App crashes frequently, even when not open. I can rarely get through reading one article without the app crashing, I haven't been able to read more than one per day in months. I suspect it has something to do with ads embedded in articles; crashing oven occurs when scrolling down past new ad. This appallingly poor behaviour has persisted periodically for years and gotten worse in the last few months to the point of being unusable. The Register has great reporting, but the app is total garbage.
App has not worked at all on Android 6 in over a month. I submitted a bug report when it first stopped working. I have completely removed and reinstalled it. No other app on my phone has a problem. I checked other Gannett newspapers apps and it's the same, no Gannett app works on my Android 6 phone. I want to support local journalism but it's hard to justify when you can't access the product you're paying for. The app has never been a pleasant experience to use even when it did work.
I have paid for an online subscription and the app is so cumbersome to operate. The app doesn't remember me logging in and so I have to log in to read nearly every article. Then, when I do log in, it just fails repeatedly. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app without any help. Very disappointed.
Couldnt locate a link to make a direct complaint to the paper -- which is a problem in itself. App design has annoyed me a number of times. I read the NYTimes and Washington Post on apps, so I know a good experience is possible. Register: Their links aren't always correct. Difficult to find an article that's in the paper version of the paper. Simply- cumbersome.
You can read limited amounts of stories per month unless you subscribe but subscription price is reasonable. Also, it doesn't say what devices this subscription works on. Further, the developers don't respond to emails.
As a subscriber, I don't know how the app can recognize me by name when I open it or click on a friend's story, but won't allow me to view material behind the pay wall that I have paid for and am logged in to view. Sometimes it works.
Right now it's a one. Loaded the new app on my phone and can't get past the 'turn on notifications' screen. I don't want notifications. I emailed the developer and no response. The old app worked just fine. you still haven't fixed the notification part.
App does not let me select the categories that I want to see. For example, I have no interest in sports, but cannot eliminate it from the home screen. I want to have "Crime and the Courts" on the home screen, but cannot put it there. It's a lazy news app.
A little disappointed. As a digital subscriber, the app was not reliably written and keeps shutting down every time I go to the search bar to try to locate a single topic.
As others have said it makes me login each time. I sent an email to user support and they gave me instructions for fixing problems with the website instead of the Android application.
I hate the pop up advertising that is slow to load. Sometimes, I simply leave the app and go to another news source. The app is often slow to load and clunky to react.
More difficult to use than enewspaper only app. I have a good sized phone, but page-to-page navigation and enlarging of an article works inconsistently if at all.
The REGISTER sucks. Don't bother getting a subscription. It's more obituaries than anything else. If it weren't for the obits, the REGISTER would have folded by now. Get it online for lots less money.
I am a subscriber and DMR signs me out frequently. I have to log out , then back in. Should not have to mess this much with something I pay for when my free news apps run fine. The news is fine.
Everytime I get a notification for a story to read. I cant read it unless I agree to pay $69.00 a year. I already pay over $20.00 per month not sure why I should pay more than that
Sends me notifications for articles that require a subscription. Can't turn that part off, really annoying.
Can't filter sports notifications out despite specifically turning sports notifications off in the settings. Which it makes it more of a nuisance than an actual news app.
Has been signing me out for awhile and have to sign back in for certain articles. Today I can't sign in at all. Says I have too many devices but only use one.
As a subscriber to the newspaper printed version; why should I be continually asked to be a digital subscriber. Get the print and digital program solved.
Lousy product. Keeps freezing and closing despite Uninstaller, reinstall and updating. Very frustrating. Makes me question why I subscribe.
