you have a large group to organize your trip. Plus the helpful hints of places, tracks, scenery. I just love it all together to be honest. Thank you to the team who have put this together to make the trip in New Zealand worth wild. Highly recommend this app to any one who wants to explore New Zealand. 😁
