Canopy - Parental Control App

This app isn't reliable when it truly counts! 😤 It started strong, but then stopped responding on the target phone, letting things slip through. I updated the app updated the phone and still saw no difference. I felt so relaxed and confident, thinking it was doing its job. Also, be aware that some vpn browser apps can get through this app due to their design. The platform is a bit cluttered but ok once you get used to it. I still have not figured out how to track daily activities.

Used the PC and Mac versions for a few months. Blocked things well. Main issue is the throttling of my internet speed. Without the app, I get 96MBps. With, I get 2MBps. Things became unusable. I tried every setting and configuration I could find on their website and the Internet, but no dice. Have now switched to a DNS blocker + Cold Turkey.

Compared to a lot of other filtering software out there that I've tried, this one has way better results. It is fairly speedy, yet I've noticed sometimes does slow down the device, mildly. It doesn't share unnecessarily imagery (blurred-out) w/ the accountability partner/manager. Canopy offers a ton of options and controls that other filtering software companies do not. Also, their phone support is really pretty good - just need to be a bit flexible with the time difference (12p-8p).

Loved the security, app worked very well, but slowed my phone down. I'm a very technical person, and use Google home a lot, and other smart home apps. I could not stream my phone screen to my TV, other apps stated I had no internet connection. At other times, I would have games not load (Monopoly Go), but once I got off WiFi, the game would load no problem. Setup for Canopy was very easy, and I had no problems. It did a phenomenal job of blocking the removal of the app unless it was the admin.

This does a good job filtering. The tracking does not work all that well as it is often delayed or doesn't work for hours/days and teens can turn off this feature from their phone. I really wish the tracking worked better. They also changed something and you can no longer click on the map to see the full area. It would also be nice to have a report on website sites visited and searches done.

It does block the bad stuff, so that's good. Unfortunately, its a battery drainer. And even moreso, when you want them to delete your account, they make you jump through unnecessary hoops. It should as simple as 3 button clicks. But because it isn't, It makes me trust this company less, and I ended up not subscribing beyond their trial period.

App can be better. Missing log out button which is needed to keep anyone from accessing the app on my phone. Tried deleting and reinstalling the app, but it automatically logs on each time. No option to log out. Edit: still not fixed. App has a bug that will automatically log you in no matter how many times you log out. It us useless if you downloaded the parent app by accident on the protected device. All one has to do is re-download it and it skips the sign in. Not sure why they won't fix it

Horrible app. Set up was time consuming and kept glitching. That should of been my warning. The moment we got the app it didn't work. Yes it filters searches. But that's it. The location doesn't work. Monitoring apps and the usage never connects. It was blocking news stories that had nothing to do with nudity. Don't waste your time or money.

DO NOT INSTALL, this app will charge you immediately the annual plan after selecting the free trial. If you had this issue, claim a refund through google play, I even talked to them and they "didnt know" what was happening. Also, the app doesnt work, it makes your pc and phone slow and it has glitches like not being able to visit any website, I couldnt search anything on my phone. It was also a pain to install it on the phone. Sadly I cannot give 0 stars. Such a waste of time

The app didn't work well as the daily screen report never would refresh and seldom gave daily results. The location map sometimes worked, but not like it should have! My son also uninstalled the app when you were not supposed to be able to do that. The customer service was terrible! I could not get anyone to call me back. I only talked to an actual person 1 time and never got my issue resolved. After 3-4 emails and voicemails that were not returned, I canceled our subscription.

If you are looking to protect your kids from terrible websites or control the types of games they can use on their phones, this is the app for you! It works so well! Make sure you follow their instructions to make it so your saavy kids can't uninstall it. The only reason I didn't give this 5 stars is that it completely restricts Insta, & that's a struggle with my kids. If they could figure out how to disrupt the bad & keep the decent stuff the kids are looking at, I'd be giving the app 5 stars.

Its not the best but it's also not the worst I have tried. It should definitely tell you the you pay the full amount of the subscription in 1 payment not monthly which in my opinion would be better. I also have had problems with it not unlocking right away when I tell it to. I also think it would be better if it would give you the location for all day instead of just at that moment.

Overall, Canopy has helped me manage my three kids' cell phones. I like that you can set up downtime but wish I could pause them. If you want to temporarily change a downtime, you have to delete what is already there and then remember to go back and change them back. Customer service has been quick and helpful when I have had to contact. I definitely think there could be some changes made to be even better but I have used a few parental control apps & this one is the only one I have stuck with

updated 2/25/26 deleting app. Gave it 10mths. Its stopped my hubs phone from updating. We thought the phone was broken until we turned off the app. We can't send pic messages in FB unless it's off. Several apps dont work. Had to take it off my phone because I couldn't access my autheticare clock in app for work. It barely blocks what you want but it definitely turns out phones into expensive bricks. Never worked with VPN that is soo poorly designed and blocks so many features!

Great experience with canopy so far, but unfortunately it doesn't play well with some apps for iOS on iphone 14 plus. For example, Canopy will not allow the "Carry Bible Study Groups" app to display the discussion boards. Essentially the Carry app crashes when you click on the discussions tab. This is true even when the canopy app filter settings is set to either "unfiltered" or "allowed". So far, I have not found a work around for using the "Carry Bible Study Groups" app with canopy enabled.

I'm really happy with the protection it provides as far as blocking inappropriate content. The GPS tracker could us some work tho. It's not always accurate and it doesn't follow in real time. If I check where he is, it'll show me where the last "ping" was and it won't refresh for a while. I wish I could reglfresh it shows me where he is that at exact moment.

Problems with gliching after install which customer service helped me through. Worked great until I was charged twice for yearly subscription when I signed up for monthly. Haven't heard back after multiple attempts to contact them. I ended up calling my bank to help with these charges since canopy didn't seem to want to correct this. I'm not very happy with the app at all when it comes to messing with my money.

If I'm going to be honest, this app is the bane of my existence. It bugs out if you so much as TOUCH the settings, making random pop-ups, which don't do anything, but tend to be annoying after the tenth time. For some reason it block YouTube, which I guess is reasonable. But what isn't reasonable is directing me to the app whenever a notification pops up for it, and then continues to make my phone unusable unless I open up a different app, JUST to close YouTube. I could go on and on...

Waiting for 3 days for help after calling their customse service . I'm paid in full; I'm getting a message that my subscription has expired. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with their help line trying to resolve the problem. Total wast of time trying to get customer service. They've escalated this to the next Level. Can I get my $8.00 and move on? Good grief. I work for major luxury car company; I could have bought someone's car back in less time this is taking. No help if you have issues !

I do not recommend if you have an apple product. For 2 days now we have been fighting between apple (itunes) and canopy setup. We will not be buying the yearly subscription. Our computer setup was maybe 3 min. Its also annoying that you need to set the parameters for each device. They don't have a one stop choosing for all of them.
