Put that thing back where it came from or so help meeeeee. This whole teaming up with Kindle for tracking useless goals is infuriating. Why must I have to travel through multiple windows to even see what I've read this year, let alone edit my read dates and rate the books. Why not make it possible for us to search for lists or see all the quotes from the book like we can on the desktop version? This new update is a MAJOR step in the wrong direction.
I am in love with this app! It helps me keep track of what I'm reading and my progress which is a great motivator!! It also allows me to easily create a to be read list! The only thing for me is I wish I could sort my to be read list or even filter it when I am looking for a specific genre, so if looking for a horror book out of that list I can select horror and have all that genre that I've added to the list brought up on one page without having to scroll through the rest!
The app is broken. on PC everything works, but on the Android app I can't access any reviews, friends update that are remotely recent. When I visit someone's profile, it's like it was frozen in time a few years ago, even though on PC I can see they posted more recently. Support says they are aware of the problem, but it's been years.
The Android app is nice for tracking books I've read or want to read, for finding books I might like to read, and for interacting with others about books. But the over user experience could be so much better. Please, please, please, please, PLEASE make it possible to switch to specific editions through the app instead of forcing me to use the desktop version. I end up with so many duplicates because I can't even see the edition on the app, let alone switch editions. So annoying.
Good for tracking which books you've read and for checking reviews on books you might be interested in. I wish it was better at recommending books based on what you've read and how you rate them. I also REALLY wish they included "formats available" in each book's description. That way, if you're looking specifically for an audiobook, a hardcover, or an e-book, you could filter for those categories. It's disappointing to choose a book and then find out there isn't an audiobook available.
just okay.. needs improved.. trying to add friends or find anyone is very hard. I like the concept of the app and being able to easily add books to 'want to read' 'reading' and 'read'. I love that it can link and track progress. wish it offered just a little more while still staying easy to navigate.
My biggest pet peeve is the discrepancies of pages in a book. Most of the books I've read recently this app says there's significantly more pages than there actually are. This is frustrating because I mostly use this app to keep me motivated to finish the book by tracking my progress. It's also super hard to find someone to add them as a friend. I had to do a Google search and fight for over an hour to add someone. I ended up having to go on the website on another device to add them.
Barcode reader has become unusable it's still unusable. have you heard of barcodes? they're magic! IT JUST DOESN'T WORK! every dedicated barcode reader app just comes near a barcode and bam! scanned it! goodreads...n nothing. doesn't react. It works better for scanning the frigging covers (it scans and shows similar but never the same book) but it doesn't react to barcodes. AT ALL.
The app is okay, but not as good as using a browser to access Goodreads. The app could use some updates. Frankly, I'm surprised a better app design hasn't been created considering who owns it. Something simple, like being able to delete messages in the home feed and in your personal message box, seems like a no-brainer with current technology. Sadly, this app is lacking! Despite the flaws, it's still a good choice for looking up book reviews and deciding if you want to purchase/read the book.
I totally love it, use it for several years: great place for keeping a wish list, great place to search for books and reading other's reviews, recommendations, ability to share with friends, even you can keep your reading journal and add progress notes as you read. BUT one sad fact - I cannot find the updates I left in the progress of reading, after I go back to the book I read. I only see those on my android app on my owner page. can Reading Journal feature be added to the book page please?
Lacking important features. No "did not finish" option for books. No way to change book editions on mobile (this is pretty huge) AND when you go to the mobile site, even on desktop mode, every link you click takes you straight to the app so that there is NO way to change the edition without a computer. Seriously? Way too hard to change read dates. Also, UI freakin sucks for a mobile app in 2025. Unacceptable from one of the richest companies on earth.
Great for tracking what you've read and what you want to read. I wish you could hide things from the home screen, like every time a friend makes progress on a book. Makes that screen bogged down. Also, I got a new phone, and all of a sudden my "want to read" lists showed that I add nothing since 2023, which I know is wrong.
I like Goodreads but there are a couple things that I really wish would be fixed/changed. 1. I can't delete a book that I've already started reading from my android. Only a desktop. 2. It only shows my friends' reviews on desktop. Sometimes it shows one friend's review but not the rest. 3. The app is not very aesthetic. It could be a lot cuter.
Amazon bought Goodreads to keep anyone else from buying it. They do absolutely nothing to keep it running. They must not think it is worth the investment. The app frequently closes or freezes for no reason at all. Amazon could easily make this app run better if they wanted to. I'd even pay a monthly fee to use it, if they actually maintained it. No wonder other apps for tracking and cataloging books are rapidly gaining in popularity.
Do better... My end of year recap doesnt include novellas as read books, but my main tracker does, so that's frustrating to see a discrepancy. Also, so many people want to give half stars for reviews and yet that's still not a thing!? I suppose I shouldn't be surprised given its an amazon owned company now, why would they listen to the people who use the app all the time?!
out of date app. it would be very improved it it could suggest books based on your own top ratings, allow others to send you book recommendations, and have a child account option for tracking which books you have read with your kid. it seems like an app that takes a million years to see improvement on, but I love that my friends are on it and I can follow them.
Two times now I have lost my account / data and the password reset doesn't work. Can you imagine having to remember all your reading history for the last 5+ years and having to re input it again?! I was willing the first time, but not the second, which was driven solely by me getting a new phone. customer service is awful. all they did was provide directions for creating a new account. I've asked for an export of my history and they are unresponsive.
Going from barely reading a book in 1 year to reading multiple has made me feel accomplished! Being able to track how many books I've read and when I read them really helps me keep this hobby going! I absolutely enjoy seeing what books my friends are reading, too! It gives me some ideas and inspiration. The reading lists and upcoming books keep me pumped as well! Who would've thought I'd have a reading app as 1 of my top 5 apps, not me! LOL
this app sucks; it doesn't replicate what is on the website for days and you can barely make edits to your profile. can't make any edits to groups on it at all. apps are supposed to be easier access tools for the websites. this one looks nice but makes the website look like disney world in comparison. also I somehow can find books my friend wrote but I can't find the exact copy of a book I'm looking for so when I'm tracking how much I've read I can't track accurately.
the app seems like it is 10 years out of date. I'd imagine they would have recommendations for books based on your reading, but no. the books list is the same constantly, which makes it almost impossible to find new books to read unless you already know the name. the only upside it seems to have is keeping track of books you have read, and even that doesn't work perfectly with the Kindle app.
