GROWLR: Gay Bears Near You

The app is hit and miss. Sometimes you get messages without a notification or you get a notification but no message. It's very slow to update locations - several hours up to days. It's very slow to update who is online. The main page might show 50 users, 40 of them have not been online in the past 24 hours. The app needs a lot of work.

This app is in my eyes very basic and not used by enough people to even warrant getting the pay version. In the "nearby" profiles shown, there are about a third of them that are a reasonable distance away, then they jump to 50-60+ miles away! I KNOW there are other users closer that have been on within the last 24 hrs, yet aren't displayed! I'm really not interested in viewing folks from 100+ miles away that appear in the "nearby" section! Waste of time in my opinion.

Poor customer service Pretty sure I've left a review already, but sure, I'll leave another one at your request. This application has suffered from the same error for years. If you change applications while loading it, it results in a permanent error that can't be resolved without re-downloading the application. As all the messages and history are saved within the application, it is all lost in doing so. I've sent 3 service requests over years and they all go dead silent.

Provide update notes!!! Whatever was wrong that wouldn't let me register seems to be working. Just don't expect ANY support. you can do most things without paying though which is rare. Interface is outdated and clunky. Limiting blocks should be illegal. blocks are a safety feature Especially because there are a ton of overseas and scammers on here.

Only one photo viewable without Pro subscription. App is rife with fake profiles who try to entice you to questionable websites. This has been a problem for over a year. Also limiting things like "bookmarks" (formerly Favorites) that used to be unlimited, just so they can give you more if you pay them. They're not as limiting as Scruff but that's not really saying much. Also, their ad provider has some really sketchy clients. Update: No longer better than Scruff.

The navigation of Growlr is very user friendly and all the features that are available with the free membership are great. My criticism would have to be all the fake profiles that have overrun the app. I would say the majority of users I receive messages from turn out to be either bots or catfish. I really don't like that the distance isn't required to be revealed, and there always seems to be profiles showing up in the nearby grid view that end up being on the opposite coast, or like Beirute.

My chats seem to be down. It says I'm getting message notifications but the chat windows are blank, even when I try to send messages. They are not even appearing in my read messages or unread messages lists. Not sure what happened as it worked up until the past few days. I even tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app with no change. :( I hope this gets fixed soon!

I've used this app on and off for several years. Unfortunately, lately one if the biggest annoyances are the bots, sending me messages to invite me to their site. Of course I don't click, but block and report them, but unfortunately they keep coming back. This is becoming annoying as hell. Update 7/31: Reduced to one star. Using in-app reporting and blocking feature and bots still happening. Am paying for monthly subscription. Surely that should account for something.

Only a limited number of nearby Bears visible unless you're a paid user. Limited number of blocks unless you're a paid user. Invasive advertising that is loud in volume and ruins any chance of privacy. The app is currently being taken over by "bot" profiles. I've had the paid version in the past and it isn't much better. I'm having a continuous error pop up every time I try to make my profile, I've tried all the troubleshooting paths I know and nothing seems to work. it keeps saying that growlr is experiencing an error and to try again later. I've had the app before and wish to be able to log back on, however this error message happens even when I open up the galleries and who's nearby. please remedy this!! :(

I love the idea! I do like the app once in a while, BUT I am constantly getting these "we miss you" and "to keep your account active" messages. So then I login and instantly get 3 messages from scammers asking me to go to their website. No wonder why I don't login all the time! There seems to be more fake than real! And I have not been able to send or upload pictures for some time and tech support was no help!

I agree with others; help is nonexistent. I keep getting the "Growlr experienced an error. Try again later" message... five weeks. I emailed with all info and they replied to make sure I try all the things I just told them I already tried. They did not respond to my second or third request for help. I've been a (mostly) paying member since the get-go. It appears they just don't care. It's a bigger bummer because I was just starting to connect with one bear.

You can't easily report spam. They have the fewest number of viewable thumbnails compared to other popular social apps. There's no way to add outside social sites like Instagram. Furthermore, their TOS make this like a gay version of Christian Mingle. It's very sanitized. Being able to zoom in on pics would be nice. In my opinion, they have the least bang for the buck for free users compared to other gay social apps.

Messaging is glitchy and unreliable. I get message notifications of my messages, but they aren't downloading. No way to check for updates. And not much in the way of support. When it's working it's decent, but a long ways from being a leading choice in app selection. Ads are currently locking up the app and making it hard to navigate. I reported a problem but got no response. I deleted account and app. Only wish I could rate lower than 1 star. *Update! Still sucks!!! Update made it even worse!!!

It seems that several issues with message sending and delivery that have plagued this app have been resolved. Though there are times when some typed messages dissappear as soon as you hit send. I think this mainly has to do with network connectivity. Update: the app was better for a while, but in the last year or so it's never been worse. Seriously thinking about canceling my subscription. The number of lost send messages and unnotified messages has gotten crazy. Stupid to continue paying.

WHY DO YOU LET BOTS OVERTAKE THE APP?!?!? I've reported easily a dozen! Server errors don't need to be happening. This app has been around for enough years now that you should have overcome that issue by now. You still can't zoom in on pictures, why is that? I don't want to touch the screen and save the picture, if I really need to save somebody's picture, I'll do a screenshot. There is still no incentive for me to buy a pro subscription when basic issues still elude your ability to fix. 🙄

Before Growlr was sold to new owners, it worked perfectly fine. The occasional error, yes, but it functioned. Now when you launch the app, 1 of 3 things happens: 1. It gets stuck in a loading loop. 2. It loads, then crashes. 3. It loads but you can't view profiles or send/receive messages. Clearing cache, force stop, reinstall doesn't help. This app has gone down the gutter!

This app has slowly become awful over the years. There has always been an issue with messages going through, but has only gotten worse. Constantly get error messages where the app has to be completely restarted. Profiles won't load. Hardly ever get notifications when you get a message. Messages won't load when you happen to get a notification. Now, when you try to view a profile it auto closes multiple times. Takes trying to view several times before it will final stay up and load.

Ever since the update this app has gotten worse! It lags terribly and often won't send messages because "Growlr is experiencing an error. Please try back again later". This happens multiple times through the day. Even though I have my profile set to "play sounds" rarely do I get a sound when a message comes through. What happened Growlr? How did y'all go from being one of the best to one of the most unreliable???

My experience with this app has been frustrating and the support team seems nonexistent. Initially it would tell me I was not allowed to make an account for unknown reasons I could not figure out. I emailed support, no response. I was then able to make an account suddenly so I did. Didnt get a chance to interact with a single person on the app because next time I tried to log in I was told my account was suspended. I emailed support because I believe this is in error. No response. I give up.
