I don't care what others say, but this app has prevented me from trashing my slow phone. Always get System UI crashing errors due to low RAM, and nothing could unfreeze my phone until I used this app. Now, everytime it's slow or frozen, I just hit the power button and in a few seconds it's completely refreshed. I used to think other automatic boosters were working, but my phone would still freeze. Greenify is better!
Update 2/2019: Greenify has decided a number of apps that were previously automatically hibernated are now "background-free" and thus don't need to be stopped...which includes apps like Facebook (which will keep tracking & sending data like your location in the background) so I'll have to manually go and mark them for hibernate which is pretty annoying. Even if it's less useful than it used to be, it's still a decent app.
It's the most essential app I've used for every phone using Android. I have no idea if it's available for Apple, don't care. This app will keep your battery and phone speed at optimal levels with the push of one button, all those installed apps that start themselves, along with others, for example Amazon, that slows your phone down or bogs down your data stream, this will chill out those annoying apps. You can set it up to avoid whatever app your using from stopping and pick every app to drop.
A lot of apps that claim to "tune up" your cell phone do nothing except display advertisements. Not so with Greenify. Not only are there no advertisements, the app actually works. I was having a problem with too many apps running in the background and using ram memory, slowing down my phone. I uninstalled some of the apps, but Greenify help control the apps I did not want to get rid of. Apps have stopped working on their own; I have more memory, and the phone is smooth. I will buy this app.
UPDATE 2-1-19: Six months in and I'm still loving this app. Combine with GlassWire app and you can manage your phone much better!! I was using another hibernating and boost app, but it worked for only 30 minutes at a time. Greenify keeps the downloaded apps in hibernation until you use them or cycle the system. There is a noticeable reduction in the amount of power used and snooping. I Like It! The paided version has some interesting options. I will purchase it soon. Thanks Greenify. .
It works, and it's effective. I would prefer if it didn't have trackers, and if it were open source. Because the app obviously requires some intermate permissions, but I'm concerned about what it's doing in the background, and the data it's collecting, especially with Google Analytics. In the end I switched to SuperFreezZ (via F-Droid), because it's open source, has no trackers, works super well, and I just trust it a lot more.
I have enjoyed the 'Greenify' experience thoroughly, although I just wish it would have the capability to hibernate some of my system apps, that are always running in the background, regardless wether, or wether or not the phone is unrooted. That's my only beef with this app. Otherwise it does everything it says on the tin. Tell your friends, don't put your phone on without it!
Core app I've always wanted on my device all the way to Oreo 8.1. Don't know if the Battery Optimization settings in newer versions of Android have matured enough to fully substitute, I'll see about that when I get to it, but until then Greenify is the anti-background apps solution I know I can rely on (even though for some apps I've really had to say "Ignore background-free" because I caught them drawing power in the background despite having the 'saint' label on them).
I see that some don't get how it works. I've used it for many years, because it extend my phone 🔋 & performance greatly! Privacy too. Do this: open Greenify, when you see the list, ignore it and click on top right + sign, then select all the apps you rather don't want to keep on, like any games, all apps but themes, icon packs & communication like email should not make the list. Hit the ok ✅, then setup a Greenify widget or add a Greenify homescreen gesture like double tap. That's it.
If you're Android 8+, you almost don't need this anymore. What's more, not only will it not serve the purpose, but what should've been a function to benefit, might only deter the more advanced built-in doze function of latest Android versions. You might just end up using more RAM than without it. That said, older versions of Android should still benefit.
If you seriously want iPhone level battery life on standby get this app. I uninstalled it accidentally and started noticing my battery seriously draining. I really thought that it was time to get a new phone. I remember oh shoot Greenify is no longer installed. Since reinstalling and enabling aggressive doze, I am getting fantastic battery life. This app is a must have for all my phones. So yourself a favor and follow the steps for aggressive doze, you will enjoy the benefits.
I used to think this app was great but they've done something to automatic hibernation that makes it infuriating to have enabled. I very often will lock my phone realize I need to do something else open it and it's still hibernating everything and will completely disable whatever I'm trying to do until it's done locks the phone and then I have to unlock it again.
Oh my!! I think I found the best app that will extend my battery life! That app is Greenify! It helps extend battery life and prevent from lag! It's great! It's so good to use! Useful!! My idol recommended me to use the Greenify app to avoid lag and extend your battery life! I recommend it For those of you who have very short battery life. This is the best app for you!
It appears the app was abandoned. Some features no longer work and links are broken. I can't upgrade to the donation package that unlocks features, the link to the 'read me' posted here says "no longer available". Greenify still helps though and I loved it when it was supported. I'll miss it.
Does not work with Android 14 unrooted even though it says it is does. The donation package is no longer compatible. No new updates since August 2014... I have to close apps manually. Several apps are not even showing up anymore, so I can't shut them down. YouTube isn't seen, so it constantly runs in the background. Unfortunately no one has made anything similar to this app. It really needs to be updated and made to identify the apps to shut down. Also needs to work with 2025+ newer phones.
How can Greenify work well (the problems in my 2023 review righted themselves), yet the Greenify donation package be incompatible with my phone? (Android 15.) I was more than glad to be a paid user, both for the extras and because the app was perfect so the dev deserved support. No longer true. Instead I have found and am about to try Hibernator, where positive reviews seem to be full of Greenify refugees. Oasis Feng, you've lost a loyal fan.
Actually force closes apps instead of killing process. Most apps remain closed and do not restart. Makes device maintenance very efficient. I use this app many times throughout the day on my phone and tablet. Excellent job! 5/6/19: No longer works. Keeps closing and won't hibernate any apps. Disappointed I updated a previously excellent app for this. 5/7/19: Happy that after a few reboots and system setting changes it works great again.
I love this app, but I've a suggestion, have you ever thought about adding some kind of a countdown setting? Like it can stop apps working after 30 minutes etc, for example for Spotify so that we can listen to some music before sleeping without worrying :D I know there are many other apps but somehow I don't trust them.
Working well, tested recently. Sometimes its feature itself some has problem, which is fixed by "force stopping" the H Greenify. Then turning off/on from Accessibility option in the settings. Just 10-15 sec procedure, and this will troubleshoot all the problems.

I don't know why but the accesibility permission of greenify is always getting turned off automatically, so I need to turn it on again every time I'm gonna use greenify. I don't know if I can prevent that or not. But besides that greenify is very useful in stopping background processes.
