The app itself runs well, and matches frequently with other players. However it has an infuriating tendency to mismatch players based on skill level. the algorithm will consistently cause players to win for 5+, followed by a losing streak for 9+ games over and over. And I've personally noticed that if you stop playing for a few days, you suddenly find yourself on a win streak next time you play. This gets insanely frustrating to the point where it's just not worth the effort.
This app is pretty educational and entertaining. Not a ton of annoying ads or anything, though I do wish they'd allow for more free game reviewing. I can understand keeping the videos behind a pay-wall, but the stats too? ...It's giving greedy, girl, idk... Biblical greed aside though, I've been enjoying my experience thus far. Easy sign-up too, so you can quickly add your friends for matches.
App works well, but they keep removing useful features and settings. The most recent iteration of this included, among other things, suddenly making "Show move feedback" a premium feature that you now have to pay real money for. I literally just want to learn to play chess, not get some monthly subscription. Edit to reply: Move feedback was available for free in games against the computer / bot matches for years. It is now unavailable without a premium subscription.
Only one free review per day is too few. The base membership is already expensive and does not offer unlimited reviews. Honestly, just add reviews to the base price and at least let us access them free after an ad, and this goes up to 4 stars minimum. I like the style of the UI, but it frequently gliches out, with all icons and text shrinking too small to be functional. Fixing that would add an extra star as well.
Has most of the features I look for in a chess app: active playerbase, review tools, useful game features. My main gripe is the recent change to notifications in correspondence games: instead of algebraic notation it only says what piece is moved. I used to be able to think out moves and lines without needing to look at the board, but this is no longer possible. I'd like this to be reverted or to have it as an option.
Amazing, first of all, you don't have to play in real life, so you can play friends and family far away. Also, you can customize your pieces and boards the way you want them, and there's so much customization for everything! Lastly, the membership. It's amazing, and when there's a huge sale, you can get diamond for only 50 dollars or some thing a year, and the membership is great because of playing with coach, unlimited everything, but the free versions also just as fun!
I don't pay for premium. I can do only 3 puzzles a day. They prioritize the game-review button (the New Game option is in a submenu) but it just routes you into a upgrade workflow. The worst feature for me is the abandonment trigger. I play a lot on my mobile phone-I like to watch a video/text while awaiting my opponent's move. If I'm on another app for even 15 seconds, the app will forfeit me for abandonment but I'll have to sit for a 5min countdown for my opponent's before they "abandon"
What happened to game reviews?! The new version is awful. Absolutely horrible experience, and it's so jarring to use it now. Wish I could install the old version. Smh. Puzzles are also still really buggy and often freeze (every 3-4 puzzles). I do puzzles way more than games, so it's a huge issue for me. Paying 120/yr, I expected better. I cancelled premium and wow, the experience is absolutely awful as a free user. Goodbye. Going back to ad-free Lichess now.
Easily the premier way to play chess online, and the mobile version is no different. Smooth controls, tons of gamemodes, support for the biggest events and players, it has it all. The premium version is not fully necessary but it feels worth the price. No matter the level, this is the place to play chess.
Great for learning but when playing bots it would better (in my opinion) if you could do take back on the last move rather than it ending the game completely so you can learn from your mistake and replay it so you can try a different move, I'm very new to chess and often end in a draw or get check mated without seeing it coming and although you can review the game and see where you went wrong I think it would help me at least to be able to take back the game ending move and continue.
I am on an Android phone playing chess for fun a lot, and It's great with only a few problems. First, I can't play all the variants (only Chess960), meaning I can't get that many achievements. Second is overall lagginess, but that might be just my phone.
great app. I just hate the change they made that makes that awful annoying sound when the king is in check and you touch any other piece. I like having sounds enabled in the game but not that annoying fart sound with the king in check. please let us disable that. just a flashing red square is enough of a reminder for me.
Anything I like other than gym it's chess. awesome app. my previous review accidentally got deleted but that didn't stop me from writing it again. it has courses, it provides you with the option to analyse your games, it's awesome. I'm a near 1000 elo player now before when I wrote the review I was around 400. I've also recommended it to one of my friends. and we've also played it together totally recommended!!!!
if you're into chess then this is the perfect game for you, I've been playing it since 2023 but started being consistent mid 2025. Now I'm playing games every single day, learning tactics, solving puzzles and just trying to get better. the only thing that might annoy you is that you need to make a subscription to be able to access some stuff. for example, you can't take more than 3 puzzles per day if you're not subscribed and also other stuff. you can also review Ur game... (can't write anymore)
Really cool app. Would love if they included more puzzles about winning material, promoting pawns or improving positions. Most puzzles are for checkmate and some patterns are too repetitive. I get the idea of learning through repetition but it seems pointless at some point. Also, some puzzles feel too easy for the level they are presented at while others are significantly harder.
I like the style and the daily puzzles and review. Also, my true rating is actually 4 stars. The reason I put 4 stars instead of 5 was because of Premium. The thing I don't like is that Premium is like a chunk of gold being right in your face but you can't grab it. It's the same with a lot of different apps too! And in my opinion, it's getting quite annoying. (But this still is one of the best apps i've donlowded) - Sincerely, Roman. A ten year old :)
This app is bad. When I claw my way out of the 300s to the 400s, I stumble down to 300 and coming close to 200, this app desperately needs a way for players for players to gain back elo after 10 consecutive losses because of cheaters. Edit: another complaint is that when I try to screen record the board, the footage turns black when the game starts, I just want to screen record it for content, this is bogus
The app is very buggy. Not user friendly with regards to options, settings, etc. Gameplay is good, but the app is not intuitive. Very hard to find options and some specific settings. At the moment I am stuck with everything in oversized mode with no way to fix it or contact support. I pay subscription. Not happy.
Best game ever love it no REAL ADS just get to the game in a single second or less. keep the good work going. quick question where you can make the custom thing for friend matches and more features to it like, one you can use other pieces in matches if they agree to but not queen right of the bat then that would be imposible. also, can you make a new gamemode that YOU and by you i mean the people playings own design? keep the good work going😊😊
Been a big fan of the app for a long time but I absolutely LOVE this new tie-in with Yoko Ono! I think she's a cool artist already, and the Play It By Trust idea is very fun, and mildly challenging in exciting ways. I love her little commentary on it, too, about her intentions on the piece. "I picked made the pieces all white because you could make them all colors more easily in your mind," she says. I'll unfortunately never get to hang with her, so this is the next best thing!
