This app is part of my overdryve pro 8. It absolutely sucks. You would think that these guys would know how to build a decent GPS but nope, I paid hundreds of dollars and now need to send in my device ro get it flashed at a cost of 100$. Thats not even certain to fix it as i fear the issue is bad coding trying to marry all this software. DO NOT TRUST ANYTHING RAND MCNALLY NOT WORTH IT

The app used to work, only stays open when wifi is turned off; defeats the purpose of having connections via wifi if app shuts down as soon as you try to connect to wifi. I have the S20 Ultra, the app worked fine for a spell, now doesn't work at all. The camera works just fine! Also the map never worked due to needing to be connected to internet, which you cannot do if you're connected to the camera's wifi... Like others, I got this for the app/xfer features. Maybe looking at other brands soon

Agreed as others have posted. This app use to work, but now, it connects to the camera, but will not show you any of the videos or pics on the camera. This really limits the usefulness of this camera. Additionally, the WiFi associated with this camera and app, also only works one way. It will not allow you to be connected to cellular and the camera wifi at the same time, meaning you'll have NO internet access, and NO cellular on your phone. Now your phone is useless as well!

This allows a connection between your phone and the Dash Cam 500. However it ONLY allows a WiFi connection. Which disables the LTE and other network connections. You can either connect to the camera and have a dumb phone OR you can disconnect from the camera and have a Smartphone. You can't have both. You also cannot download updates for the camera since it requires a connection to the phone to do so.

Yes you can download but it's not very fast and to try and watch the video streaming it buffers every 5 seconds for 20 seconds. Also, instead of just letting you decide where to store data and downloads it stores internally then you have to move it to you external memory or it will fill up the internal. App definitely needs help.

3rd McNally device, they all failed within a year. This one seems to have a WiFi issue between the camera and app on Android 9 not allowing them to communicate. Either a hardware issue on the device, or software issue with the app or Android OS. My issue coincided with Android OS 8 to 9 update. Beyond the usual clear cache, factor and hardware resets, McNally's remaining solution was to RMA. 1 year warranty - keep your receipts! When the app worked, it was decent. Device still works and functions by itself or as a USB drive. Email support did not respond.

App keeps crashing and there is no way to lock videos on the dashcam itself. Wishing I had not spent the money on this dashcam and put a little more money and got one that the manufacturer stands behind instead of having you try something and then when that doesn't work tell you that you are out of warranty. I'm done with Rand McNally products! Their tech support won't even respond to help figure out what the problem is!

App keeps crashing, won't connect to the camera, so I'm unable to upload any videos! Can't even view them through the app!! I've Uninstalled, and reinstalled the app several times, and still having the same problems! Please do an update to fix the bugs! It worked well the first year, and now it sucks!

Only reason I got this dash cam is because it said you could use the app to get the videos. App will not work if wifi is turned on, but have to use wifi to connect to the dash cam. The mounting bracket for the dash cam has very limited range of motion with almost no side to side adjustment capabilities. If the connectivity problems With the app are not fixed I will be demanding a full refund for the dash cam due to false advertising.

I would have given it a 5, but out of the blue it just started crashing. Can connect to the cameras WiFi, but wont connect to the live feed or the videos anymore, all it does now is close the app when you try to open the app. Please fix this and i will Absolutely change to 5. I use a Samsung Note20 5g and the Samsung Tab S7+ 5g. Both were working great and now both are notta.

This app was working great. Until the last update. Now everytime I open it it stays up for 3 seconds then closes out. I've cleared cache, cleared data, and even Uninstalled/reinstalled it. And it's not staying up. And I can't find any support on how to get it to work.

Somebody had a brain fart when designing this app. I can't use MapShots because I have to be connected to the internet to do that. If I'm connected to the camera (with wifi) I'm not connected to the internet. Connecting to the internet disconnects the camera. Thanks for nothing, Rand Mcnally. I think I'll buy another brand next time.

App was working. Now every time I go to open the app it say (Dash cam by Rand Mcnally keeps stopping) and will not open. I've tried restarting my phone and turning power off and waiting 5 minutes before turning power back on several times. I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app several times also with no luck. Every time you go to open app it keeps on saying the thing (Dash Cam by Rand Mcnally Keeps Stopping)

Only thing I don't like is when you are connected to the camera it has your internet disabled. other than that, works as advertised! Not sure why others give it a low rating or cannot figure it out. I'm running a Samsung S9+ as well. Other say it doesn't work but works on mine. Took about 5 minutes to install, configure and learn how to use it!!

I should have read these reviews before buying this dashcam. The sole reason I bought this one is because it advertised compatibility with the phone app. Works great for one day after that...... blank can't get the video to play can't load the videos on my phone nothing. Camera itself still works just not compatible with the app. Should have listened to my gut and not gotten a Rand McNally product. I'm so tired of having to replace a GPS every six months to a year yeah I should have known better

The app works great on iPhone. Video and Picture quality is great for a dash cam. It can record up to 5 minute segments continuously throughout the day. That being said, the app is absolutely useless on Samsung products. Opening it will only result in the app immediately closing itself out no matter how many times you try. The app opens fine if you're not connected to the dash cam, but as soon as the wifi connects you to the dash cam, it reverts back to not working it at all and immediately shuts the app off. The developers of the app don't seem to interested in fixing this issue for Samsung customers. Having to use my laptop to access the dash cam for my employer. Want to thank the developers for making a great quality dash cam and also thank them for completely ignoring and refusing to help samsung users when it comes to them accessing the app. Real nice move there. Only paid $200 for you camera, can't even give me a working app to use the fuggin thing.

I had the same problem about it connecting to for the first week then stopped. I Uninstalled it then reinstalled it a few time and it would open then closed quickly. But I renamed my video folder and I was able to install and stay open. I also denied it access to video and stuff. But once I tried to see videos it made me allow access to foldes. But it's open and stays open for now. Good luck 👍 hope this helps

It's a smaller yet simple device if your looking to only record while your vehicle is in the on/start position. Mine does not. I bought it to catch my gaslight stalker! Needless to say it shut off as soon as my vehicle did. In my personal opinion I think it was an outrageous price tag for such a basic camera. But maybe it's exactly what you might need! Good luck

After a few months of this app working perfectly, I suddenly had problems with the app crashing every time I connected to the dashcam. I'm super happy to announce that a new update finally came, and the app no longer crashes! Rand McNally has a long history of providing navigational aids for drivers. Updating their maps in the 1980s is just as important to them as updating dashcam software in the 2020s. Thank you! I'm happy to change my review to FIVE STARS!
