When Fi3 came around with the subscription model it was supposed to include hardware upgrades. They had raised the price, where the earlier models you bought the device and paid for the service, for a time, a reduced rate. So they have an actual upgrade which they claim faster seek times, a serious need, they have pulled the free hardware upgrades, right after my subscription reupped. And battery life went from months to maybe 2 weeks. The Apple move. Planned obsolescence. Screw us.
Tracking works great but seriously, I don't need 275 notifications a day THAT I CAN'T DISABLE telling me that it's tracking my dog. Nice try Fi. I'm not talking in circles with a service rep. literally all notifications are turned off except for battery, signal loss and search party rinder. I get "Fi is active and monitoring [my dog]" I can dismiss it but it comes back LITERALLY in less than a minute. It is non stop and infuriating. Fix it or I will not be renewing my service.
Just not response enough. dog could be out for 10 to 15 minutes before I ever know they've left the zone. tracking is very spotty, lags all the time. but when it's working correctly, it's pretty spot on. need to work put the bugs for sure. also this is rather spendy for a tracker. other brands off better performance for less money. but also less of the social engagement things.
The new format for tracking sleep is very hard to interpret, especially when the total number of hours is inaccurate! At least with the previous format of a bar graph with each bar reflecting one hour, I could determine where the sleep issues are as well as do my own math for total hours. Please, please switch it back! This new format makes no sense!
I'm comparing this to another tracker, the app is more polished, the device is a lot smaller which is great. I haven't had it long enough to test battery yet. I wish the light was a lot brighter as it is on the other tracker. But my main issue and the most important one, is that it takes forever to locate the dog. deducting another star for the fact that you can't cancel your subscription without waiting for an email from a rep. also drains my phone's battery very quickly.
The collar itself is 5 stars. I've tried multiple GPS collars and this is the most successful one I've had so far. I especially love the health features and the battery life of the collar itself. Which makes the reason I took 2 stars off almost ironic: it's draining my phone battery just about as fast as watching videos does. At first it wasn't nearly as bad, but I updated the app maybe two weeks ago (?) and all the sudden it started draining my phone like this.
Neither the app nor the collar work. The collar battery started draining fast, and I reached out to support for that and multiple app issues. Their resolution was to have me pay in advance for an additional year subscription and then they would send me a replacement part for the collar. Well, that didn't work, and getting a response has been horribly slow. Each resolution only addresses a small part of my issues, and takes time to test, then I have to start over again. Wish I'd cancelled.
Not accurate. GPS usually doesn't connect to my phone, walk paths are not correct even when I have the ap open on the phone with me. Customer Service is virtually non-existent and not helpful at all. They just direct you in circles. Product replacement requests were repeatedly ignored. In short, it's a relatively useless product that you pay for in advance, and once you paid no one cares if it works or not. Community feature and step count is cute, though.
I have had this for about 2 years, and at best, it is just okay. I have used it in big cities, towns, and in the middle of nowhere across 10 states. The tracking isn't reliable anywhere. I have also had a very bad time with customer service they forced me to upgrade when the series 2 charger broke in less than a year. If there was literally any better option out there, I would switch without a second thought. Step tracking works, but all the location stuff needs improvement asap
Update 4/1/23: they've fixed nothing and added more "features" that don't work! Yay! New dog park tracking doesn't work at all. App is just trash. They should fire their dev team. Started with lots of potential. Hasn't really gotten any better and now the price has doubled for fi3. Not sure it's worth that since the app is really clunky and the GPS tracking isn't consistent enough. Also they are using scammy and false advertising to push deals that don't add up.
We have had fi for about a week and it has been alright. We were under the impression that it would track their heartbeat more thoroughly (instead of just determining stress levels during a walk or letting us know our dog is resting). The GPS tracking provides "points" of location but doesn't track the exact route- which in an emergency, would be much more helpful. A plus is the community page, as it provides insight to how many steps similar dog breeds are getting in.
GPS tracking is on at all times. There is no option to turn the collar off. A social network is built in and turned on by default. It's a little hard to find things in the UI, but tracking is easy. Explanations of how the collar works are good. I've only had the device for a week, yet there is already major cosmetic damage to the device casing from my dog's tags bouncing against it when he runs or shakes. It does what it's supposed to do. I just wish they kept it simple.
Not great. I use the Fi 2 which supposedly doesn't require you to pay for the subscription. However, the recent app update doesn't allow you to see steps from previous days - you can only see the current day's steps. Also shows my dog leaving the house in the middle of the night when he's sleeping in his kennel. It's a bummer, but I'm not paying for a year's worth of subpar GPS service when all I want is to see steps.
More of the same as the other reviews. We leave the house, and the app shows the dog at home (even after 60 minutes). The app itself is pretty unintuitive, and there is no one to help with tech support and troubleshooting. An AI chatbot saying, "did you try restarting the phone?" EDIT: we only purchased a six month subscription (because we weren't sure it would work) and they DON'T OFFER ANY TIMELY SUPPORT for a six month subscription. Why would you not help your new customers?
Used to sometimes show my dog randomly thirty miles away. Now, it just throws constant notifications that I need to open the app for some reason. Wouldn't mind all that much if there was any explanation for why I need to constantly open my app (background processes, etc.). This needs a resolution, quickly. This is a paid service, not some free app.
I enjoyed the app and collar the first few months I had it. I noticed the battery life advertised was not even close to the time it actually lasted, even with him staying connected to the home base most of the time. Times when I did need to use it because he got out, it didn't help find him due to him not having a connection or something like that. Sometimes, it even said he was home when I was chasing him through the neighborhood. I stopped using it, and now I can't even open the app anymore.
I do not recommend this GPS collar or the app to go with it. The tracking doesn't work over half the time. It either can't connect, I receive the notifications that my dog left the safe zone after he's already left and returned or the GPS map literally shows him out of the safe zone but it says he's "home". The lost dog feature also rarely ever works, it can't connect or it takes so long to connect to the collar that it's faster to just walk around town looking for the dog.
I have only used the collar & application for 4 days. 2 of those days there was no issue (outside of a false GPS reading while our dog was on a walk) with the service or app. The other 2 days, the app didn't track our dog's location while on walks at all. There is no phone number to reach customer service. They only have email which is ridiculous. I will be returning this product as soon as my return request is approved. Of course they also don't pay return shipping on their useless product.
GPS accuracy is 50/50 at best! Notifications of leaving the "Safe Zone" are also very specific. As it is right now, if my dog runs away, notifications aren't being sent if the phone isn't near him when he leaves the area. I've taken a few walks with him and intentionally left the phone at home. I NEVER got any notification that he left the area and the tracking misses at least 1/2 of the walk, says he went where he didn't and doesn't report returning home! Not sure this was money well spent!
Like it so far, I think the GPS is good, not very accurate, but gets me in the ballpark, also not concise on walks we've taken. Nice unit, netter then the ones I see out there now. Now it seems as the battery goes done, now at 87%, I get no registration at all. I just took him out and got no confirmation. I have nothing saying anything about any updates
