Yesterday I would have said this app deserves a 10. Today it sucks! You used to be able to get a lot of short courses for free, and I was learning a few, then I open it up to practice and suddenly the courses I have been working on are pro-exclusive. I get that they need to make money, but I can't pay for pro and I can't buy the big courses. Those short free ones were awesome! I put hours into them. Now, I'm probably gonna delete my account and stop recommending chessable to people.

You can spend $100 on a video course, and still have to pay a monthly subscription fee to cache your video for online viewing. There's also no way to jump to the video timestamp for a variation. Rating the app as a companion to the two courses I splurged and purchased the video for, I have to rate 1 star. Given that those video purchases were so expensive I think it's fair to ask to view them offline without an additional subscription.

Pretty sure I just lost my streak after updating the app. I wish there was a way to review a random set of variations whenever I wanted. I also don't like landing in the middle of a variation when reviewing... I'd rather play the line from the start. I bought a subscription but the app just hung...only saw the spinner. Now after restarting the app, it's not seeing my subscription. If I try to buy the subscription again, it gives an error.

Courses are nice, but the entirety of the app has turned into a greedy cash-grab in recent times. You need a pro membership for every useful course on the app, and the only courses that are free are pretty much courses that teach you the rules of the game and/or teach how to develop your pieces in the opening. You are not even able to learn specific openings like you used to be able to. The app is only worth getting if you are new to chess and want to get a grasp on the basic ideas.

It is incredibly frustrating that there's no way to access the analysis board for positions in the app. If you're doing a tactics course for example, sometimes you will make the wrong move and the author won't explain why your move is wrong. Using the engine to check the move is a natural step and one that is available on the website but inexplicably not in the app. Huge miss and something people have been asking for on the forums for FIVE YEARS.

edit: seems to be fixed with a recent update. now the app is great, functions as intended and is less confusing than using a browser on mobile. Love the website, app just gives a blank white screen. Tried clearing cache and data, reinstalling, can't get the app to work. Android 14 on s22+

The mobile app on Android keep crashing and crashing... I was trying to get as many PRO lessons before my (gifted) premium expires. I don't have much time left, and I still need to claim a lot of PRO courses. It would be nice if I can see if I've already claimed a course instead og clicking on the picture in order to see if the course is claimed or not (in both cases, the button looks the same, orange with white letters, not very distinctive, especially when you're doing it in the bus...

The app is great but I do have a problem with the text font size. it is so small I can't even come close to reading it without manually zooming in for each step. Would really appreciate it if the text window would be finite on the axis and the text to fill in all the blank real estate below

I enjoy chessable and use it daily. However the app is really frustrating to use. It crashs sometimes but the main issue is how slowly the moves are played regardless of the settings. Also some existing features are still missing. After more than 3 years on chessable I'm reaching a point where I dodge the application as much as possible to favour browser usage.

Update- just to suggest the app be sold to another company that cares about the connection issues. Apparently, the devs don't read the feedback. They just send a response. In addition to the VPN problem, the app doesn't load well at all. 10 attempts in a row....Doesn't work with VPN either. Just uploaded the app so it is up to date. The website doesn't work with a VPN either. Everything works when the VPN is off. Seems like a great idea wrapped in a bad app.

Not only is there a subscription, but then every decent course thats not for complete beginners is hundreds of dollars, you would have to spend tens of thousands of dollars to actually make full use of this app. If you were born extremely rich and have globs of money to throw around then you may like the app, but if your just a working person, they did not make this app for you.

If you click "manage subscription" you end up on an external site with an ai chat bot instead of an in-app menu where you can actually see and manage the subscription. That is something that makes me wanna get rid of my subscription ASAP.

Course filters desperately need a language filter to get rid of the clutter of courses you can't understand. But more importantly, not obvious until you try the tutorial that this app is unsuitable for ultra-beginners. Either that or their UX/onboarding needs lots of work. Update: the instructions are in an email instead of the app. 🙃

crashing all the time. possibly good but if you can't study for even 2 minutes without a crash it's worthless. I downloaded the newest version and reset everything and the android version is also the newest no change.

I'd like to study on my tablet, the text is so tiny though, that makes the reading not enjoyable. Besides, the buttons overlap on the text. There is definitely a lot to improve to give a better user experience

Very helpful in learning openings and tactics. The review aspect has been pretty great thus far. If you stay consistent you will become a lot better. The free courses also seem pretty solid so far. So far no major notable issues.

Great content and concept, but the execution of the platform is lacking. The app is lacking many of the features that the Web app has, like being able to adjust certain course settings. The UI has many implementation issues, like sluggish load times and navigation bugs, as well as design issues. Who thought it was a good idea to return to the course dashboard when navigating back, instead of going to the course chapter list? They seem to be the only platform of its kind, but I want to switch.

URGENT: Please add customized player playback speeds from 1.25x to 4x like YouTube Premium app feature offers. Faster playback speed is a standard feature in every video course app (or audible audiobooks). 4x playback speed will allow me to review a 24 hour video course I purchase from you in 6 hours and save 18 hours of life not glued to a screen. NO ONE wants to watch a 24 hour video course for 24 hours at 1x speed. Please add this feature before my 7 day trial ends or I won't subscribe.

The app is worse than the website in every aspect. Can't search opening trees, the move trainer is less responsive, the store page has weird bugs such as the search bar not showing text when you try to type. This is a seriously half finished application and needs to be worked on more. It's so much less usable than the website that I literally open chessable in my browser instead of using the app.

The performance on downloaded courses without cell signal is horrid and renders the feature functionally useless on my device. This should be trivially easy to implement correctly. The fact that it doesnt work shows a lack of care and competence. A shame because chessable as an excellent library of material
