the platform itself is amazing. my issue is solely with the website and app itself. it's buggy and not intuitive. I was just trying to purchase a lesson pack via PayPal and it kept accepting my card... but not actually processing the agreement. there are other times where I've tried to reschedule a lesson, confirmed that it was actually rescheduled, only to discover that it didn't go through on my teacher's end. really frustrating and it definitely makes me less inclined to use the service often
it's a good platform in general but learning a language means having conversations, and the platform now kills the lesson when the time ends, which is very frustrating. it really should be up to the teacher to end the lesson. maybe it was being abused somehow, I don't know, but it made lessons more annoying to have in the platform. before this change it was five stars.
I've set up two different trial lessons and in both cases the classroom did not work. the first one had sound issues - he couldn't hear me despite my mic lighting and permissions granted - and the second ones he was saying I didn't join, even though I did (and left, and tried again). The app itself feels cluttered on the landing / Today page. And generally navigation is not intuitive. Also when I went to buy credits the UI didn't reflect a successful payment the first time until I backed out.

I've tried two lessons so far and neither have been good. Not because of the instructors, but because of the app. Both times my instructors and I had to move help this app to Microsoft Teams or Google Meet up (or whatever their version is called) because they couldn't hear me or I couldn't hear them. Until the app cleans up this key issue, I don't think it's worth using for tutoring. Instead, I would suggest booking the season and requesting to meet over teams or something else.
Overall a good app, lots of great features like access to podcasts and other helpful features in addition to searching for tutors. I took off a star because I'm not a fan of the recent app make over. They changed the navigation and interface, and now I have a hard time finding anything. Lucky for me I have another device with the previous version. Also not a fan of the "AI fish" they implemented. I'm concerned they're trying to turn this into another duolingo.
I can't even begin to describe how bad these UI changes are. The app and platform are just completely unusable. The entire point of their service is to find teachers and take lessons, but you can't even do that anymore. Good luck searching and finding any teachers, and have fun trying to get into the classroom, assuming it even works! Now it's all AI chatbot and begging you to give them more money for their AI features. If I wanted AI to teach me, I wouldn't be here! What a shame.
No way in app to contact support. App said I had coupon if I spent 100, but when I paid I got 0 for the coupon. Very sleazy. Also when you pay they add on another service charge of 4 or 5% depending on payment method. Scheduling is clunky. This is the main purpose of the app, but it is tiresome to use. You have to book one lesson at a time and pay for each one as you book. There is no way to book a series of lessons in one go.
Not a great sign up process for new users in the app. The password field is limited to 20 characters (very odd choice, that is unreasonably low), but when you choose to sign up with a Google account, set a password using my password manager, then tap Continue nothing happens. No explanation that the secure randomized password I entered is too long, nothing. I may as well have not even pressed 'Continue'. I'll reinstall when the sign up process actually works.
Teachers are great. The app seems to be great. The payment system is horrendous. Many apps are based in China, but still have Google Pay or accept bank credit cards, but it doesn't accept my bank card, it won't accept a Visa gift card, & I don't have a PayPal. I finally had to borrow my friends card to pay for lessons. Before posting this I searched online and found many people have had this issue. There is even a help form about it on italki. Giving you my money should be the easiest part!
I have been using iTalki on & off for about a year now. I enjoy it very much! You can do trial lessons with different teachers to help find your perfect match at a reduced price. There are so many teachers so you're bound to find the perfect fit for you. I have found mine & love my teacher! 디아씨 makes class so fun, engaging, & an environment free to make mistakes & take your time to learn. I'm so glad I have this app!
Italki is THE best platform for language learning (if you want to actually become fluent), hands down. No stupid up charges, there's a diverse range of teachers and teaching styles (just take your pick), and every teacher I've ever had has been super helpful. There are high level professors that you can pay top dollar for, for a structured curriculum, or you can have a more affordable (not less good in any way) informal teacher where you simply just work on your conversation skills. 5 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
It's good overall. One problem is you can't sort My Teachers by language (like on the website). The tutors are a mixed bag. Some really don't know what they're doing. I wish I could hide teachers I didn't like, don't work for me, or am not interested in from the search results. That would save me time looking for new teachers. Some don't use my preferred communication tool and it's a waste of time trying to find that out every time (you find out after attempting to book a lesson).
This app makes it easy to finally reach your language dreams at your own pace with easy scheduling, finding the right teacher who's a good fit for you and reminders for your lesson. I particularly love how easy it is to schedule sessions. I also really appreciate it. The free trials to see which teacher is the best fit for you. I highly recommend it. I've used it for Italian and currently using for French.
Got this app because I wanted to upload files directly from my phone to the messages. When I found out I couldn't do that I was disappointed. Good platform but the app is missing this critical feature. Edit: reply to my comment misses the point. I'm aware that you can share files if you're a premium member. The feature works fine on the desktop site. But I take pictures of native materials with my phone and want to send them directly to the teacher from my phone. The APP cannot do it.
iTalki is such a fantastic app/site for learning how to speak in another language and/or getting practice once one is decent at speaking. There are many teachers and tutors to choose from, and the ones I've had are high quality. They also give notes based on what you learned in the class. The hour-long video chats I have (you can select from various lengths and prices) always seem to go by in a flash. I have so much fun every time, gain confidence, and learn a lot!
iTalki is an amazing resource, with fantastic teachers that can teach languages at all levels at your individual pace. I have met great teachers who are also great people! Rates vary, but can start at amazing deals that honestly low-ball the worth that you get from the lessons. Just be careful, as you might make some great friends and then want to take many more classes! I can't rate iTalki highly enough!
I've been using Italki for about 2 years to learn Japanese, and I've found several amazing tutors that I work with routinely. Italki classroom is good, and if there are issues, they permit you to use outside platforms such as Zoom or Skype, which is great. I don't really use the app for lessons, but for messaging and scheduling, it works just fine. My experience on the platform has been pretty seemless over the many lessons I've done. I recommend Italki to all language learners I know.
iTalki has gone from being from of the strongest language learning apps to the absolute worst. The app itself is bloated, slow, and not the least bit intuitive. on my newest version of Android there are bugs that dont even allow me use filters to find a language partner. If I select the language, it doesnt let me continue on to the next filters. As a teacher, it is impossible to change ANY TEACHER SETTINGS on the app, and the mobile site automatically directs you to the app. Impossible to use.
The customer service is really quite terrible. I used a referral link in order to get a $10 credit, and for some reason the credit didn't go through, even after purchasing $30 of additional credits and waiting the requisite 48 hours. When I contacted customer support, the Beijing-based representative was curt and simply kept repeating that they had no record of my link (even after they asked for the link and I provided it) and closed the ticket. I thought that was pretty rude and callus.
I am new, but so far have had great experiences with the teachers I have worked with. This is such a valuable opportunity to learn. The app is very easy to use in terms of looking for teachers, sending messages, booking your class. I love that you can get an appointment right away within 5 minutes if there are teachers available. The app for actually having class time was glitching a lot, but using other meeting platforms was no problem. Maybe in time those kinks will get worked out. Fantastic!
