Excellent for what it is. If you want a ready made place to go with pleasing visual design to be informed on one work of art a day (you can review past days as well) along with supplemental articles, this is it! Could you get the same with Wikipedia? Probably, but it wouldn't be as curated and visually appealing. It doesn't really have quizzes or other pedagogical tools (at least not the free version) but if you are good at self-guided learning it's good.
I started using this app's widget as a funny little conversation starter, but have kept it around for years because it genuinely brings me so much more joy than I expected it to. It's a wonderful, informative little app. My only request would be to add a resizable widget on Android that doesn't zoom in on the artwork. There used to be one, but now it fills the widget space and often cuts off some of the art instead of scaling it down to fit. Aside from that, I love the app and daily articles!
I love this app and so does my 7 year old. The art is varied and each piece comes with an interesting and engaging description. Sometimes the personalities of the writers shine through when discussing the art which is fun. It's worth spending the $6 or so (or $2 when on sale) for the pro version so you can collect more favorites, and look at other works from your fave artists in the archives (and apparently avoid lots of ads - I haven't seen ads on this in years).
I like the app it gives me the opportunity to discover new masterpieces and artist. The blurbs are simple and informative. My biggest complaint and the reason it is not 5 stars (really it is a 3.5) is because finding art on your own outside of the daily notification is bad. I often get a daily work, like the artist go to their page only to find zero masterpieces on their page, not even the one that brought me there. Extrapolate over artists, themes, movements, schools etc. It's very frustrating.
What a pleasant surprise this app has been! I finally bought the app after having it for a couple of months because it is well curated and doesn't espouse leftist idealogy that i have come to expect from creative outlets. It's what i hoped it would be- succinct descriptions for artwork of the day. The writing is often lighthearted, and there's always a little bonus link at the end if you want to delve a bit deeper. The premium version is even more robust.
I've had this app for quite awhile now and I never tire of my daily notification! I'm glad I can "favorite" the ones I especially like and even download them in high definition. Buying the upgrade of the app was worth it. *****Just wondering why the app keeps prompting me to rate it when I've already done so twice. It's getting a little annoying.
I genuinely recommend! I've been using the free version of this app for a year and recently upgraded when they went on sale because I was getting so much value out of it. I keep a widget on my phone screen so I have a constant display of different art every day. When one interests me and I want to learn more, I click into it to read the commentary, which is always so interesting and is written with a very refreshing tone. Plenty to enjoy even with the free version! My art education is enriched!
I love to see new art each day, with explanations about the artist and when it was created. It inspires me to read more through the expansive knowledge this app offers, and by clicking on the artists name you can see their other works, and even more indepth background. I especially love this as I start my day over coffee. I'm never to old to learn something new. Upgrading to premium is well worth the low cost.
This app was amazing, and I understand the need for support through subscriptions, however it's pretty upsetting to lose all the favorited paintings I had saved for free to my account. I frequently went back to my favorites list for inspiration when painting. But because favorites are hidden behind a pay wall, I can't access any of them. I get not being able to favorite new things if you don't subscribe but man.
App is fantastic for getting you into art over time; each day covers a new thing from a new place, and teaches a lot of neat bits of history One thing after the recent update is, now that we can check out artists, it would be nice if you could distinguish between reposts of the same piece without having to load the original post. For example, Flaming June has now been posted three times, and showed that many times when I look at the artist. It looks strange to have three of the same piece.
Honestly really relaxing during my busy, stressful schedule to be presented with a quick reprieve in the form of a piece of art and a brief description. This app won't spam you with notifications - one simple notification a day for the piece of the day, which for me is in tge evening due to my timezone (Ukraine). The information given is interesting and easy to digest quickly on a quick break, and the art works presented are also varied. I don't find ads to be a problem.
I love the Daily Art app. The scans of the art are really high quality, and the information about each painting/artist is the perfect amount - enough to satisfy, but not enough to overwhelm. They're even considerate about what ads they allow - I've yet to encounter anything loud or that takes me out of the mindset of enjoying art. I will definitely be supporting monetarily once it is in my budget. Thank you, DailyArt, for doing what you do!
This app is perfect for anyone who loves art. I found that having little things to look forward to every day make me a little bit happier, so I downloaded this app and another one that gives me random facts. This app gives you a very descriptive, yet not too long explanation of the art piece for that day- where it came from, the artist, why it was created, where it is now, and even more!
Useful learning app (and pretty pictures!) This app is a nice way to learn a little something, and see something pretty and/or interesting everyday. I love going to museums, but I'm not any sort of expert, so I like that the descriptions teach a little about the artist or context or even technique. I also love seeing the location of each piece, it's been fun seeing locations I've been to!
Biographic information is a treat! Wish there were more examples of the works described (constraints of space and time). However, links to museums, other artists or more of the featured artist's work, especially if it is in a different style, really is a wonderful feature. Your efforts have sent me to my books and zooming across the internet in search of obscure (to me), art. Appreciate your time and dedication to bring this piece of culture and history into our busy days. It reminds us to look.
This new version is great because you can make the pieces of art larger and zoom in on them. It's crisper and I like the color palette better. However ads are now covering up the year the art was made and I can't see it. And now when I move from piece to piece an ad plays. I understand they have to make money but it's disappointing nonetheless.
Easy to use and lots of information. I enjoy how you can click on a painter and it shows which museums they are in and their artwork. Information has proofreaders, so there are no errors. The quality of the images are great and I like how you can zoom in. I've been trying to learn more about the art genres, and this is a great resource. Glad I found this app!
I've found the analysis quite thought-provoking, though it's very brief. The art itself is reasonably varied. In short, the app is fun without requiring beforehand an education focused on the arts. There's a small problem with the English translation at times; also some of the commentary is much better than others. It's always worth reading, though, and the art is outstanding.
Great to have on hand as educator. You can use it in english class as a prompt. What do you think? Do you like it? Describe what you are seeing. In art class its a daily warm up. Try to draw this in 5/10 minutes. Draw this image in your own style (or given by teacher). In history class maybe it can connect to historical events & add context. Since the image changes it takes away the time needed to do that. Which used to be a hassle. Or maybe the app is great to look thru while popping.
NOT JUST PRETTY PICTURES I really enjoy Daily Art... It is both an introduction and an education. It's easy to digest visually and each day's offering includes a 3 - 5 minute introduction to the painter, the art, and it's history. And, just in case you want to know more, there are links to much more in-depth information. It is seemless to use across devices and systems and it has become a part of the day that I look forward to.
