GOV.UK ID Check

The app just redirects me to the website and then does nothing. Trying to link it to the UK Government app is a nightmare; the connection fails every time. I can't even register for the UK ID app because the system is so buggy. It feels like this was rolled out way too quickly. absolutely awful , this must be the worst app for trying to do ID . It says remove glasses for a selfie, would nit scan, kept saying put your face closer to the oval shape and despite moving closer it would not scan. I put my glasses on and the scan worked. I am 72 years of age, obviously the app was not tried on older people

Doesn't work. Impossible to take a picture of my passport because it keeps telling me to 'ensure bottom lines are visible' no matter what I do, making the whole app unusable.

Terribley long wided method. Cant even find submit button or send. Have to turn phone to landscape and back to portrait.

your app sucks. loses connection for no reason. Absolutely impossible to maintain documents like this.

Complicated but looks very secure. I didn't see info that both sides of a driving licence had to be scanned until I had taken several rejected photos of the face side.

Gives instructions to do things on the website that don't correspond with the options on the website. unsurprising as it's a government app and likely made by the same Mr Magoo that makes there websites.

Terrible experience caused by lack of pathway to sort things when something fails. We live in Ireland now & still need access to various UK gov services. Attempting to complete registering processing fails every time at facial recognition stage. Android 13 (above 10 stated as min). Several different browsers. Just 'Something went wrong'. No info on what to do next. To make matters worse, GDS team number from outside UK is unobtainable, contact form resulted in cannot help you!! What a joke.

The most ridiculous app ever. Trying to link it to your ID takes round in circles, the online help is all over the place and sends you to various places all asking for a passcode that you can only get from the app you are trying to link. I eventually got a 2 hour suspension for signing in with the wrong credentials. This is a convoluted mess.

it's atrocious, nothing works as it should.. Nephew got blocked trying to Confirm identity on iPhone.. I'm on Android.. it won't link to your account at all without you logging in on a desktop and scanning a QR code.. but doesn't instruct you this is possible via the app or even give you an option.. just says "Link Account" then "oops something went wrong".. Diabolical that they can even release these services that simply don't work without trying to guess how the underlying technology works..

Tried to use this again, as other commentsmade, links send you round in circles, when trying to connect the App on a phone to the computer it is not clear which browser it means you need to go back to, phone or laptop, cannot find a second QR code on Google Play once you download it. Logged out and back again to both the App and GOV.UK ID a few times .... no change. Are you saving money by not having a simulation run and just try it out on the public?

Very easy to use, the weird colours on the face scan part are a bit disturbing,but it worked

Took about 20 attempts to scan my ID as it was apparently too blurry even though it looked completely fine. Tedious 🤦‍♀️

It keeps telling me it can't confirm my identity even when I have done everything accurately. It's very frustrating, I have messaged their support team but theor response wasn't even encouraging. What can I do to complete the identity confirmation process for God's sake!

This Government ID is not welcomed, but that's the best way to deal with a passport, driving licence and benefits. The App works well.

this is useless, relying on IT for something so critical and its full of issues. I'm not impressed with this waste of resources.

I started setting up my login on my ipad and was instructed to confirm my identity on my android phone, the instructions were easy to follow and is now set up.

One of the best ID systems as so many other non Government systems are really buggy and frustrating.

The linking worked ok once I figured out which page on gov.uk to start from. That is where the qr codes appear. This is not clear at all in the instructions / guidance. I needed to be logged in on the service I wanted to used it for, i.e. requesting a tax refund, and then selecting the check id option. Please clarify this on any guidance.

first attempt download installed some crummy game app (I used QR code). scanning my passport chip took several attempts because the scanner 'chirp' only indicates the scan has started I needed to wait another few seconds after a second chirp. With the phone upside down on the passport you can't see any prompts.
