I wanted to apply for settled status but everything I want to scan my id, the app says I did not complete the steps. and I will be blocked after a 3rd tentative. of course i can't complete the if when I scan my passport there is a message saying I have not completed the step while I try to complete them.... could you help? because i am entitled to get the settled status and cannot see why I do not have it still.
This app is just awful, managed with some difficulty to get through all of the steps, and clicked save for later, however the app just closed down, and now it cannot be resumed from where we got to, but also could not start again, and it eventually just times out.. tried to call the help desk, but for 30 mins we were always 3rd in the queue, no changes, seems like deliberately trying to make it hard for people to complete the process 😔
The NFC scan of the passport is definitely tricky and took me 5 attempts. The instructions are erroneous as placing the phone on the passport will not allign the NFC chip and reader –did not work for me. Touching the top of the phone to the middle of the passport, like on a payment terminal, worked better. It's great that the Home Office is deploying new tech like NFC to help with the application process. Unfortunately it also means many people will be unable to use it because they have an iPhone
The app only allows three attempts at scanning every 24 hours, which wouldn't be an issue if not for the fact it used up all three of those by itself, restarting the whole process after scanning one side of the id. Now I'm stuck waiting for a day, hoping that the attempts tomorrow will get me past this weird bug. Infuriating, and an opposite of helpful.
My only advice would be for people to check and make sure their NFC is switched on and working properly. I tried to scan the passport for a chip with my phone several times but no chip was found. I then tried another phone and the scanning worked right away. That's when I tested my phone and realized the NFC, although switched on, didn't work properly. I eventually went into storage of the app info and cleared cache. And that did the trick! Hope this helps.
The app seems to be completely useless on a Moto G5 Plus. I keep trying to take a picture of my passport photo page, but no matter how I do it or in what light conditions, it still won't work. No prompts whatsoever, it simply keeps telling me "looking for document" even after properly focusing on the page and its text. I was really hoping the least they could do was to have the app working on any Android phone!
Not fit for purpose. Design itself is fine, quite sinple, but it doesnt work. Friend's been trying for weeks, each time theres a different problem. At one point it wouldn't take a picture of her passport, another it wouldn't scan the chip, and now it wont send her a "validation code" by text, even though this part was working previously. Tried 3 different devices, tried helpline and they just said the number must be wrong, even though it worked before and the phone number can't be changed.
It scan passport page but does not read data on my Chip. I tried another chip reading app and it read on first attempt with no problem. Another thing is that I tried numerous times over and over again and at the end got locked out from app for 7 days. I am very frustrated now. Why do you block me? It's not my fault your app don't work properly.
The time I've wasted having to deal with this ridiculous app which doesn't even work, it doesn't validate my document no matter how much I try to make the phrame perfect! Over and over, it's outrageous. I can't do it online because through their website doesn't validate my application and the app either! There's enough stress in people's lives already, specially for foreigners to have to deal with platforms that don't work, they really want to make it difficult for people, almost impossible.
Not fit for purpose I'm afraid. I tried several Android devices with no luck, none of them would scan the passport despite them all having no issues with NFC. Ended up paying an extra £14 and spending a day visiting one of the ID scanning centres, their device finally worked (a bit shakily, but it did the job in the end). Once the technical issues are sorted the process is easy enough, but a huge amount of work is needed before March if this is supposed to go live.
Works well with S10 all done in under 10mn. The only problem I had was with scanning the chip on my passport, which was a little annoying as the app takes you two steps back. The chip reading was not working as I was following instructions and moving my phone on the passport. What you need to do it to rest your phone on the passport without moving it at all. All in all very impressed with how easy it is to get official documents remotely completed in the UK, not the same in France...
App is OK, but the web site has a bug (see below). The passport scanner worked fine. The main difficulty was the final step - taking a selfie. You need good lighting conditions and a comb! ;-) After the app process is finished you need to log onto a web site to complete the application. I should warn users that the site does not recognise umlauts (& perhaps other foreign characters?). It gives a "server error" message. The only way round is to anglicise the spelling. This is really poor given that many users will have foreign characters in their names.
Freezes all the time, I need to restart the phone to restart the app. Does not recognise passports, forced me to use ID card. The redirection to the website took ages, then froze for several minutes. I got kicked out from the queue several times, then got redirected to the instruction page. The process took more than 30 minutes, and still no result. Total failure, please fix the passport scanning feature (at least)
Doesn't work. Installed fine on Samsung galaxy s8, but the first step as I've selected I have an ID card with the right code and the right chip symbol is to take a photo of the backside where the long code is. Well, the app tries to analyse the document and spits out either a short error to try again, or a long one saying it doesn't see the very long and obvious code on the card. Tried in all light conditions I could think of. Stabilised for perfect shot, changed resolutions. Please help!
Seems straightforward - and is, for the most part - but the problem most people have, scanning your passport, is a result of unclear instructions. I tried maybe 20 times or so and only worked it out thanks to the reviews here: put your phone ON the passport and drag it down until you hear the beep, then don't move it any further. For me it worked when the top part of my phone neared the actual chip on my passport. Again, this is not very clear in the app which caused me quite a bit of stress.
The first time I installed this app it kept crashing. I uninstalled it and reinstalled it and then it worked. Now the finer details: When scanning the ID card, the first time always tells you that you're using the wrong document, but then you scan it again and it works. Once you're past the document scanning, the best thing you can do to read the chip is remove any phone cover. For those people who had an issue with receiving the SMS, try without adding the "0" to the mobile number.
Takes A LOT of patience to make it work but useful app to speed up application process. As some people already mentioned, the NFC chip reading for biometric passport is not that straightforward. Unlike what it shows on the instructions, it works better if you have your phone face down. Scanning back of passport instead of front seems to be a better option too. For the picture bit, I'd suggest wearing a dark top, app doesn't seem to like light coloured tops. Rest of process was much easier.
Strangely, it doesn't seem to like EU Mobile Telephone Numbers, so on numerous occasions we have had to enter our phone numbers, just so they can get the authorisation code. Honestly, just because people are in the UK doesn't mean to say they have a UK mobile number. Very hit and miss with picking up the chip in passports and really doesn't like ID cards even if they are biometric. At the very end, it is really confusing as you press continue and keep going around in circles after assigning dates, what you actually need to do is go to the top of the page and follow the link which takes you back. Please move this link to the bottom of the page which surely is the obvious place to put it! Have been using for 18 months now and no improvement, but I suppose we only have to put up with it until the 31st December!
Very impressive how a simple app has made a huge difference. Downloaded the app, scanned my German passport, used my 1 year old HTC phones NFC to detect the chip on the passport cover(if the NFC doesnt detect it from outside, open the passport chip page and place the phone on top of the inside page). Literally took me 3 minutes. Have applied for 2 more family members and in all its taken less than 10 mins. Incredible. Well done Home Office and your IT staff!
I'm a German passport holder and have just completed the application. It works well up to when you need to scan the front or back of the passport. In order for it to scan the chip, the beep needs to sound first. It kind of tells you this in the illustration but the sequence isn't immediately obvious. I thought the beep would sound once scan was successful. So this took me a while. After that, it all worked fine and smoothly. You still need to pay £65, but will get refund after March 29th.
