the app regularly disconnects from the hub saying "cant reach this device right now." It then tells me the device is offline, which it isn't as the thermostat still works. To get the app reconnected requires me to reset the smart hub by unplugging it at least 6 times and hoping it decides to work again. its very time consuming and frustrating. This is the 5th time it's done it and I haven't had it for a year yet
This used to be excellent. Now, however, for some time it has been taking an extremely long time to open our heating. The app opens instantly and shows all the smart things you have connected to the hub, but we have only one, the heating, which buffers endlessly. Often we have to close the app then open again to open our heating controller. Useless. Very poor user experience. Yes we have the latest version.
The Hive app itself is quite good. The "Customer Service" is abysmal. When the hub stopped connecting to the Internet, I followed the instructions in the Hive app to repair it. They didn't work. I called customer service, and had to go through everything again to prove it didn't work properly! If that's the case, why have the troubleshooting steps in the app? Just connect us through to the 'local' Indian call centre for them to tell us what to do....
Just wondering if someone can tell me why the Hive app has gone from being reliable to totally unusable without constant force stops every time I want to do something?
Don't like the updated app, doesn't respond when I increase the temperature. It could be temperamental before, but the screen would blink to show it has registered, now it doesn't. When it does work, it takes ages to turn the heating on, so you wait ages to see if it's going to switch on or not.. Easier to go downstairs to switch on at thermostat which defeats the object
Schedules are all incorrect following the start of British Summer Time. Rather than leaving the scheduled times as they were, the app seems to have advanced all the times by an hour. This morning, for example; my heating and hot water were due to switch on at 6am, but the app has amended the switch on time to 7am. The same thing has happened for this evening's schedule and for every other day. Even when attempting to manually adjust the times, the app is adding an extra hour to everything.
all it does is twirl around and doesn't action anything. Having to use Google home to get di anything Reinstalling hasn't fixed the issue. This is becoming a joke and is rendering the product completely useless as it can't be relied on when away.
This was a good app and easy to use if you only needed to control your own home and not any elderly relative's as well. Unfortunately they decided to update the interface and now it is one of the most awkward unusable apps I have had the misfortune to use. It was easier to use in every single way before the changes. Re-ordering the dashboard used to be easy. Now it's impossible despite their instructions. I hate hive now. Waste of my time.
The app doesn't let you remove old devices that you no longer use, like a thermostat from a previous house. It says to contact support to do this (why can't you just have a button to remove it?), but then clicking the button to launch their support chat causes the app to crash. I do like Hive, but not being able to remove an old device causes problems with other connected devices like Google Home. We shouldn't have to contact support to perform such a simple action.
(Updated 30/03/25) With Daylight Saving Time on today, the heating schedule sucks! No such problems in previous time switches, so what's happened? Already unistalled and reinstalled the app again, but the problem persists! (15/04/24) 2 Stars: Used to be very good. But this week the app often suddenly logged me out nearly every time I tried to use it. I had to log in again and again. Also, I could only use the old layout, but not the new one. What's happened to it? Worse with the latest update!
Well, it had to happen - this app has been gradually going downhill since we bought our Hive heating system around 7 years ago (it was great to start with, simple and responsive with useful widgets); and with the latest update it's completely useless. Pointless changes to the UI, slow performance, around 70% of the app devoted to adverts for additional paid services; and, crucially, the status of our hub and thermostat fails to load - it just whirrs around indefinitely. Time to downgrade!
90% of the time, when I select Hive to access my heating, all I get is the circles loading. I have to log out of the system and relig in to access the different modes. This has been going on for over a year. Last time I wrote this comment, I was contacted to be told it was a known fault and a new software was going to be rolled out soon. As I say that was over a year ago and still nothing.
Absolute Rubbish. Not just the app but the whole system. If wifi drops the hub doesn't automatically reconnect when it returns. You have to power cycle not just the hub but the thermostat and thermostat receiver and eventually you might get everything working again. Absolute junk and rates as one of the most unreliable bits of tech I have ever owned. We live out in the sticks and power cuts and internet outages are quite common. I wish I hadn't gone with hive and tried an alternative instead.
Overall, the Hive heating system works well. Scheduled heating works, as well as monitoring and turning on/off the heating from the app. However, the app itself is the problem. I need to constantly close it to see the temp. Also, why is the temp graph in a different tab?? The UI is the main issue here as it's not seemless at all. Basic features being locked behind a pay wall (Hive+) is an absolute scam. I have much more to say, but the review limit is at its limit.
Easy to use and relatively simple to install. The customer services team were helpful but the first person I spoke to didn't seem to understand that the base unit doesn't need to physically plug in to the router or that the thermostat works as an extender anyway, as a result of the ZigBee technology, so recommended that I had to buy an extender. In fact, by connecting it wirelessly to the router (simple), it works perfectly without having to buy an extender.
The heating is off, so you want to boost it for 30 minutes, no problem, EXCEPT after boosting, the app reverts to heating mode, which will remain heating constantly until you notice it and turn it off. Spoken to Hive, and they are aware of the issue, but seem to have done little to address the situation over the past week or so. They haven’t even bothered to relay the potential problem to their customers. Unforgivable.
Handy that I can change the temperature from my phone, really annoying that all decent features are paywalled by a monthly subscription. Yeah it can save you money, but then you hand all that saved cash to Hive. Note that if your Internet goes down, lag spike, power cut etc, you will probably need to do a system reset. I have to do mine regularly, really annoying. When spending this much on a thermostatic timer, I think we can expect better.
I am writing to formally report a critical and persistent issue with the British Gas app and connected thermostat, which is currently unfit for purpose. Despite having an active premium subscription, I continue to experience major problems. The app is highly unstable, and as of this morning (19th December), I was completely unable to control my thermostat remotely via the app. With outside temperatures at 0°C, I was forced to adjust the heating manually at the device itself.
The app constantly fails to load, crashes regularly, or simply logs me out. I have to use Google home to run my heating. Once I set the schedule and it would fire on at random times. British Gas couldn't invest any less in creating this app. I can't even rename my devices. The only benefit is that it does actually turn the heating in the water when it eventually loads, and I ask it to.
they keep trying to sell you your data analysis which should be free....come on stop being so mean BG. Also to many clicks to get to graph. Please put an icon to click on main page. The whole UI could be improved. You should not limit schedule to 6 and I need it to increase. You should be able to have as many as you want. Also I have an additional Hive mini for the extension and it rarely kicks in at designated temperature settings. Very poor quality Hive. Central heating Hive works well
