Genius — Song Lyrics Finder

My initial experience with this app was weird with a barrage of notifications, and I un-installed. But after trying some other apps, I decided to give it another chance. It seems to be working now, and I plan to continue to use it. My wish would be that it could highlight the current line and follow along like karaoke, but I'm pretty happy that it identifies my currently streaming song and loads the lyrics quickly. But why do I need a username???

Great app, hands down the best lyrics software I've ever used, although I did prefer when on the website there was a drop down menu for translations and romanizations as opposed to on the app where you have to search the language for translation or add "romanized" to the end of your search or they won't show up, which took me a long time to figure out. Overall, great, though!!

If you're only downloading this to look at the lyrics, then it's perfectly passable. However, in almost every way the website is better. With the app, you can't edit the lyrics, titles, or album tracklists or metadata, and it lags. I also didn't see a way to add a song, though I wasn't looking for it. On top of that there's a couple little things, such as the number of views not appearing alongside the songs as you're searching them. It's not terrible, but the website is so much more convenient.

Works great! Sometimes it doesn't identify certain songs off some albums but it usually identifies alot of the songs I listen to. Recently though, it has become EXTREMELY laggy, everytime I open the app when I click on the song notification, I have to not do anything for a solid 5 seconds so it doesn't freeze and if I don't, it lags extremely bad to where it becomes unusable. No idea if an update did it because it definitely isn't my phone lagging, but other than that, it's a fairly decent app

I got this app back in June and it worked fine on my phone. The app was fast, responsive, and loaded lyrics just fine. Now, the app freezes constantly and crashes way too much. I thought it was because of the phone I had, but other users with high end devices also have this problem. Whenever I want to play a song from the lyrics, it plays for about 10 seconds then crashes, so please fix it...

I'm more of a casual user but, overall, this platform does not disappoint. Easy to find songs and artists and lots of background information. I love this. My biggest gripe, though, is that sharing is a bit clunky. My suggestion is that the Share button for sharing annotations creates an image button with the lyrics (or as much of the bars that can fit in a reasonable square) that you can post to socials/messengers. Keep up the good work!

This app is pretty terrible. More than 80% of the time it doesn't even identify the song you're listening to, and it doesn't even work when you have the app open. Even well known artists/songs aren't indentified. The app is slow, buggy, and the recently listened to artists don't refresh sometimes, even when done manually. The only upside is that it has the largest and most diverse catalogue of music, making finding almost any artist/song possible.

This app was amazing early on and then, like many people have said, it became unusable due to crashes. I updated it and although crashes and search was fixed, it stopped recognizing songs. I like using it because of the diverse database and annotations, not the mostly unwatched videos. If i have to constantly search each song manually, the music recognition engine should take priority over the videos and not the other way around but otherwise, it is ok.

Awesome database (and API) for song lyrics. I just wish i could throw a few bucks at it to make it ad free. I use the app regularly when teaching music lessons and rehearsals when learning cover songs. The ads interrupt the flow of lyrics on the page which both gets in the way of workflow AND slows performance over bad connections. Overall, it's a great resource, but could use some UX tweaks.

The app itself is pretty good. For some reason it freezes on occasion when viewing lyrics, mostly offline copies, and then it has to be force-closed and some time has to pass before it works again qithout freezing. I also wish it would have an offline-only switch, so it doesn't time out when I'm in the train, and I can just view cached copies. Also, notification listening used to work, but now they stopped for some reason.

It was good at first, ive been using it for a while. Recently, in the saved songs menu, the songs that i have saved are being shown repetatively. I updated it, thinking it would make the problem stop, but it only made the problem worse. Some songs in my saved, they're just completely blank. It takes a lot of scrolling to get to the bottom, and some songs in particular are a lot more repetative than others. Please fix this, its really annoying, and makes finding lyrics so much harder

As much as I appreciate this app, in order to have the Lyric Suggestions, you have to give the app WAY too many permissions, including, but not limited to: "contact names and text of messages you receive," "dismiss notifications or take action on buttons in notifications, including answering phone calls" and more. I'm not giving an app all of this just to not have to look up song names

The app itself is great... when it works. But searching for a song, results take around 15 seconds to load. Then, when I go into that song, it's just gray bars all over the screen for at least another 20 seconds, sometimes taking up to a minute or never loading at all. Lyrics that I have saved offline are just as bad with the load times, so I doubt it's an internet issue. I've been having these issues for a few months and have never found any fixes, even from a 5 year old post of the same issue.

I'll start by saying the content on the app is great. It has just about every song I've ever looked up (I use the app for lyrics only). But the content doesn't matter when the app doesn't work. It constantly crashes and/or freezes up. I have uninstalled and reinstalled this app countless times. It's infuriating. PLEASE fix this!!!

Great app for finding lyrics & learning the meanings behind them. I do have a small issue with the Suggest Genius Lyrics feature. For example, Taylor Swift has rerecorded some of her albums, & these are labeled as Taylor's Version. When I play a song like Style (Taylor's Version), the app suggests lyrics from the older, original version instead. It seems like the app doesn’t fully recognize songs with parentheses in the title. I hope this gets improved because the rest of the app is excellent.

This app used to be solid and helpful. The problem is it is very off and on, some months and some years it works flawlessly identifying songs in seconds. Other times it can't identify anything, new or old. It will scan for a long time and then tell you it can't find it or hear it. Doesn't matter how loud or how much of the song is clear or how close the speaker is to the music it just DOES NOT WORK. Sorry to give it a bad review but also very much not sorry and feels justified.

It's cool to access lyrics quickly but there are huge problems with the app. For one, the description of the lyrics frequently does not load, even when you have a strong internet connection. This happens despite waiting 5 minutes for it to load and multiple times restarting the app. Also the app claims to recognize the song you're currently listening to, but it rarely does this for me. Usually the "recently played" songs that the app claims to recognize are actually days old. Frustrating overall

The website is good, so long as you have effective ad blocking, but the app is a cpu/battery hog. Every day I get a notification on my phone of high cpu usage (20%+) for this app and my phone recommends force closure. Did I mention that happens when my phone is idle and the app is closed? Yeah, not a good deal. Avoid.

App Works For Now The app used to work great for me, but for the past few months it's become nearly unusable. The app crashes a bunch of times upon opening, it no longer recognizes the song that's being played, the search bar doesnt work half the time, and if I switch my phone orientation, the app freezes. this all forces me to try to open it without it crashing again. I uninstalled and then reinstalled and it's working fine for now, but if it starts glitching again, I'm uninstalling permanently

Love this app. It doesn't always sync with my spotify, but I'm not sure if that's a me issue or an app issue. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I use this app every time someone shows me a new song. Much easier (and better) than searching google lyrics, and the songs that have the genius notes about the meaning behind the words...you can't find that anywhere else, at least not in one click.
