Surprise! Updates make it worse. Does not coordinate with the television. The communication between the phone app and the TV is even worse than before. Recordings on one don't show on the other and vice a versa. Even more difficult to navigate now. Not user-friendly at all. Honestly there are times when you don't think an app can get worse...well, DirecTV you've done it.
I tried the free version. Very limited program selection in live and on demand videos. Also, there's a video (not an ad) running in the lower right corner all the time that can't be removed. The video can be changed but not removed, even when you stop the video. Finally, every on demand video I tried to watch required a subscription. These videos are available in other apps for free with limited commercial interruption.
sounds like a deal, but after they break the different component charges down and raise and/or add new charges its just more of the same. you have to add this APP, that APP, and the other APP to stream what you want, you wind up with a crazy high bill. All the talk about thousands of movies and shows is smoke & mirrors to mask that very little is free stuff that comes with your "Direct TV" cost. the best deal is unlimited recordings.
My experience in 3 billing cycle. 1. I can't cast on demand only live and recording, as well as sometimes the casting signal will just not appear even if you restart 2. They will raise the price of your subscription on you when ever they want. I was subscribed for $50 a month then on Dec 2, I was checking my online bank and saw they raised it up to $65 without any notification. But immediately after I canceled my subscription I get a "We will miss you" email. How is this even legal? Bye!!!!!!!
Since the last update, the app doesn't load up quickly anymore, and sometimes hangup and never load up at all. When it opens, it always show an error msg that's something went wrong and the refresh bottom doesn't work, it doesn't play the live TV programs. I uninstalled and reinstalled it but still no changes, that's back in 2018. As of today, there's a big improvement and everything is working fine now. I like it and going to give it 4 stars and recoomand it, as it comes with convenience.
This is one of the worst apps I've ever used. I have it on both my mobile device & Fire Stick. It very frequently displays an error message claiming there's no internet connection (which is false). Fixing this error requires clicking the "clear data" option and being forced to log back in (painful using a remote to select a character at a time - especially when they won't even save your username). If you do manage to get in, the interface is clunky and search is unusable.
The DVR feature is absolutely terrible. It starts recording late or ends early and certain parts of what was recorded freeze and then go back a few mins in a constant loop. The audio is way out of sync. How is this thing getting worse?! Unacceptable, if I didn't have at&t I would drop this service in a minute but they suckered me in with their free HBO and all... Update: This thing barely functions I'm going to another streaming service even if it costs more. I'll gladly pay extra.
Absolute Garbage. Can no longer sort by channel or number on any of our TVs. We've marked many of the channels as favorites. When we log into the app, it states we don't have any favorites??? To make matters worse, they put the same canned response on every negative reply in the app store. When we first signed up, we paid about $60/month. Now, after several years, it's doubled and we got nothing for the increase in cost.
I'm absolutely livid. I'm paying for a service that I can't access. It isn't working on either Roku, the computer, or the app. The app keeps telling me that my location services are off, so I'm unable to stream until they are turned on. Location services are on, however, the app still won't register my location. Customer service is an absolute joke. There isn't a phone number for assistance, you have to go online for chat. There isn't a time stamp on messages, you just have to sit and wait. I'm currently at 40 minutes waiting to find out why I suddenly can't watch Directv Now on any device. BEWARE
In full screen mode the pause button is in the middle and can't get rid of it, it's annoying!!!! Please fix The above comment was from a month ago, soon after that the problem got fixed. But now I can't even see anything because even tho my GPS is turned on, I'm not able to watch anything including on demand shows and recordings because the app can't seem to locate me with GPS. This is so frustrating! Your whole IT team for android sucks!
Very unstable. Complete garbage. I've been trying this on and off for months hoping that it will improve, and it hasn't. Constantly getting messages that "Something went wrong" and that I should restart the app and force close my device. And this happens during the middle of streaming live shows. Also, local channels are not always available, sometimes some are, other times they're not. I watch primarily on a Samsung smart tv. Get YouTube TV.
The most annoying entertainment app I have! I only gave it a two bc occasionally I don't have problems. Oftentimes, On Demand selections don't work appropriately. It'll say its not available (though its right there) and wont fully load, or the sound is off. The ads can be pretty frequent and repetitive among other kinks and bugs. Definitely a lot of room for improvement, still good to have. Also, to reference a previous post, I am using it on my firestick as well, could be a part of the problem.
The new APP is not ready for Prime Time yet. It's apparent that AT&T and DirecTV are still in the process of migrating with each other from the merger, acquisition, and its also still apparent that there is more work to be done, to work out all kinks, flawss,bugs etc. But it's good to see that the App is now available across the streaming platforms such as, Firestick, Roku, Apple etc., that eliminates the $7 charge per individual box to have a TV in the spare room and be able to watch.
Directv clearly doesn't give a rat's ass about supporting this app. It stops randomly, tells you that there are too many streams at once constantly when I have only one stream, the DVR can only be watched in app. Don't even get me started about the error 202. I can't get directv normally so I thought I'd try this piece of trash. What a mistake! There are problems literally every time I try to relax and watch TV, yet every other streaming app works flawlessly on my TV. Your app developers need to be fired. Canceling and getting YouTube TV. 🖕
Watching a show & 2/3 of the way in, ad time. Only the ad doesn't load. It freezes the app. Have to restart app & the show is too 'new' to fast forward to where I was, so I'd have to restart. I wish for the amount you pay for service, they'd have the courtesy of playing all ads at the beginning, then letting you watch your show. The breaking in the middle should be reserved for free streaming services. Add on that it logs off every time the app is closed, now I'm outta stars & patience.
Trying to play back recorded shows on this app is an absolute nightmare. The screen goes blank, then back on again, literally every 3-4 seconds. It's impossible to watch any recorded sgow without wanting to break to TV. The same thing often happens with live TV. No, it's not my WiFi, as every other streaming app on my TV works fine. It's you, you're the problem.
Recorded shows aren't available for viewing remotely. I've called 5 times and spoke to 4 people, 4 different problems. No one knows what's wrong. Last rep said that there is a software upload issue that has been ongoing since 3/31/2023, but my acct is not included. Someone will contact me in a week. Perhaps after 17 years, it's time to change companies. I don't use social media, so don't give me that suggestion. Directv appears to be going downhill! Fix the problem! Tried calling, waste of time.
Have used this service since it launched. The app nor the website work well with Chromecast for casting. Never has and it honestly seems worse now than even when it first launched. I like how many channels I have, no data used since on ATT for cell service but if the app won't cast it to my tv, what's the use in all the channels if you can't watch them? Support is just a bot telling you to restart all your devices, which I do before I even try to get support, so that is of no use. Will be trying out other services to test their reliability in casting.
So many issues....new episodes arent available as soon as they air, sometimes taking 24 hours to be available. If you DVR the show, sometimes it wont play. When using the search option, the movie or show doesnt appear; you have to go to the network page and scroll to find it. It increasingly becoming not worth the irritation or money. Most of these issues started around the time of the name change from Direct TV Now and it's not an all inclusive list of issues. Yes my app is updated.
I got the new Galaxy 325 Ultra a couple of weeks ago. I installed the Direct app, and when I sign-in, the screen opens to black, and stays black. I've reinstalled the app, I've rebooted my phone, I've even called support and they told me to give the app time to load. I would think 2 weeks would have been long enough! Not working. Edit: I repeat, I even called Tech Support. They were no help.
