UPDATE: It looks as though the update has worked! Hopefully, whatever bug caused the failure doesn't reoccur. :-) It used to work very well for emergency weather alerts, but recently I can't read them. I will get the notification in my bar, but if I click on it to try to get more info, the main app says that there are no weather alerts. Completely defeating the purpose for me.
The app has had its ups and downs, but it was working for a while. Now it has stopped sending notifications, which makes it useless unless you want to open the app and check each location to see if there have been any alerts. The point is to GET the alerts, not have to keep checking to see if there have been any. 12/18/18 Still was not getting a single alert... Uninstalled, downloaded again -- working now!
I would give it a zero, but that's not an option. I just found out about this app, and being in the path of hurricane Dorian, thought it would be a good app to have. However, it doesn't search/recognize my location when i try to enter it for alerts, making it pretty useless to me. Edited to add: after the 5th install, i was finally able to add a location, so i bumped up the stars.
After my phone's "Wireless Emergency Alerts" app quit working, for no apparent reason, I was looking for an alternative. This one seems to work with all the crazy weather we have had lately (notifications are the same as NWS). My big problem is the app says notifications are sent by TEXT message. The only way I get any messages is to connect to the internet and find if a watch/warning has been sent. To me, requiring internet service is not a text. I don't have unlimited data. What am I missing?
Good ad-free alerts app. Lets you specify the exact kinds of alerts you want for your area and others. It's only drawback is that its county-wide. Some alerts are issued for only specific areas of counties. This app would be perfect if would allow you to set alerts to a precise location (not just county-wide) as some other apps do. Also it needs other notification options (such as a voice or different sound) for alerts so they don't get lost with other notifications.
I have used this app for a couple of years now and really like this app! Especially during times when dangerous weather is wreaking havoc! It has also came in handy for alerting friends and family in other parts of the country to evacuation orders and other dangers. *An improvement I would like to see (if possible) is the ability to change the notification sound - It currently uses whatever the phones default notification is. Not a real big deal, but would be nice.
Sends out alerts as expected, but here's the issue. If I'm in another app (Facebook, e.g.), it won't override it, and there doesn't seem to be a way to get the alert within the actual app, so if you miss it... too bad. Also tried to pull up the app while roaming, and got a "no wifi" connection error. Who the hell has wifi during an emergency??? DO BETTER.
Have had this app for a long time, but haven't received any notifications in months even though I have them turned on in my settings. UPDATE 1/9/2024: I am now receiving notifications again, but only because I opened the app. I had the settings changed to where the permissions and notifications would be stopped if the app wasn't in use, so I would check these settings ahead of time if you haven't! I'm hoping this will fix the issue permanently.
Was a great App, then started sending multiple alerts one after another. Now I get NO alerts at all. If I click on Alerts, click my city, it takes me to settings. I wrote you about it, you sent an email telling me to restart because you fixed a bug on the 4th. It is now the 14th. I've done as you said, even uninstalled and reinstalled several times. I still get no alerts and when I click my city, it still takes me to settings. I loved your App, it's a shame it no longer functions correctly.
Will be uninstalling this app. There used to be a nice section with a checklist of items you should have in your home to prep for a disaster in your car/ area. That is no longer available. You could also get weather alerts for multiple areas which is now gone. The article under Prepare are nice, but not worth it if I can't have the basic checklist. Disappointed.
Have had this app for a couple years, but now as long as there is an active alert, they will repeat every 5-10 minutes, which gets quite annoying when you have 3 active alerts that are active for a 36 hour period, & no way to suspend notification of those alerts. It's all or nothing, either they repeat every 5 to 10 minutes, or you turn off notifications completely & recieve none. Very frustrating. There are other apps available & WITHOUT the insistent NAGGING of an active alert. UNINSTALLING!!!
Usually tame and sensible but this evening there has been some mild occurrences in the area and have received over 20 flood alerts and thunder alerts in an hour. A mild coding error I'm sure Jan242025 update for the most part the app has fixed itself in a way but there's still some things left to be desired sometimes the announcements expire as the notification pops up and I've also noticed it freeze a few times the location function is working before in my previous review it was not working
Just downloaded this app. I like that fact that it picked up the winter storm warning for my area and provided a lot of info concerning this storm. I'm very interested in learning more about FEMA and taking some of their online courses. I'm currently enrolled in a Security Specialist Program and have considered using as my foundation building block to Enroll in an Emergency Management Degree program. Keep up the great work on this app.
This app is absolutely simple to navigate . The only improvements I recommend is the ability to upload videos, also allowing for larger file sizes.
Starting to become worthless. It seems that no matter the timing of seeing a notification, there is no valid alert to correspond to the notification. I saw one just now from ONE minute earlier, checked the app and no active alert.
Weather updates from the National Weather Service! You can opt out of any alerts you don't want. First responders rely on this app now it's available to everyone! Frequently updated as technology 🖥️🖱️ and the public calls for changes. Still my choice for Weather Alerts from FEMA. Highly recommend by this former first responder!
I'm always notified when severe weather strikes. I appreciate being able to connect with our government who cares about our well-being. I feel secure and I feel safe. thank you for putting time and effort into an application where we can stay in touch.
nice to have additional warnings...redundancy is key.
It works well for weather alerts. I like it. They responded to my review and were very polite. Five stars!
(updated review) App works great and the interface is easy to uses. Development team fixed my issues of the app not opening very quickly.
