Very hard to register with this app. It's OCR system has the hardest time reading the card details. And even on the rare chance that it did, it failed to register in the end stating that the app is unable to register at the moment. EDIT: I did create a support ticket and yes the registration error did get fixed. But the issue with OCR still persists. It's inconsistent. Genuinely an alternative to OCR would be ideal. Increasing rating to 3, would review again after using the app for a while.
Great way to start exploring venues that have high fees and otherwise I wouldn't have visited. It takes time to figure out how to use the app and the discounts but in general, I'm satisfied with it.
Absolute Engineering Failure. The fact that this app demands my PR/Citizenship card after every single update is pathetic. If your developers can’t maintain a basic "verified" status in a database, they are in the wrong profession. It’s a disgrace to software engineering, a security risk, and a total waste of user time. Fix this amateurish loop or hire people who actually know how to code.
The biggest problem with this app is that the menu pixels doesn't align with Android phones. otherwise, it works well.
After reading the other reviews, I see I'm not alone in finding this app disappointing. The scanning was not a problem, but now that I activated the canoo access, the map screen is just frustrating. The icons blink rapidly and you have to click multiple times to see select a venue on the map. The promotions (ads) for Disney Plus CIBC cards work perfectly! No free lunch when you realize this app likely gathers data on us new citizens for marketers.
Update: The team got back to me with a key element. *Wait a few mins between signing in and clicking the link the app send to your email*. Still a bit tricky but a lot more successful. The team was very helpful. Excited To try it =The app couldn't scan my certificate so didn't even let me sign up. After multiple tries in multipal lighting and locations I gave up. It seems there is only a team of 2 people working on this. So I sympathize but the app is frustrating and disappointing=
I don't have much trouble scanning or registering for the app, it just worked as other phone-scan apps you might need to try one or two more times to go through. The customer service was very supportive and helpful after I accidentally deleted my account. The deals in the app were very nice as I got one year free one-year membership for HotDocs and TIFF and VIFF as a film fan. I hope they can offer more free memberships of major galleries and museums in the future as well.
Great idea, great concept but poor execution makes it useless at least for me. App not user friendly, hard to filter deals that interest you. The app has bugs, like scanning your citizenship certificate. The discounts only apply when purchasing tickets on site, no advance booking possible which is very limiting during busy times. Support staff is responsive and helpful but there's no way to contact them through the app. I had to go back to the app store to find an email address.
app crashes on Android on sign up when analyzing barcode scan. useless and discriminatory for iPhone users only. Reading the reviews here, I'm not the only one... why not allow for manual typing of the scanned information?! Keep it simple! People who have gone through all the trouble of permanent resident and citizenship know how to fill out forms and certainly don't need another obstacle. Very frustrating! Celebration will have to wait. Again.
Very handy! Before this app was released, I had a hard time printing out a hard card at numbers of libraries. This app was easy to install. Nowadays, I'm with my phone all the time, I can play tourist whenever I am free wherever I go without making sure of having the card. Another feature I like about is its searching feature that tells me what I can find nearby. Great job!
It does not scan the certificate. I'd give zero stars if possible. We got citizenship electronic certificates. It does not make sense that you get a pdf file, and there is no way to upload it, we did not get a paper certificate from CCIRC. We had to print them out, we paid for professional printing in good paper, but still, the app does not scan, and there is no option to input the information in any other way. Had set up a tripod and extra lighting, but nothing works.
Unlike some comments I read, it works really well for me. The process to sign up was easy. The only downside is that when visiting places, clerks are not always aware of how to use the app. But it is not related to the app itself! In case it can help someone: clerks give a code (specific to the venue) that needs to be entered in the app.
Many of the buttons and links in the app do not work even in the latest version. The latest one is the "Cirque Du Soleil" email offer where clicking the deal link didn't work. It just shows a blank page. Tried exiting the app, updating it, signing out and back in, etc. Similarly, various buttons inside the app in the offer-specific pages do not work.
After an initial hiccup the remarkable support team led by Andrew sprung into action and within days the issues with registration related to info capture were fixed. The registration was a breeze and now I am looking forward to utilizing the app frequently
Awful Scanning simply does not work. Why must the document be scanned? Why can't the information be entered manually, or the bar code of the citizenship certificate be scanned. There are obvious problems with this app. It's false to advertise free admission to numerous attractions and then not even be able to scan a simple document to have access to them. Replying on every review to submit a ticket is NOT a solution.
i tried to register, it always shows, we are sorry, we are unable to complete your canoo registration at this time.
The app cannot scan the card although the picture is clear! It keeps scanning, I tried multiple times took around 1 hour and it did not go through!! Updated: I explored a lot and noticed it is a systematic problem with Samsung S21, eventually I could scan it easily with another android phone. Since this is a common problem and led to most of low reviews for the app, as a developer I would try to find the source of the problem, reproduce the issue, and develope a systematic solution around it.
App crashes when scanning certificate. Having the latest version of Android sometimes requires the latest phone out there. Not everyone can afford it. Some retro-compatibility could have been added specially when the app is marked as compatible with those versions. Personally I have Android 7 which is only 3 years old and I can't afford a new phone every year.
It looks useless in Manitoba. Just several museums to explore (which we already visited) and no parks registered. I called to Birds Hill park to enquire if they use it and they havent even heard about Canoo. Didn't find Whiteshell park on the list. And many many more. Also me and my husband don't have data on phones (waste of money during quarantine as we mostly stay at home) and you need data to use app at the venue.
Well, we have already lost a week of our citizenship, our trip plans changed and I did not even get a response to my ticket that documents cannot be scanned. As of now: completely useless application and terrible support. UPDATE: for those like us: try phones of your friends and friends of friends. After trying 5 different phones we were able to scan on 6th (samsung galaxy s10+) and after registering an account, you can log in and use it on your phone. Support is not that terrible after all, they don't help but at least respond. Increasing review to 2 stars.
