Considering this company is only an online banking operation, I would not recommend them, as the app is always having issues certainly with login in and only getting worse, and many technical issues. They have a lot of work to do to fix there online operations, and the first one would be to fix this login issues that I consistently happening, if you don't mind having to wait a long time for them to even fix it, then sure you can consider them for banking but for daily, don't bother.
Constant server issues. App barely functions on a good day. Often can't access my account at all. Certain tasks like updating account details (eg address) never work on the app or web version. Forcing you to call customer service which are often unhelpful. Not only do I not recommend this app, I don't recommend banking with EQ. Ask yourself, are higher interest rates worth not having access to your accounts/funds when you need them? If the answer is no, stay far away from this awful bank.
The app has been barely useful for the past month. It suddenly started freezing and crashing when I open after a short period of inactivity and the only way to use it is to go on Android App Setting and "force stop" the app. Naturally this makes using the app a complete chore. I have been waiting for this issue to be fixed but it's been a month. I've emailed the developers a week ago but never heard back from them. Very strange.
Updating my review from 2 stars to 1 star. This app does not work with Android One UI 7.0. I literally have to uninstall it and reinstall after using it once. so it's basically a one time use. Clearing the cache and everything doesn't work. I will be moving my money to another bank, already in the process. As an online banking provider, your app should be top tier.
So while the app is a tiny bit touchy I'm leaving this at a 4 because it is 2025 and for whatever reason they don't support push notifications for any account activity. You can choose text or email. Aside from this opening accounts is easy and linking to other institutions is simple to xfer money in. I do find the bank card a bit annoying. You have to manually xfer the funds onto it to use it instead of it just taking from your account directly. Great experience over all. Don't get me wrong
Unfortunately the app (and website) have technical difficulties so often that after several years with EQ I decided to not use them anymore. It is great when it works, but when there are technical difficulties, it's not like I can just walk into a branch and access my money. For a bank like EQ, which is only online and does not have any physical offices, I think more effort should be made that online banking works. An occasional technical issue is understandable, but constant technical issues??
I've been a customer from the beginning and I've never had any issues. Fast forward to 2026 and 50% of the time I can't even load the app. It's glitchy, slow and I get nervous every time I need to send an e-transfer because I don't know if it will even let me. Three stars because I love the product offering and believe in what they offer, but PLEASE fix the android app so I can actually manage my money the way you guys intended.
The features are good. but guys you have to really improve your system and app. It is very very lagging and crashing all the time, very slow. Also you can't do international transfers, it is important and you have to implement it. !!! Looking soon to have this and improve the performance. Canada is adopting electronic banks and you will have a lot of competition
The app has been increasingly hard to log into lately. Biometric login is not working. I've set it up three times already and I still can't login in with biometrics. When I try to login by typing in my password it's still won't go through, keeps telling me to contact customer support. App worked fine a few years back when I opened my account, but lately its been such a frustrating experience just to login into my account.
Great bank. TRASH app. I really like EQ as a bank. They pay some of the highest interest rates to their clients. Their debit card is great for travel - No forex fees. But for a bank that is entirely online, their APP sure does suck A LOT. Takes forever to load and log me in, doesn't remember my passkey even tho I've set it up several times (I'm always forced to type out my password). Dark mode hides some in-app text. UI could be (much) better. Wealthsimple and Amex apps run SO much smoother.
There is a horrible bug that adds an extra future transfer for the next day (Monday) when the funds are transferred 'now' on Sunday to an external linked account. Found by accident when checking pending transactions and (fortunately) was able to delete that future dated transfer. Not sure if this is the app or the website as well (not going to test) Update: submitted a complaint ticket, will update my review when it runs it's course.
The app already had a ton of issues with logging in, but with the latest update neither my husband nor I have been able to login at all. It gets stuck at "This may take a few seconds" forever, so it's practically useless. We're even considering changing the bank given it doesn't do the one thing it's supposed to do which is ONLINE BANKING. So disappointed
It's not the best. VERY INTERESTING when you get paperwork stating you get a certain percentage of interest when applying for direct deposit. They themselves don't need to hold themselves to the interest percentage that they had given you. I lost .25% interest without a single letter stating why. Also the struggle to open the app, it's more than 50% of the time that it doesn't't actually work.
New Update: The application is not working properly as many users already mentioned. It's very difficult to login. I uninstaled/ re installed the app, restarted the phone etc. many times. The problem still persists. Please fix this issue. Easy to use. No fees. Very transparent. All info is clear. There are no issues with any transactions.
Since the latest App update, after signing in, the App will stay stuck on "Loading... This may take a few seconds" for several minutes. After a while, it asks for a pass key from another device, then logs me out. I tried uninstalling and re-installing, as per your support recommendations, but same result. Update Dec 2025: I can login again, and app is faster than before
It has gone downhill. Used to be okay. Updates seem to have added some jank. Have to tap "sign in" three times. First one just to get rid of some alternate google sign in method. When closing out the app there two instances of the app to close. Wth? Amateur. Expect better from a banking app. Not exactly confidence inspiring.
For almost 2 months I cannot log in with biometrics and have to type in the log in details every time. The passkey set up simply does not work. I reached out to the support and DevOps email box but nothing changed. I wish they had added the ability to see your card details online than messing with the passkey and disrupting the experience. another nice feature that it like to have is more details for each transaction, that I can also copy easily.
Horrible as I've lost access to my account and all funds on multiple occasions - one time for 3 1/2 days at months end. I had my paycheque going there for 3 months, but no more and after the last outage, it's time to close accounts. Avoid unless you like having your funds frozen randomly for days at a time.
Great bank mediocre app. Slow to launch, slow to load the different views. Frequently freezes, displaying multiple "dashboard" tabs and not responding to any input. Won't work again until force-quit or the phone is restarted. You are unable to edit existing e-transfer contacts because the "save" button is permanently disabled. Dark mode is low contrast and some text is completely hidden. I'm stuck with it though because EQ is a good bank overall.
It's a very well thought and designed app, but sometimes it is slow. Also, if it stays idle for awhile, it kind of gets stuck, being unresponsive to tapping options. It should automatically log off after a certain time. I use the Android version.
