The meal planning is so nice and even the recipe generated grocery list, but I think there's room for improvement. I likd to bulk purchase a cut of meat or hand pick my produce so I do wish it gave you the option of using the grocery list as just a list. But if you don't want to place the order through the app, you can't just access the recipes in a weekly plan, you have to favorite them or lose them. I understand they make money through the grocery feature but I would rather pay a subscription
I love this concept. i think it could be VERY beneficial. My biggest issue is i live in a very rural area and the only nearby grocer is walmart which doesnt appear to be an option on this app. and im not driving extra miles to shop at a place that doesnt seem to have all the ingredients anyway. i like that if its a new recipe, it makes a list and also shows you how to make it. i can do the legwork so the app can be a good tool. i just think this app would rise to the top if Walmart was added.
Absolutely love this app! Jow makes meal planning and grocery shopping so much easier and less stressful. The recipes are simple, family-friendly, and actually realistic for busy days. I love how it builds my grocery list for me and helps avoid overbuying, which saves time and money. The interface is clean, easy to use, and the recipes always turn out great. This app has become a weekly must-have in my routine. Highly recommend!
This is by far the best app ever! It helps with meal planning, it links to your grocery app, and adds all the items you need for the menu you picked. It has so many recipes, but you can also add your own. Then, you can add items you need not on the menu (example toilet paper or nongrocery items available at the store). Then, just pick up at curbside or have them delivered! It's helpful for busy lives, people on a budget, and those trying to pick healthier meals. It's great for meal prep, too!
I am SO HAPPY I got this app. I used to avoid cooking because it was such a hassle to come up with meals to make, and ingredients to buy. I've used Jow for one order so far (4 recipes), and I'm really impressed. Jow made everything so easy, down to setting up pickup at my grocery store. Now, I do think most of the recipes need more seasoning, but that's easy to tweak. I just love how customizable the app is with dislikes and equipment you have. We've been eating way healthier since Jow.
I wish I could give 4.5, but I'll round up. I really like this app because I'm good at cooking, and I don't need to rely on the recipes. (If you want to follow recipes to the letter, you will probably find these very bland. At the very least, know you have to add seasoning to almost every one.) It's great for giving easy ideas because the meals are incredibly simple. I also really like that I can save my own recipes. So in short, Jow helps me get past mental block in cooking and shopping.
I absolutely LOVE this app! It lets me list various dietary preferences (dairy free, vegetarian, etc), but it also lets me list "dislikes," so I can even find recipes for loved ones who have tons of food allergies, without worrying about it being a problem! It asks how many people I'm feeding, and what "equipment" I have (slow cooker, oven, fryer, etc.), and then it makes me a customized list of recipes based on all that information. It even makes my shopping list for me! I LOVE Jow so much!!!
Mom w/ ADHD. Literally life changing! I'm sad that there was a recent log in issue that tanked the scores. This app deserves 5 hands down every time! I no longer meal plan, I no longer do in store shopping because it interfaces with your grocery store (not all but I hope they add more soon. GREAT app anyway)! The recipes are always yummy and EASY! I've used a lot of apps of this kind. Because it's free I expected little but WOW. A few interface quirks that you have to work around but worth it!
I don't like that it literally forces you to shop and purchase ahead for pick-up. I like to shop since I retired early this year. Also, in my area, curbside upharges 4-10% per item versus self-shop. So I used this app once to purchase what I needed for two recipes from my grocery store on-line cart then deleted each item as I shopped it. Then the app kept putting all the items back in my cart. I suspect that's how you monetize? In any case, I'm out. The forced/steering behavior annoys me.
Adding an inventory tracker would make this app incredible! The best way to save money on groceries is to eat what you already have. So I'm picturing an inventory section where you can add common household items and when you go to make your meal plan you can select between Own, Need to Use, and Low Stock options. Then when generate the meal plan in addition to filtering out dislikes the algorithm should prioritize accordingly. And also the capability to add your own recipes into the rotation.
It looks like it has some way to go before I'd switch to this, but the concept is great! Right now I use Instacart and Anylist but Jow seems like it'll eventually be both those in one and more. I would like to see low sodium as a diet option for those who need it, and perhaps an option for moderating how often you want something, like pasta only on Fridays or dairy only two days a week. I'm going to keep an eye on this to see the updates as I think it has a lot of promise.
I think this app is wonderful in theory, and its design is gorgeous and intuitive. I had the settings on 'vegan' however and I could look through every recipe the app had to offer in 15 minutes. Additionally, I am trying to watch carb intake, and there is not even a low-carb (or keto) option, and the vegan recipes given all average about 30-40g carbs per meal. I would love to use this app but its scope is far too limited for myself at present.
4.5/5 stars - As someone who is working 2 jobs and full time in grad school, the amount of decision stress this removed was phenomenal. I don't have to think about what to make, I don't have to make the grocery list, and though they don't have any stores from my lil corner of nowhere it still saves me time. I know how to cook but the recipes are dead simple a child could do it easily. Some trouble with it losing menus so fav recipes you really want.
It's ok. I don't hate it but I also don't love it. I wish there was a way to build a meal plan and save it without having to purchase groceries through the app. I also would prefer that it had a login separate from the store I use as every time that the store logs me out something changes. My settings and preferences or worse my collections which I've been using as a work around for not being able to save meal plans. Now I have to look 4 recipes up again. Not a big deal but defeats the purpose.
There are a lot of discrepancies between the videos and the written recipes. I've found different/missing ingredients written out compared to what's shown in the videos. I've been disappointed with a few of the recipes due to this lack of attention. The concept is good, as are some of the recipes. Seems like they just need to get their ducks in a row before posting the recipes. If you use this app, don't just trust the generated shopping lists. Read the recipe AND watch the video first.
I have been absolutely amazed by this app. I have always struggled to find balanced meals that my "meat-and-potatoes" spouse actually enjoys. This app has just about eliminated that issue entirely. Not to mention this apps ability to help us explore a creative menu on an extremely tight budget. I no longer have to stress about how we're going to achieve an easy, functional, and affordable meal plan and I couldn't be more thankful. Can't wait for more grocers to be added!
For this app to have been released in 2018, i would have expected it to be a lot better. I love that it has the recipes available. But the refining options do not work. I am allergic to shellfish. I put the dislike option for shellfish, and it was still pulling up shrimp dishes. Even after i put dislike for shrimp too, the same shrimp dishes kept popping up. There are also too many pasta options. If you are trying to lose weight, you have to refine even more.
It's an okay app. I like that it will generate X number of meals for you, but if you don't like any and remove them, you have to hand select a replacement. I would prefer that it just adds another random recipe. The dislikes section of this app needs to be redone also. There are quite a few things I find in recipes they suggest that I don't like, but it says they don't have any recipies with it. Including things I'm allergic to. There's a handful of other improvements they could make, too.
I've gotten the app to select recipes I liked, make a grocery list, place the grocery order for pickup & made my first recipe. So far I love it. Everything was very clear & easy to follow. I have never really known how to cook, but this app is going to help me change that! The amount of stress it relieved for finding 7 meals recipes, figuring out the needed amounts of ingredients to buy the correct amounts is HUGE. I'm actually looking forward to cooking! I told a few friends about this app too!
I had trouble creating an account. Both logging in with FB and Google seemed not to work, but when I closed and restarted the app I was logged in and my set up settings had saved. For someone less patient, that would have been the end of the experience and the app would be deleted, but I figured I'd give it one more chance. Will see how using it goes.
