With all the ID verification stuff they're threatening, I've already cancelled my Nitro, but even the company seems to want me gone. I updated the app, suddenly, voice calls with video don't work. I try to see my friend's screen as we play remotely, and it keeps minimizing and disappearing. I had to load an older version through a third party installer just to use the service without problem. Looking for alternatives, Discord does not care about its client base.
Just use it on your PC or laptop, it's much better there. Currently, it freezes and crashes every single time you switch focus for any period of time, it uses a CRAZY amount of memory, and has taken TEN PERCENT of my battery from when I started writing this review to now when just idling in a call on THE LOWEST BRIGHTNESS. Discord's troubleshooting suggestions also did not work, hence a lower review score. Worked great before the most recent update. But, hey, look, new benefits for Nitro!
There must have been an update, because for about a month it's stopped working. Hundreds of others that I'm in a server with are having the same issues I'm having. It'll let us in, for about 2 minutes, then freezes our whole device and stops functioning. We've uninstalled and reinstalled and didn't fix nothing. The server holder doesn't even know what to do. Frustrating.
You guys keep adding features no one wants but god forbid you make the mobile app function at all. It has more bugs than a termite infestation. I'm constantly opening up the app only to immediately close it because it's bugged out (can't view images, can't swipe, can't tap to type a message because it's not registering the bar is there to pull up keyboard, images will load but not correctly and missing parts of the image, etc). Desktop program is great though.
this app used to be great. Now it feels like a big push to frustrate you into paying them every month for the features you used to get for free. The limit of the file size you can send is TEN MEGABYTES. that's absurd. the 25 mb limit it used to have was difficult, but now you can barely send a photo. the app has always had COUNTLESS bugs and interferes with other functions like spotify and Bluetooth connection. I put up with it for years but this is the last straw. I can't even send an .m4a now!
I've been using Discord since it's PC launch and I love it. The Android experience has been wild though. The app has a new weird bug every update. It'll freeze, lag, open in the wrong server or channel when you click a notification, animated stickers and emojis will freeze, video won't play, scrolling will break, notifications will be inconsistent. I was in the beta for a long time but that only made things worse. Please work on squashing these little bugs before you work on UI redesign!
So.. Discord is nice if you're wanting to talk to people and just merely chat , but overall the app on phone is difficult to navigate every now and then and it feels more centered towards PC users. I've struggled to take photos and be able to send them and then half of the time I can't even tell what's what in my photo roll because it will take me to OneDrive. I love Discord but there's a few things I think it could work on, not so many updates are needed for the app on mobile.
The app used to be great. In the last couple updates they really lost their way. Can no longer edit your own messages, sometimes can't even reply. Half the time the long press menu just doesn't come up. EDIT: Dropped to 1 star after the recent data mining announcement. With data breaches and other issues, how can we trust that they'll do what they say and actually secure your PII when they can't secure their own app. Trust is earned, and Discord has not earned that trust.
I don't like the fact a Discord wants to use our IDs to verify ages when it has a history of having information stolen. I'm also noticed that sometimes when I try to click onto a different server, the previous server chat will take up most of the screen and freeze for an unspecified amount of time. I have to close and reopen the app to do anything once that happens.
I've paid for Nitro for years due to quality and ease of Discord but with its Authoritarian crackdown, there's a pretty good chance I Up and leave for greener pastures. It was a perfect space for a time but the constant bombardment of "buy this thing!" and "Give us more information to lose!" makes it hard to ever want to use this app again.
It's a bit overwhelming at first. Doesn't have great free translator bots, unfortunately. After almost 3 years of using it... Needs improvement in my honest opinion. Also, there's no way you can switch between accounts, which is a given on most social media platforms. Needs a better mobile UI for server owners. Also it's stopped sending my replies for the past 3 updates. I don't know what to think anymore.
it works, but the app is trash and there is no way to contact support. Some how my phone number is registered to Discord, without an email, and there is no way to contact them to fix this problem. There site doesn't recognize my email and pass, but I am still logged in under that email. I have requested a change pass, and it's been over 24hrs without receiving an email.
Discord has started taking ID's and facial profiles of people to verify them. However it's been shown time and time again that discord can't be trusted to keep information like that safe. If someone else gets ahold of your profile, good luck getting it back. I have MANY friends who have had to start new profiles for their own safety and privacy.
So this could get lengthy so I'll keep it short for this. The app keeps changing for the worst by enabling features that limit control and extend as far as seeing misc charges when I used orbs and certain things not working. I've had issues with my account, logins, security issues, charges, nitro, and server issues. All things support should easily be able to remedy but choose not to. Implement better customer support and maintenance for the app and RESTORE nitro to what it was.
the Discord app used to be fine, a good way to keep up with old friends, but sometime in the past few months they started pushing notifications about random people from your friends list opening a game and there is no way to turn these off without just disabling notifications for the app alltogether from the android settings menu. Digging through the in app setting there are multiple options that seem like they should turn these off but none of them work.
I've been using Discord for a few years now and it's been very useful to keep in touch with friend groups without giving away personal info. But now every time I open the app there's an ad for Nitro. I am NOT interested. I will not be giving you money to use extra emojis and whatever other features that I don't need. If I didn't have groups on there that I want to keep up with, I would've already uninstalled the app. Get rid of these annoying pop-ups.
I hope you are ready to get the updates and fixes PC gets several years after they do, if ever, and face several more bugs and crashes that haven't been fixed in years, themselves, with more of both to come. Oh, and did I mention that every new feature is premium only, on top of the advertised 'PFP for each server'. Enjoy a good app gone to pot!
I once wrote a review for this app saying that every update keeps making it worse. Little did I know how true that would actually be three years ago! If it were possible, I'd rate this barely functional mess of predatory microtransactions and buggy messaging a negative score, or at the very least a solid zero. But as that isn't allowed, I'm re-upping my 1 star with a more articulate review appended to it. Please, for your own sake, find another messenger app.
every update breaks functionality and adds more bloat and microtransactions. For instance, Discord is the only app for which Google Voice typing does not work and it has been broken for quite some time; that's a really nice middle finger to anyone with a disability. as soon as there's a decent alternative, I'm jumping ship along with everybody else I know.
The app sometimes freezes, or won't show anything at all from a channel for no apparent reason; this can last for hours. And soon they'll want me to give them ID to prove I'm an adult when they already had a data breach for 70k IDs that they already have. In sum: often doesn't work, wants to harvest more of my data, data breaches. No thanks.
