!!! Dev told me how to do this, as promised, I've updated to five stars. 💜 This would get five stars if the custom pronunciation had "whole word only" and "match case" options. I use it for a lot of work that was originally in Chinese and to get it to say "ge" ("big brother") properly without breaking other words I had to enter about six or eight different variations. And correcting the name "He Wei" causes issues for the phrase "the weight," which comes up more than you realize.

Once you get the right voice, this app is a very nice read along companion that has no limits to what you can have read to you. It's quite a nice app. You can open up quite the number of settings including a pronunciation guide for the reader. The interface is a little complicated, but you can learn it rather quickly. One thing that I would really like fixed is that sometimes when a character stutters as in, "T-That's not true!" the reader will pronounce the "T" instead of blending it.

This app is nearly perfect, but there are a few frustrating aspects. I can't select single words, only whole sentences, which complicates changing pronunciations & looking up terms in a browser. In addition, the pronunciation list automatically scrolls back to the top whenever I make a change. That's inconvenient. Also, it would be great if the pronunciation list could be sorted into abled/disabled terms so it's unnecessary to go through the entire list to check for interference.

Unfortunately one of the updates from a couple months ago completely screwed up the pronunciation. When manually setting the pronunciation it will read correctly in the test area, but once you try to read a book live it doesn't work. For example, it keeps reading the letter "I" as "L". To get around all this I had to seek out and download an older version of the app, as the older version doesn't have this issue. I just have to make sure the app never updates.

I've had Evie for a couple of months now. I really like it for listening to EPUB books I want to listen to. I very much like that I can change the voice to one of a number of them. (I'm curious about Amazon's voice, but I'm unwilling to pay for *any* voice, so I guess I won't be trying it). I like that Evie gives me the option to change how long it pauses for end of sentence and commas (although the pause controls seem to work differently then they did at first). I'm happy to say that the method you described in your last note worked great to allow me to choose what to read in my EPUB books. I can now choose what place to read from, and it starts from there, just like I expected. THANKS!

So far so good. I'm really looking forward to the use of Amazon Polly with my ebook reading. I'm a little worried it's going to cost me more than I can afford, though, with all the reading I do. I suppose I'll see what the prices are when purchasing time becomes available. I know that Amazon charges for their TTS services so it makes sense for the app to be set up like that. Two things I'd want added: voice pitch adjustment and a reading queue/playlist

I've tried the half dozen most popular "reader" apps, and this is definitely the one. The interface takes getting used to, but it's not all that hard, and once you understand it it's no problem at all. There is the "right" amount of customization, arranged so that you can "set it and forget it" and just listen to whatever files you want. The ability to treat any pdf or epub like an audiobook opens up a whole world if you have any niche interests.

I have always enjoyed this app and the freedom it has given me. Sitting down to read a book is no longer an exclusive activity. Edit: Truly appreciate the great dev team and their prompt updates to fix issues. Since my last suggestion was added I figured I would throw another out. In the sleep timer an option to go to the end of a chapter would be quite nice. You can kinda pull this off with timing but not perfectly. Thanks again for the great app and continued support.

My most used app, and also the only app I've ever donated money to. I have gotten so much out of this free app (hence the donation). I love that I can seamlessly switch between reading and being read to. It makes getting things done so much more pleasant, as I don't have to interrupt my book to, say, hang laundry. When I'm not doing another task, I can switch from audio back right back to reading, unlike traditional audiobooks. I really can't praise this highly enough.

The best ebook to voice out there by far, now including Amazon Polly voices available. Add good customer communication and the regular updates and this app is only going to keep getting better. Even my friend who HATES electronic voices was pleased enough with the Polly voices to give it a try. I prefer the British English 'Brian' voice myself. You can control the speed of the reading, add a 'soft voice' option, and control the length of pause for periods at the end o f each sentence (thank you!) Also worth noting, there is another e-reader out there that has Polly as an option, but it stops reading after about half a chapter and has to be restarted, a real pain in the ass. This app does NOT have that problem. Look, it's free, and it comes with a free hour of the credit for the Amazon Polly voices. Try it and see if you like it. Won't cost you a thing.

I love this app. You can listen to books, but also load any text files on your phone. The ability to have my own writing read back to me is invaluable. I can hear where something sounds clunky or grammar/spelling errors occur. The ability to change the pronunciation of words is also a great feature. Proper nouns that the TTS engine is not familiar with often have non-phonetic spellings and will be pronounced incorrectly by default, so it's great to have an easy solution.

I've never been one for audiobooks, but this app is a game changer for me. I use it to listen to a lot of independent fiction and to my own writing and the sheer breadth of voices and ability to customize it is wonderful. I am SO happy about the new "pronunciation correction" tool as well! It really helps for all those fantasy/scifi names! Ads are unobtrusive, the design is sleek, and I'm so glad I found it.

Excellent human likeness even without using Google Polly! Used another text to audio app and just switched to Evie. Using 'English (GB) rjs' voice and almost forget the voice isn't a human narrator. The library feature is great also, showing pics of the books and the ability to continue where you left off. Excited that PDF support is planned! Using Calibre to convert PDFs to epub till then. Would definitely like to support developer's efforts but can't find a purchase option. THANK YOU!

Absolutely phenomenal and free! I love that I can plug in PDFs and it will read them to me, it saves me SO much time as I can have articles read to me for me for my classes. You can change the voices and the speed that they read at so it's helpful for reading articles on my way to campus! It's easy to use and doesn't have ads. I can't say enough about it since there are NO OTHER pdf readers that aren't terrible with formatting or riddled with ads or want you to pay! Great for accessibility!!

I absolutely love this app for turning any book into an audiobook with the click of a button! There are multitude of voices, male and female, even with accents if you prefer. The only issue I would like to state is that there are no options to Bookmark, highlight and save a sentence or quote. Also, when I highlight a word, there is an option to translate it, but NO option to Define the word. The missing features I stated above are pretty common amongst other applications like this. Please add!

I've tried a few reader apps before this one, but Evie has now become my go-to. It works beautifully, and I haven't had any problems listening while using other apps- if it gets paused when I open something, I can just hit play on the drop down menu. There are a couple functions that I miss from other apps, and it's possible they are present and I just don't know how to access them... but if not please take these as suggestions for the future? I would like to be able to modify pronunciation for individual words. Also, to be able to copy and paste an article, short story, etc without having to download it. The last and most minor, to be able to sort things into folders. Overall, though- I love it. Thank you so much!

I use this app a lot. It's layout is easy to use. You can follow along with the voice as it highlights the sentence it says. The downside is if the test is not spelled or grammar checked it will definitely point those out. I use the Google speech (local) for they are free & it sounds better. You have a few female voices & a few male voices. Can easily pause when needed. & if you get a phone call it stops to take the call but after you hang up it continues right where it left off. Great app!

I am thoroughly impressed with this free e-reader! In the past month alone, I have listened to at least 8 books! The voices are smooth, the widget lets me keep playing while I open other apps or turn the screen off, and uses very little battery! I love that I can pick up where I leave off throughout the day. It's simple to have a few books open at the same time. I can listen OFFLINE. Streamlined. Simple. Overall this is the e-reader I've been looking for. Keep up the great work!

Great piece of software. I have been using this app for a couple of weeks now and it's simply the best of its category. However, it falls short in some areas like: 1. Words and sentences with slightly more spaced characters are read as separate letters. 2. Hyphena- ted words are understood as two separate words. 3. Pages headers and footers can not be automatically identified and skipped. Fixing these issues would make it the perfect app for PDF reading.

I love this app ESPECIALLY for it's custom pronunciation function. I read a lot of things with names that don't always read right because they're not always the same language as the rest of the text. I often struggle to read thanks to a combination of brain damage (which effects both languages and eyes) and dyslexia. I've tried a number of options and this recommendation from a friend was a game changer. Its even free. Love it.
