Perfect app for cycling. I always wondered where the cyclists in my area got the scoop on prime routes. Now I know. I can't believe it took me years to find this platform. I kept on reverting to AllTrails which proved to be dangerous and useless at the same time, especially for cycling. The navigation is flawless - it even provides voice guidance and several data points you scroll through while riding. Huge shout out to the developers.
Komoot was been great since I first wrote a first wrote a review for years ago. Now it's pulling basic features behind a wall, raising prices for less and generally doing the PE nonsense. After 7 years, good bye koomot. Since you don't even allow route sync anymore I'm cancelling premium and deleting. Nice work "developer". Update: it's ruined
I started using this app back before the aggressive pop-up ads began and basic functions were locked in the expensive Premium version. By purchasing the World Pack of maps, I thought I had upgraded. Now, it feels like a bait-and-switch to have invested in a product, only to have it deliberately devalued (e.g. annoying marketing) in a bid to get more money.
Really great app for self-planned routes. I love being able to set my own route and have the turn by turn navigation guide me through the ride, hands-free. Sharing the route with a riding partner is also great. I set routes for walking using the running function. I do wish there was a separate setting for walking vs. running, but I am content. I haven't been able to use the pre-planned routes yet because there are none in my area, but eventually, I will search those out and explore.
I like the Komoot maps and features, but can't figure out the cost structure - they don't publish it anywhere I can find. I paid $20 annual a few years ago, but recently started using it again and apparently signed up for the free trial. After two weeks it began billing at $4.99 plus tax * a week*! Wow, if I didn't notice that would be $259 a year. Never saw an app renew weekly before.
Trail planning is very good and offline navigation has been great. Easy on the battery too, surprisingly. But I've noticed a few trails are missing around my area. The "discover" function is pretty useless too; I have yet to find any hikes through it. Another gripe is that regions are too small and expensive. I would really like to recommend this app for the trail planning and navigation, but those aren't enough to justify the price.
Dissatisfied with the poor customer/tech support. "send us more info" and nothing really changes. The map can't be rotated. Missing a lot of bike paths built in the past 2 years. Can't modify a trip once started. Can't set a "home" or recurring starting point. Does not remember usual shortcuts/routes. I regret paying for the premium version, it is not worth it.
I've been using this as my main back country map app and it mostly works with a few major flaws. The worst is that when using the robot voice navigation, the robot constantly warns you if you're not on your route - like every minute - and there's no way to turn off the warnings while recording. This wouldn't be so bad, but many, many well-trafficked trails are not on the app's maps, so a huge amount of the time you have to pause the app to shut up the robot. Also, the maps are sometimes in error (I've had streams show up out of nowhere). Edit - it just started failing to let me save routes offline on my phone. I'm probably done with this app.
I suspect it's okay if you've used it for years. As a noob it's dense, confusing and hard to plan a route. Finding a ride results in a tangled mass of lines, none of which match the ride that didn't get saved to your profile. There's no auto rerouting, so when you take an alternate road it doesn't help, it only points out where you went wrong. Saving a ride takes 5 screens and generates an annoying email. With all that overhead it's not worth the bother. Deleted my account and the app.
Route planning based on fitness level seems great, but it's useless. I tried planning my bike commute as a test. I'm not the most fit, but I'm definitely at least average. Even when I set the fitness level to "couch potato", it showed me the most unnecessarily difficult route with a bunch of avoidable elevation change (a huge downhill followed by a huge climb, when there's a totally flat detour available)... and still underestimated my travel time by a significant margin.
Loving this app so far. Took me a new way home. It's not perfect, but it does turn-by-turn bike directions really well with options to get to point B fast, take the scenic route or get your nobbies dirty. I'm still a new user so I'll write something more meaningful after I've used it a while, but I'm sold enough to plunk down the $30 for the worldwide maps addon. I used RideWithGPS (which is good) the last year and this is by far the better value.
The app still works, but the product seems to be shifting to social, e.g. my "home" screen is full of social shared stuff I have never signed up for nor can i turn it off. every time I finish recording, it asks me a ton of social-sharing-questions that require extra clicks to skip. I get it that they want a larger market, but I wish I could pay extra to not be part of this sharing -- alas, premium doesn't give extra options to turn this off. so, 4/5.
Looking for routes to go places with my e-skateboard while avoiding busy roads, I needed something where I could set waypoints and make my own routes. This application, combined with my smart watch, was perfection. I made a route on the map, then had my watch backward on my wrist to see the navigation without having to pull my phone out of my pocket once. If you guys add electric skateboard to the list of activities, that would be amazing.
It looks pretty enough, but the route finder completely ignores a bike route with a dedicated lane in favor of a busy thoroughfare with no bike lane nearby. For what, speed? It's not even as direct a route. The route finding function is the only thing that might have made this app worth the whole account creation process you have to go through just to try out its features. If it doesn't work right, I have no reason to keep using this app. Uninstalled.
I downloaded the app and paid for it while I was in the middle of nowhere in the Black Forrest in Germany (I still had a cell signal!). The app is a super resource and I decided to purchase the worldwide maps to save having to purchase anything in the future. The overall performance was very good and I was taken down trails I don't think I'd have found with a map. The voice directions telling me to turn were very helpful. My GPS seems to be slightly off the Komoot data so a lot of times I was walking on the path but the program didn't recognize this--but I was still informed of turns I had to take. I don't know if the GPS problem is with my cell phone or the app, but since the turns were still given to me I don't have a problem with the function. I was unable to figure out how to get the map to turn in the direction I'm walking. The arrow that is by my position dot was helpful when I was trying to determine the way to walk, but I'd like to have the map turn the direction that I'm standing instead of always facing north (I assume). This may be user error/learning on my part, but the map rotating should be standard and shutting off the rotation should be the option. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase and the maps that are provided to use.
It was advertised as a great hiking and biking app to find trails. It didn't do that. It simply showed areas around me that had hiking trailheads. It didn't even show the hikes, it just showed the area to get in. I live in Anchorage Alaska which has some of the best bike trails in the city. You can bike from towns an hour away and it didn't even show them. Either the app was too confusing to figure out or it's only good in some areas.
Needs improvement. The app interface is not well thought out. It works better on the computer. The guided navigation either prompts too much or not at all. It will frequently miss trail turns. It consumes massive amounts of battery compared to similar apps. Loses GPS signal sometimes. I regret paying 29.99 despite its recommendation by GMBN. I can use other apps that work better and are free. If could get a refund I would. Strava, Garmin, Sunto, Wahoo and others work better.
Failed at the worst possible moment. I created and saved some routes offline, since where we were hiking normally doesn't have cell or data service. got to the trail, to get to my offline maps/routes, I needed to sign into the app, which I needed to be online for. also, they claim you can choose one region gratis, but just the one closest to you at that moment. utterly useless if you're going elsewhere their technical support is Zendesk, which is abysmal.
This app is really good, offline maps for the whole region not just trails, and native connection to Garmin Connect. I would improve two things: 1. Ability to browse the map and see trails. This is possible in "collections", but limited to the hikes included. 2. Larger database for US trails. I usually end up browsing in Alltrails, and then re-creating the trail manually in Kamoot. The 2 features above would allow me to use Kamoot only.
I have been using Komoot for about 1.5 years. Great topo maps. Downloadable offline maps. Turn by turn navigation. Ability to plan and save future activities. What sets it apart is the earning in-app merits for sharing hikes with the community. The first area you select is free, but you must purchase region and world maps after. Its $30 USD for worldwide maps. All in all, great app and my go-to hiking tracker!
