Great journalism, but the app has some pain points. It will lose it's place when scrolling a list of articles, clicking one, and navigating back. Switching back to the app will return you to your place in an article, but relaunching the app takes you to the home screen and you have to find the article (and where you left off) again. There's also no way to see which articles you've read, let alone what percentage you've made it through.
The journalism is timely, insightful, and important, especially for investors and analysts. They also offer a student discount, which is always nice. The problem is that discount is for the digital subscription---which would be fine had it been more readily apparently that there's not only a (far more expensive) premium tier above that, but there's no such discount for the premium tier. I only realized this upon spotting here and there (unreadable) articles available only to premium subscribers.
Sales tactic are unfair, borderline scam. I subscribed to the FT through a promotional offer in February. I decided it was not for me and un-subscribed a few days later on their website, which is very cumbersome. 6 months later I realized they were still billing me... I paid over $350 for a service I didn't use and they now refuse to reimburse me...
Great articles! I love the voice assistance but it would be nicer if the voice didn't sound so robotic. Sounds like the default voice from 2010! It would also be great if you could add AI summaries for a quick glance. That'll be very handy for a quick review before diving deep in.
useless if you don't have a subscription as it ONLY selects "paid for" articles to see. If you do subscribe at the "low-cost" £70/month rate, it's excellent news and analysis. They really could do better for the free, non-subscription version and at least supply something more than headlines for the premium articles. How about putting headlines from the non-premium articles? Oh and even the £70/month version has adverts.
Ultimately very functional, with unobtrusive ads and shows the content well. Has some very unfortunate performance struggles though, and I wish the graph widgets allowed for a bit more interactivity as many of them are just plain images and often I wish I could highlight specific points e.g. in time, to see raw data. Otherwise, a more than acceptable method to access the ft.
Comprehensive, clear and data laden reporting. A little subjective bias in places in order to give meaning, clarity and context to the facts but not too much to distort or feed a political echo chamber. The app is fluid and well laid out. Whether YOU feel the price is justified though is another thing, the app works very well.
I really wish there was an easy progress indicator for each article; it's so frustrating to have no idea how much more there is to read. A scroll/progress bar is so simple but the FT team has eschewed this concept for years. Why? It can often take multiple back taps to get back to a menu/myFT. The Economist app is far better!
Hey FT, is it possible to improve the search function at all? I'm trying to find an article about Tuna fishing published couple of months ago and searching for tuna, tuna fish, tuna fishing gives me random unrelated results. would be great if you try the search yourself and let us know how it goes. thanks
Bug: When using with intermittent internet access, the app loads/reloads adverts, which causes the text of an article to jump up/down, so you lose your place while reading. Makes it impossible to read articles on the tube for example. Otherwise the app is average. Journalism is great.
I subscribed for a year and felt like it was not worth the money. The set up for the comment section for mobile app feels very janky as if they haven't made improvements since 2010s. And some of the articles are written with very obvious bias it might just as well be paid propaganda. Also it feels like they are abusing the brand by having the "premium" version which is just a greedy money grab. overall, for me it's not worth it as I can get the Economist for free from work
the app is usable but some designs (like the menu and popup dialogue box) feel like they're from 2016. And you can't tap on pictures to zoom in on them.
Freezes regularly, borderline nonfunctional. Suspect that some of it is related to the growing volume of advertising, especially all of the auto play videos. It's also a battery hog and constantly bugs me about enabling notifications. Pretty disappointed considering the cost of a subscription. The journalism is as good as it gets on many topics, but this app is so bad that it makes it unreadable. Stick to the website.
Great news site. The best newspaper in the UK. Some stories won't load but that maybe because I only have partial access. Although on many of stories it states I don't have a premium subscription plan.
Excellent content, easy to navigate, and good user features. FT app is brilliant when you are on the move.
Seems like a good app - easy to navigate. I don't subscribe to FT but I get the odd free article and a look at the headlines, so I have no complaints.
I was sold a (cheap) subscription on the basis that I would get internet access albeit slightly curtailed. I get lots of emails but there are hardly any that open up even though they are in the printed edition, which I also get. it is said that I can read the printed edition, but not on my phone as far as I can see. The paper itself is fascinating albeit slightly hard going.

Remembering what the Financial Times was the first time I picked it up and trying to summarise that for this review in light of the differences with the app is not easy as I did not habitually read the newspaper nor did I subscribe online. Thanks for all the effort. The request to provide feedback for any app comes at the wrong time. You should pose the question at the commencement of usage, or within an hour of initial consumption, then allow for conscious reviewing of the experience. Learnt.
Having paid the subscription it is most annoying and distracting to have the intrusion of several ads in each article. Having selected the most popular in the comments section of an article it then doesn't make sense for the comment to be followed by a long thread of replies before the next most popular comment. Also the comment section stays in small font when larger font has been selected for main text.
Needs to have auto-update and sync turned on to update any of the articles?? What was wrong with the manual updating for offline reading? Can't stand it when you're using your phone and some random app wants to use all your data for something else you don't want right at that time.
