It works, but it constantly and unpredictably turns off. Then when I go to reenable if, I have to reenable permissions, and go through about 6 clicks every time. I have no idea if this is a quirk of it being free or some other shenanigans. I'll be moving on to something more consistent with a better UI/UX. This would easily be 1 star except it works when it works.
When you take screenshots they appear much darker. Given the permissions you already have in order to run the app, it seems possible to turn off the dimming right as a screenshot is taken to get around this, but I don't know how the app works internally or if this is actually possible. Other than this, it works great and is super easy + simple to use! I had some issues before where the amount the screen dimmed by was inconsistent, but I haven't had that problem in a while.
I needed a darkening app for my Google TV. I could not find any, but sideloading this worked well, unlike some others. However, once installed on my TV I could not modify the settings after initial settings were set. Would you mind making it official for Android/Google TV? Modern TVs are almost incapable of getting dark. I would like to use Pro features on my TV. My wife and eyes would appreciate it.
Bought this because the cheaper replacement screen for my phone had an issue where it was too bright at its dimmest setting. That part I love that it saved me from it... However it drives me insane that the paid features don't work correctly. I figured the light sensor occasionally bouncing from dark to light, the auto on/off never worked, and accessibility needs to be turned back on every single night.
This could easily be THE best app on the app store. Works brilliantly and can lower the brightness to basically nothing, completely free and has no ads. Only negative is that it doesn't work on the lock screen and when you swipe down the top of the screen and you have to pay for it to work on the very top and bottom of the screen. Otherwise it is really good I recommend, along with another app called "volume control", which allows you to lower sound lower than android goes. Thanks for the app!
this app is good and i use it every night. my only issue is that sometimes, after a few days of usage it just stops working? for some reason, i press on the icon and nothing happens. i even tried entering the app forcefully through settings and turning it on in the app, but still nothing. i have to delete and reinstall the app every time that happens. i hope this bug will get fixed, but overall really good app!
Seems to be perfect for my needs and is only 80kb (which is what drew me to it in the first place). Of course it would've been nice to have scheduling in the free version, but the ability to auto turn it off on case of encouraging bright light is a very nifty feature. If I continue using it for a couple of weeks and still like it, I might buy the Pro version as well.
I love this app — it makes dealing with light-sensitive migraines so much easier. My one big gripe with it is that when you screenshot anything with the color filter active, the screenshot takes on a much darker version of the color filter I'm using, which totally distorts the image. I have to pause Darker, take a screenshot (so that it looks normal), and then start Darker again. Drives me nuts!
Oh my god, thank you! I would give six stars if I could. Finally, a blue light filter and screen darkener that you CAN TURN OFF! Why the heck none of the others let you do that is beyond me, but I will never use an app that demands a constant background process. I just want to turn things on when I need them and off when I'm done. Thank you so much. There are also other features that nobody else has but I find essential, like lowering the brightness below the hardware limit. 10/10, perfection.
Works wonderfully, though on my Kindle I cannot seem to find a way to open the UI, lol. Not a MASSIVE deal, since it still works... Just no customizable brightness for that one device. All other regular Android devices it works perfectly! Thank you for this EXTREMELY useful app!
it works as a filter (basically just a dark overlay over your screen) but I find that it's just not as dark as it used to be? I've used this for about 3 or so years now and would darken my screen so it was comfortable to look at in the dark, but now it's like 10% lighter (still on lowest) and the brightness is just enough to trigger my migraines.
Ever since my android took water damage the screen has always been extremely bright and blacks out when certain colors flash the screen rapidly, since I got this app it has never been more useful and stopping my phone from blacking out everytime something flashes, it even offered a free trial of the pro version after some use which is rather nice and I dont have any money to afford a fix for my phone right now so this is really the best I have and it works well!
THANK YOU!! Old android user here. I've used my phone for so long that the screen lighting circuits have partially fried, so my screen is screwed up if the brightness goes below 20%. Fine in the day, but way too bright during the night. This app darkens the colors on your phone to allow the screen to be darker instead of using system brightness! It really works and is an amazing app!
EDIT: While yes the Google update may have broken it, if you clear the cache and storage and set it up again in the accessibility options it seems to work again. No idea why Was perfect and restored the proper hella extra dimness that I had on my pixel 6 that I no longer had on my current pixel 9. However with the most recent December update, Google did something that broke it and now it actually gets brighter when enabled. Hopefully it gets fixed soon.
I've been using this app for years to help with my sleep/sensitivity to bright light at night. It's been an amazing staple for me. However I just got a Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 and it seems there is no way to affect the external display's brightness. Please fix this! The external screen is most of what I like to use
Simply brilliant. Turn off and on easily by tapping the app icon, no fuss. Further settings can then quickly be accessed from the task bar along the top of your phone - filter strength and colour mainly. Less than 1mb and no ads or permissions. There is a pro version which allows you to set automatic timers, start at boot and lower darkness below 20% but I have personally felt no need to invest yet.
This app hasn't worked for awhile. You can set it on in Accessibility so it doesn't make apps inaccessible on screen, but very shortly after it turns itself off and you get a bright screen again. The author asks folks to set it, and we do. But if author could find out what's going on it'd be great, because the app still doesn't work as it should.
Solid app, does what it says on the tin without any fluff, super useful for cutting out glare if I'm using my phone when it's dark out. Not sure if it's still getting updates, but a toggle beneath the main brightness slider in the app to change it to slide in intervals of 5% would be a nice little quality of life change. So when you're turning the brightness down it goes from 100% to 95%, 90%, 85% etc. Otherwise though, it's rock solid, haven't had any bugs or anything that I can think of.
I'm using an older version of DARKER. I am using it on Redmi Note. It is a phone with a low Android version, but it appears to be Android version 11 or higher. DARKER OLD VERSION BRIGHT It seems to have been set to 0%. It seems like I woke up from sleep, but when I press the power button, the UI appears, and the black screen appears. When I turn on the phone, the desktop image appears for a moment, but even if I quickly unlock it, it is immediately covered with a black screen. The scree
So far, so good. And simple! I wanted simple. The color palette options are just right, I feel, too. So many dimming apps are so red, even when you try to adjust them by the controls they allow you. But I was able to get this one just right, and with simple controls and options. Thank you for the nice work!
