I have been using this app for about a decade or as long as it's been out. probably. Up until recently, I always gotten the best deals on here for plane tickets and for cars. But lately it's been giving me random low prices that that do not exist on the vendor's page. for example, looking for a plane ticket to Europe. Once I click to go buy it on the airlines page, it's $1,000 more. Unfortunately this app has become just another scam. It's a true bummer.
It seems unnecessarily difficult to unsubscribe from price notifications about a trip: I already bought the tickets and adjusted app settings and clicked "unsubscribe" in three different emails, so I would hope it is clear that I don't want continuous reminders that I could have saved money on a purchase I already made. Next time I'll be sure to procrastinate. Deleting the app now. Valuable lessons abound...
Good searches but do not book through them. I used the Kayak app after seeing a good fare online. After booking, I was contacted by the travel agency insisting I purchase seat assignments for an additional $250. This felt excessive, so I declined and instead went directly through the airline’s website. There, I was able to reserve the same seats for only $50. The experience left me disappointed, as it seems like Kayak and the travel agency tried to take advantage of me.
It used to be really good, but recently it's just awful. They often direct you to book at shady sites, half the time the price they show isn't actually available when you try to book (just repeatedly keeps saying "Booking failed" and suggesting trying again, without ever actually updating the prices), it's incredibly slow, and arguably worst of all, doesn't show the best deals, even when Skyscanner or the airlines' own sites do.
The "explore" feature is useless and never gives you the correct price for what you want. Whenever you select one of the dates, the price will increase exponentially. The same thing happens if you select the "show me the best dates" feature. It says you can click non-stop as a filter, but when you do, it does not actually follow your filter instructions.
I really like the kayak app.. it's great for finding prices for many different booking sites. The problem is the search error issue still hasn't been fixed after all these years. Sometimes when I search flights it will only pull about 10 to 20% of the results. Instead of kayak saying "search error" it just displays the results with the majority of the flights missing. There's no easy way to get it to search again either, once it thinks it has all the results it just keeps showing the same.
I find Kayak to have the most customizable flight alerts. It's still the only service I know of to offer flexible dates on searches. However, functionality is not great. For ex when i get push notifications for a low price, it doesn't bring me to the alert. I have to manually navigate to the saved search and sometimes i can't even find the low price i was alerted to. Plus there doesn't seem to be a way to opt out of email alerts.
Does as well as any other app and better than any I've tried, including the over-advertised Trivago. Love the ability to track any flight (even see where it is enroute) and the ability to view all departures and arrivals for ALL flights at any airport. I also like the fly to anywhere feature that will show current best rates all over the country, displayed on a map. It also keeps track of all past trips and total miles travelled. I can't think of any negatives.
Do not use Flight Movers. Kayak allows people to search for flights on Flight Movers. That company scams people into "purchasing" a very "discounted" ticket. I say "purchase" because you put in your Credit Card information only to find out later, by a phone call that the flight has terms such as you having to arrive at the airport 5 to 6 hrs before your flight and can bring NO bags. So they try to convince you to "upgrade" to a regular ticket without those crazy terms. Then steal your CC info.
In the past the app has been pretty accurate with prices. But there's a huge bug in the saved trips right now, where most of the prices in those lists are not refreshing. I have to click on the flight (if it even lets me, doesn't always) to go see what the actual price is, but even then I see the old price when I return to the saved trip. This started after this last update.
wish sorting time options included "latest" instead of ONLY earliest. My significant other is in a different state and I like to leave as late as possible the night before my work week. I have to scroll tons to the bottom. The time sorter is buggy so that's not an option. other than that, I have no complaints. Great app, I like the color coded days for when my flying is flexible and I want to find a good flight quickly
The app no longer works for hotel searches. For the past 6 months everytime i search for a hotel, it floods my list with hotels that arent available for the selected dates. I never find one hotel available until i scroll past 100 unavailable listings. On top of this huge error/glitch, there is no way to quickly contact customer service, it is impossible to contact Kayak through their app, i spent an hour trying to find a "contact" button or phone number or email. Big waste of time over and over.
Ads used to be the same size as the other listings. Now they're huge, take up 2 screens worth of scrolling, and pop up while scrolling or attempting to click on a listing. This type of advertising doesn't work, no one wants it, and its driving people away from the app. EDIT: Thank you very much for fixing the ad issue. I had quit using it for a while, but after last update, the ads have went back to a reasonable size, and no longer take over the screen while scrolling
I actually really like Kayak but hated the share list flow. Someone shared a list with me via email. The email stated I needed the app (I dont want it). Got the app. I was expecting the email to deep link me to the list. Didn't work. It opened an in-app browser to get the app that I was currently using. I want to use mobile web. Uninstalling. Also, I want to log in with my password, not email otp
This app exceeds my expectations. I'm a first time traveler and Kayak has helped me stay organized, keep me up to date and everything in one place. Alot less stress on my part. Instead of trying to remember what app I used for what reservation and having to search through troves of emails I can just go to kayak and with a few clicks I have every important piece of information. Absolutely love it and recommend it. Especially for first time travelers who have no experience in this area.
App keeps giving a failure message for searches. Update: I always keep the app up to date. It now shows flights initially but when you click on the the flight often it will say that it is unavailable. Update: When using multiple day search (+/- days) the results vary depending on the date picked even if you choose one of the overlapping dates. App has really continually gotten worse with updates.
Does not return the range of prices it used to. Useful for identifying which days might be cheaper than others but not locating the best prices. I look elsewhere for prices. My regular journey used to yield up to ten price options including direct from the airlines. Now I get only two prices and the 'direct from airline' prices are excluded. Seems to have become a marketing tool for kiwi. com on my route.
Kayak is the best but lately the app is crashing on my slightly older Samsung S10e. I may have to uninstall and use the web version. The closest sometimes when changing origin city. And sometimes when I type in a destination it doesn't autopopulate with a list of matches and doesn't let me pick that city's airport.
False advertising. When the deals are with an airline website, the booking gives you an error and the price is then higher. This has happened numerous times to me on different days. Even complained to Kayak and they had no good explanation.
Once upon a time, this was a wonderful app. Now, the bugs make it perilous to use. Not only does it not properly and consistently apply the search time window, it also occasionally reverses origin and destination. I missed this at one point and wound up booking a backward round trip. Thankfully I cancelled the trip shortly thereafter.
