Gumtree: local classified ads

It's not terrible but it's not great either. It functions as intended, but. It does badger you to promote which costs a mint (although its entirely optional) but the biggest problem. It's barren. NO ONE is using it, there's one ad in a hundred mile radius. Not one search result, there is a single advert in the radius that I didn't put there myself. And the audience is similarly scarce. A buying and selling app with no buyers or sellers, you got to increase the user base or it's simply unusable.

it's easy to put adds on and photos - but getting messages via email just doesn't happen - it's why I was looking to see if there were any updates - sadly not - so someone has waited for a response over 10 hours as I didn't get message and guess they will feel they won't bother now! This is a frequent issue. we all busy and some of us working - so the messages are key to get through to sellers and buyers quickly otherwise what's the point !

App is OK and unlike the dead in the water Shpock it's free. The biggest issue is the amount of absolute time wasters idiots it attracts. I use it to give items away. Who would think that would be difficult? Come here and find out. No shows and ghosting is 90% of your 'selling' experience on here. Used as a last resort. You should be able to report these users and kick them off.

*Edit in response to devs* - I have rejected all cookies and refused marketing in the preferences yet I am still receiving intrusive push notifications asking me to optimise and boost my (non-existent) ad, as well as unwanted sales promotions. There still seems to be no way of blocking intrusive marketing push notifications if I still want to receive legit notifications from buyers and sellers. Poor show.

Too many faults to cover. The Gumtree app has been terrible for a long time. Recently, for no reason, it's suddenly removed my contact details from the platform, other than through the app, which has always been very unreliable. At the moment, when logging into My Gumtree, to check my listings, it logs me out. This is not a very helpful feature. I'm sorry to be so frustrated, but there's also typically very little accountability from Gumtree to help resolve issues.

This app was always a staple. however, more recently, it logs you out, and you miss notifications. I am also finding it incredibly difficult to scroll. The Adverts open my browser app, and then it opens the temu app. It's quite draining to be honest, and it's very off-putting.

I look at this platform about twice a week and over the 5+ years that I have been using it I have found some pretty good stuff. It's a great site to find things nearby. I have posted a few ads for things I'm selling, but haven't had much joy on that score - I find it quite difficult to do and so don't do it much anymore.

think this is me and gumtree parting ways now. I have tried to persevere for the last 6 + months since the layout changed, it stopped being as easy to use and there has been a steady drop off in adverts that I can only assume is because of this. Now there can be days where only one or two ads are added in my local area in an area that used to be busy. the last update to include delivery items has just finished it off for me, no option to turn this off, setting distance filters doesn't help.

Absolutely horrid app. User experience is a joke. So many scammers and time wasters. Always wanting to purchase something and then never showing up. Or worse, wanting to ship outside of the country without paying first. Colossal waste of time and energy. Use another platform.

Update: Issue with delivery appears to have been fixed. Shame that contacting Gumtree (as they recommend) is impossible. Hence 4 stars. Edit: Well done Gumtree, you've broken your own app presumably by not testing the last update properly. Like a lot of people on here I only search locally but the "delivery available" shows everything in the UK. Now the app is useless. I spend way too much time on here having a nosey at the ads. It's a load better than eBay!

it has become completely dysfunctional now that they have locked in ads for items nowhere near my location. this feature should be switched off... gumtree was about localised ads. I don't want to see stuff for sale in London when I live 200 miles away. I want to pick up local stuff!

2 things, every 2 to 3 visits I will get logged out of the app and have to sign in. this used to be a maybe a monthly thing.. Amazon ads. literally every time I scroll past it opens Amazon, sensitivity is set too high. if it isn't then why doesn't everything open as I'm scrolling.

The sellers do not put enough information in their advertisements. Maybe a template to fill in for sizes, model names/numbers on bicycles or cookers, how old a helmet is, etc, etc - should be obvious what a potential buyer would need to know! We are tired of asking sellers the same questions whilst scrolling through lots of similar ads.

The new delivery available filter toggle doesn't work so I have items from all over rather the 3 miles set. This should be basic development and testing even with various devices but can see others all with same issue. I can't use until resolved so looks like it's eBay with distance filters instead for now

Old app was great this new version having so many probs, I getbpeople interested in items for sale but my replies aren't getting through to them, I think I have 2 e mails but im not technical minded, tried closing both alcs but I have to send proof before they will do, as I saynim not technical minded, thought if I close them ill start again, im so frustrated that I can't reply to these people please go back to the old system, I could send an e mail and somebody would help not any more

NO NOTIFICATION ON MESSAGES. I advertised my business on here and got notifications for the first message. then several months later I find out I'd been receiving messages over those months but got no notifications for them.

So if you block someone for poor behaviour, it should mean they are permanently blocked from everything to do with you, meaning they cannot see your profile or anything you list ever again, because they have been blocked for a reason. But gumtree still allows people who are blocked, to view your account, ie adverts, and leave vicious unwarranted feedback, all because of bad behaviour. So, its nice to know gumtree permits psychopaths to potentially stalk you.

ads are lasting too long have been up for 13 weeks and still havent expired therefore dont get seen by people. dont like how they are now offering delivery as gumtree used to be local collection only so now most messages are poeple asking if i can post even though i clearly state in description collection only. would sell on ebay if i wanted to post items...

Messaging not working in the app, no notification when message is received, sometimes no email notification,also search radius is not correct example when you put 30 miles radius it will show places that are even 50 miles away but it won't show some adverts that are local

Gumtree doesn't care about the customers. only way to contact for support is the chat and staff aren't even aware of UK legislation. I've bought football boots, delivered but the wrong size in the description. The seller doesn't know how gumtree works ro refund and gumtree staff (3 different people clearly not in the uk) said they can't help, so why have you charged me buyer protection? Gumtree have blamed their own system but refused to help or refund me? 3 chats closed and messages ignored.
