I am looking for a map app to replace Google Maps. this is the winner so far. however, there are odd differences between the Android app and the browser versions. The big difference is that the Android app will search by business name but the browser version does not. Saving places works well except the names appear different between app and browser. but these differences are not a deal killer. So I am happy to switch.
Nice replacement for Google Maps. my only complaint is I wish it would say the actual street names. It mostly just gives a distance and left/right. Please tell me the street name too! Update in response to follow-up feedback: I checked my settings and "Announce street names" is enabled, but the navigation only announces street names 25% of the time.
These maps have really gone downhill over the years, so I can only give it 3 stars. Does the job and it's cool having offline maps, but the routes aren't the best options half the time. It will also lose track of the car sometimes and try to reroute me even though I'm following the correct path. Currently it keeps sending me notifications to update my maps, and then when I open the app it says all apps are up to date...
First time I searched king Soopers nothing came up. Second time locations everywhere except the city I'm in show up. Third time they finally show up, but the results don't include any addresses and zoom out to cover half the state. This isn't useable. It's also listing a location on the wrong street on android auto, but when I search for this location on my phone this result doesn't show up and the location has the wrong name. It's inconsistent and just wrong most of the time.
Changing my review to a 1 star. It has been getting worse lately with routes not sending you on the correct street and trying to send you down a street BEHIND your destination. Android Auto voice will randomly stop talking to you. Motorcycle travel times are still incredibly way off, even with speed limits and all that set. POI are still wildly inaccurate. Has roads on the map that don't exist in places. has buildings on the map that don't exist anymore. this is multiple years after the fact too
This app might have the most inscrutable interface ever. I want to download new maps in preparation for a trip. I open the app, and I'm shown a map of my current area, a Where To? field, and..... that's about it. No menu. No settings icon. Nothing that gets me anywhere close to downloading new maps. What were the designers and developers thinking?
Overall the app is fair but far from fabulous. On one hand the app seems to have a mind of its own. I have loaded routes based on which one I preferred; then pulled up the destination to resume driving again after stopping, only to have it load a route that I didn't want. So it doesn't recall a route you prefer or loaded earlier, even if it is frequent drive. And when you know the direction your destination is; the route the app provides seems to be heading out of the way.
needed an alternative to Google maps since they ruined it. all I want is an app that will read the *correct* directions *out loud* and display the map. this is great. only thing I haven't seen yet that I would like to is the road hazard/speed trap alert, but it's a small trade off for an app that actually gets me where I'm going without getting lost!
Works well! It sometimes sends me an odd way but so far that's actually worked out better than if I'd taken a traditional route. I'd much prefer side streets to being stuck in traffic on a freeway and so far this app has done a phenomenal job at respecting that. My only nitpicks are when I'm not using it to navigate. The map position in Android Auto is locked to North only, and the clutter on the map is distracting. That changes w/a set destination but I wish I could change it in map mode.
Love the data privacy! It's about 85% accurate on route suggestions and realtime traffic, speed limits, lane guidance. Good enough I've used it for >6 months. Show stopper is POI information. It's missing many POIs (vs Google or Apple Maps in the US) when searching by location names. Finding nearby POIs by general search (restaurant, ATM, bank) fails badly. Locations aren't found AND locations are shown that don't exist; these aren't usually due to change timing.
It's driving me crazy that once I add a place to a collection, it loses its label! And the only way to figure out what that label is...is to manually click on each one. Please fix this or I will go back to Google Maps. The ones that are not added as favorites have clear labels, which defeats the point of labeling favorites. Google Maps does not hide labels on favorite places. I do appreciate that the app does respect privacy, which is why I am looking for an alternative to Google Maps.
By far one of the best navigation apps out there. Sometimes the routing options are questionable, but in the end it makes sense, sure to ongoing traffic. Map updates are frequent and welcome. Unfortunately, you're stuck with the system voice for navigation. I wish it would revert back where you can select a different voice.
This is not worth downloading. First, the app gives way too much info during navigation. Second, I never arrived at any of the destinations programmed. I always ended up stopping navigation at the destination with this app, still giving directions to the destination, never announcing, "you have arrived". I un-installed it. Got MapQuest instead. Works great.
I used Saved places religiously in Google Maps and appreciated the ability to see ALL my saved places on a map, no matter the category. For example, I could easily see if one of my favorite stores was near a restaurant I wanted to try, even if they were in separate collections. I can't do this with this app, since it seems I can only view saved places on the map in one collection at a time. And it's frustrating that I can't add notes, since some locations don't have associated info yet.
After using this app for a few weeks now, I want to rate higher but can't. I'm sending in my thoughts through the app's comments but the app just has too many issues. 1. when you stop directly under a stop sign, it says you are still 70 feet away! gps logging is inaccurate so you can easily miss a turn without knowing until it's too late. 2. map is too zoomed in, can't really see where I'm going especially in places I have never been. 3. inaccurate freeway names. 4. ditto for some routes.
App is a great alternative to google maps IF AND ONLY IF YOU DON'T USE ANDROID AUTO. The Android Auto experience is horrible if you want to look at the map without navigation started. UI blocks half the view, cannot be hidden. If your car, like mine, had a physical joystick or knob instead of a touchscreen, then it's completely unusable (try to zoom in or out...). Had to uninstall and go back to the one and only google maps, which I'm trying to replace but nobody can compete with.
Tested a 2nd time after a couple years. Bluetooth has improved. But still the maps only give directions. It does not show road closures, acting as if the road is open. I verified 2, 1 even after a week closure. Trip times do not account for heavy rush hour traffic. Instead only adding a couple minutes, not the near normal twice as long. The app is great at dynamic reroutes, but I have to run into the trouble first. It's better than paper. Support offered little at my report previously, soooo.
HERE is a shell of what it once was. For some reason, they decided to remove the easy to use navigation for a more complicated one. They replaced the isometric view that would show what's coming with a very limited bird's eye view. The great selection of voices (like surfer) have been replaced with a robotic one that always sounds annoyed. My wife and I used to recommend this to everyone. Now we hate it and are looking for a replacement.
It's slightly better than average especially considering it is free. IMO it is one of the best free navigation apps that work offline. However, directions sometimes are confusing and it does not have "junction view" like now defunct Navigon. The most annoying thing is that it cannot sort favorites by distance from the current location. This feature was available on Windows phones. How difficult would it be to have this on Android? For example, when I look at my shopping favorite group, first stores that appear are from a different state because they were the first bookmarked: favorites are sorted in the order they are entered and it is impossible to re-order them either by distance or in alphabetical order.
This used to be a great app. I have used it for a long time and only after this new update i am forced to use something else. In offline mode - 1) it doesn't search as good now. Says can't fi d go online! 2) it used to show 3 routes now only 1. Most times that is not the one i want to take; only way to get 3 routes - go online! 3) i had all offline maps they disappeared. Had to download them again. Now i have to find where the old ones are delete them! 4) map gets stuck or freeze a lot more....
