Hard to use, terrible UI. Extremely hard to sign in, and it logs you out randomly so you don't get notifications. News list always defaults to "most important" and wont stay as "most recent". "Click here to proceed" link in Events and payments doesn't work, so you have to go digging around the terrible UI to figure out what you are meant to proceed to. But why would the dev care - the school already paid them for this, so why would they try and make it better?
Overall works fairly well on an older Android phone. Handy to keep up to date, check and add attendance, give consent for events or payments so very good overall. However, it lost a star for some annoying persistent issues though, which are: 1. Never seemed to get the password issue resolved/set (it can't seem to remember password change) have to one code access each time 2. The app closes immediately when trying to access attachments. It works on a PC browser though so there is a work around
Very frustrating to use. I have my laptop open & connected to a screen so cannot mark the roll on it due to the need for cofidentiality, so must use the app. However most times I log in, it takes me to the daily updates page, with ZERO way to get to the roll. I must sign out and sign back in again (in front of a class of impatient students) & most of the time the roll appears. Student photos are often mixed up, leading to embarrassing mix-ups more than once. Have to log in every time - why!?
The most frustrating thing for a parent is using the app (android) is to write emails to teachers that you can only first communicate with via compass at my school. After a couple of sentences I can't scroll down to the end. I can't see what I'm typing. Because I'm frequently going in and out to edit I frequently hit the same back button to return to writing but it takes me instead out of the email Im writing back to the dashboard and there is no draft saving of the email. It disappears.
Unfortunately the Android version is not as polished as the IOS. Several screens there is truncated text not displayed correctly such as Chronicle/Entry. Half of the text is missing but the same entry IOS version appears correct. I've had 3 Android phones that have this issue so yet to see it appear correct on any Android phone yet. It's been an issue for a long time now.
Extremely disappointed that since the last updates I can not see my children's classes. I have brought this up and nothing has changed. I have uninstalled the app and reinstalled it, no change. I have restarted my phone, no change. I have contacted Compass and was told to use the website instead of the app. Weeks have gone past no changes. Everything worked fine before the update but now it is terrible. The website has more features than the app and works fine.
Update: Something has haplened and all is working again. When it works, the app is a fantastic resource. One stop shop for school notices, kids' reports, and I can record my kids' absences. Unfortunately, it frequently refuses to open for me. My husband has a different issue, where it constantly logs him out, and then errors when he tries to sign back in. As a result, I have to constantly contact the school for information.
I use this as a teacher. The app shuts down multiple times a day and despite regular updates, it doesn't work well. Student names and faces often don't match. Quite often, while creating an entry for a student, it shuts down.
Super buggy app that is unfortunately used by many schools for critical notifications. -------- Notifications stopped working again. Compass support is quick to claim it was my phone. One of the compass updates fixed it. But another compass update broke it again. Sigh. It's an unreliable app and I'm glad that I get an email because any urgent notifications would be lost. 2025 update - now I get delayed notifications, but clicking them does nothing (it doesn't open the notification in the app).
Has many short comings! I've only been using for 10 minutes & its disappointing. When u view times table the whole screen does not scroll.U have 3 lines @ the bottom of the screen & only they scroll, you cannot see the whole day @once!There is no way to see a whole week timetable @once!That would be very handy.Especially if u could print&share it. This app could be great, but so far its disappointing but so close.Im expecting more short comings as I use it more:(
The user interface is a bit too simple and lacks responsive design. It does not adapt itself according to screen size. As a result, it is useless, especially when we need to look at events or make payments. I have to scroll, and often time even then, the full text is not visible, forcing me to change global settings to minimise font size. In this era, it is absolutely unacceptable.
Used to be good, terrible now. Loads newsfeed then when you try to click on anything else comes up with "oops" and a message that your teams are aware and are working on it. App is unusable in its current state. 07/12/25 - you keep your one star because I shouldnt have to uninstall and reinstall everytime you do an update. I been using Compass for 10yrs and never had an issue until this past year!
Super buggy and has tons of "issues" that are always "being worked on" but never fixed or "restored". Havent been able to access the attendance section all year, even when there's a notification for an attendance note needed. Opening the app always has an "issue" and closes the reopens normally. Not to mention the degrading "oops" message whenever it decides to not work is infuriating, we are adult users, not children. Just fix app so we can use it. *edit issues resolved via email chain.
May I suggest for explaining an absense there be an "error" option added. Teachers often forget to correct the roll if a student is late to class (eg. went to the wrong classroom, got a late slip, presents late slip to the teacher and yet it stays as an absense for the entire lesson and to correct this I need to email the teacher and admin and follow up multiple times).
compass would be better without.2 factor authentication is the dumbest idea for schools. especially as this is my personal device. this extra work and ENFORCEMENT of using devices is illegal but supported by Compass and the Victorian dept of education.
Its been great. It would be even better if there was an easier way to switch between multiple children at different schools. eg between primary and high school.
Compass hasn't worked properly for me for months. Now I can't log in with my usual account details, I get a message that my account has been closed. I was able to log in a couple of times with a one time code but now that's not working either. Also I'm shocked to see how much we're actually paying for this app. It's poor value for money given the ongoing issues. Can't wait to be rid of this app entirely.
Hasn't worked properly for a while. I go into it and it goes to the "close app" page straight away. It worked for a short while so I assumed the bugs were fixed then nothing for months. All updates are current. No point having the app on my phone really.
Zero stars. A useless app, that doesn't even load. I reccommend an actual functionable app that opens up and allows students to check what classes they have on.
Haven't been able to open the app at all for over two weeks. I get this pop-up: 'Oops! We apologize for the inconvenience, our teams are aware and are working to restore service as soon as possible. Please try again shortly. Close app'. There isn't any way to resolve it as there are no options available to me.
