This app used to work great. Then a feature stopped working during check-ins. I have been in an ongoing battle with their support for over 3 YEARS. I have heard every excuse in the book, my favorite is being told it is a user error and then to be told the next week it is a known error, they are still looking into. Now, I'm being told it's not a high priority bug to fix and it only affects Android users. 1 star for a support team that cant solve ONE ISSUE in a year. I've been beyond patient.
It's definitely useful, but a few edits could make it extremely usable. I love having a timeline of the places i go, but the check-in process is pretty restrictive to present, current, online locations. I wish you could go back and edit the time you visited the place. Sometimes my phone isn't or I've had a couple places that didn't automatically generate and when I go back I can't edit when I visited it. It also has some hiccups when you try to check in from a friend's place.
After the most recent update, every single time I check in I'm prompted to update my settings to allow Swarm to access my location when I'm not using the app. I don't want to change my settings, and being continually asked to is really decreasing my enjoyment of the app. Even after selecting the "don't ask again" option from my phone menu, I keep getting the pop-up. I've used Foursquare/Swarm for almost ten years, but I'm not sure how much longer I'll be a user if this continues.
This app used to work great, but for the last week it's been disconnected from Facebook. Every time I try to reconnect, it sends me to an error screen saying that app is not active and that the app producers know of the problem. I have been in contact with Swarm customer service and it's like pulling teeth. First they told me at my account didn't exist until I sent them screenshots and my swarm account number, then they suggested things that I had already done four times.
I love this app! Been using it since 2011. I check my day in history almost every day and reminisce, enjoying all the memories! I learned over the years to add notes when I check in or go back and add them later. They help me remember what I was doing at that location! Plus, when I found a couple of small quirks throughout the years I submitted tickets and their support team responded and resolved very quickly. Did I mention that I love this app?
App has been fine, but I ran into a frustrating big that the developers seem to think is with my phone. I have a Pixel 3a. I set location permission to "only while using the app". Even though I had a dialog window that asked for "always on" location, and then has a "remember my choice and do not ask again" when it comes to the only while in use option, the app asks me EVERY TIME if I want to change my settings to always on. I've tried uninstalling, reinstalling, removing my settings.
Planet Fitness location permanently closed all of a sudden? Go to drop a pin, it's a duplicate. Gym quit coming up for check-in, which is open 24/7. Not closed. Uninstalled to reinstall, but since I use it primarily to track my gym check-ins, I'll leave it uninstalled. Foursquare, too, which said the gym I was standing in the middle of was permanently closed. 😂
Use with friends to keep track of what we're up to and rack up points to see who was busiest. Doesn't work half the time!! Now it won't let me connect with Facebook or login and I'm sure as hell not creating a new login and starting over. Guess I'm done with swarm. edit: had to recreate my account in 2017. I have streaks of almost 500 weeks going(9+ years) & suddenly half of my places are gone, or recategorized as something else, with weird pictures attached that don't belong?? SO MAD!!!
Horrible app. Not user friendly and sends you in circles. Foursquare before Swarm was much better.
I've been a user for a long time, enjoyed checking in and seeing where friends have been. However, since a November update I'm having major issues with the app finding my location so I can check in, I try opening & closing the app several times, it helps a little bit but not a lot. Don't try to report a bug or provide feedback within app, you'll get an email saying undeliverable. I tried emailing support via computer and no response, if it don't work properly then I'll have to delete account.
Have been using this app for years. Perhaps often overuse it as it gives me a "timeout" & no coins when I've done too many check-ins (often frustrating as they're all correct). However what's most frustrating about the latest version is no longer being able to add photos. I thought at first that it might be the image size, But even resizing hasn't helped. My app also has all the required permissions, so it's not from my end.
It's been great for years but since the most recent update, my check-ins constantly fail. It happens several times a day and re-installing the app hasn't helped. Quelle damage. PS: there's also been a problem for ages when you add a photo and accidentally hit 'Confirm' too soon, and the app freezes up and has to be closed. Frustrating bug.
I've been a Foursquare user since 2010, and use it every single day for checking in and researching new venues. My only gripe is that, at some point in the last couple of weeks the app has developed a fault whereby it doesn't seem to file photos correctly in my device storage so I constantly get notifications about a "new photo storage location" having been detected. This has happened on two separate handsets, so can't be a local issue.
there is problem with Notification, i'm not getting it even when i reinstall the app 💔
Absolutely terrible app. I cannot even set a profile picture and after I reinstalled it, I can no longer log back into my account. Here in the reviews, they tell you to contact customer support. However, it seems that their customer support team is basically a bot with the single function of sending an unintelligible auto-reply email. I also suspect that their app development team is also a bot, because a 12 year old playing around with an app building tool would have done a far better job.
Great app, very bad customer support. I have contacted customer support for 4 weeks now only to be asked the same question 3 times. I keep getting automatic emails from their system saying I haven't responded to them, even though I receive an answer from them 2-3 days later. I would really like to give this app a try but their customer support makes it so difficult to communicate my issue - app cannot locate me.
I use the app all day round and thanks for the developers. I often recognize some bugs, and this is something negative. Also, I strongly ask to make all the name of chain stores appear. (Ex. Not "Mcdonald's" but "Mcdonald's Queen Street") This made me stick to Japanese because those information are shown in Japanese version. Also, there is a big bug. When I change the listing from "latest" to "distance" it crashes. When this happens I need to reinstall the app so I want the bug to be fixed
14 years & ready to move on. Was fun when first released, Foursquare was useful. When gameidication became the focus, app lost usefulness and became a data collector with no added value. Tips are old and not update-able, closed locations linger, full of rule that aren't published, or logical. Developer is unresponsive to negative or constructive feedback. Not many non-Meta alternatives, but keep looking and don't waste your time here.
The app doesn't work anymore. The idea behind it may be quite interesting but it is (and it always was) buggy. It always had problems connecting to the internet (unless you had a very strong Wi-Fi) but now it doesn't work at all. It does nothing except for showing the misleading "We can't find you!" message. What a nonsense! Only one star for a very poor programming.
I've used this app for years because I used to travel for work and I liked being able to see where I've been on a map and remember the names of places to recommend to people who are traveling somewhere I've been. Now that Foursquare is dead, I'm hoping they bring back some of those features for Swarm, which is a much better name anyway. Note for dev team: On Android, it's creating a new folder for every image, with the same name as the jpeg filename. Gotta be a wrong var in a new File()
