I'm a youth programmer at a large library system & a parent to a preschooler. I love this app. My preschooler is completely engaged and loves it. It's a perfect balance of stories, writing, learning to sound out letters/words and sight words. I can't wait to watch her progress through more levels. We finish level 1 in the first weekend. I've been telling all the caregivers at my programs about this app. I'm hoping you make ones for learning other languages too. Thanks for being ad free!

My 2.5 yr old loves playing "owl school" Some of the lessons are a little advanced for her, and I help talk her through them, but she has learned so much! I was looking for something because she is really interested in letters and points out all the T's, etc, in her books, but would often mix up similar looking letters. Perfectly expected, but she loves learning with Duo. I love that it's free and ad free. I'm sure by the time she's more in the target age range, she will be learning even more.

This has been amazing so far for my 3yo! I love the variations in exercises, and she gets so excited to keep learning. One thing that's kind of annoying is that when tracing the letters, it'll sometimes skip ahead in the path so my 3yo isn't actually tracing ('m' for example, she doesn't have to finish the bumps down to the bottom before it registers as going up again). I'd rather she not be learning those loopholes lol but it's been so good otherwise that we'll definitely keep using it.

Our son just turned 5 and he is already reading well, far better than most 6 year olds. He can often read words up to 10 characters long, sometimes longer. Here's the thing: nobody has taught him to read. The only logical deduction is that he's learned from this app, which he's done a fair amount and enjoys, though sporadically (once every 2 - 3 weeks?). The only other possibility is that he taught himself to read. He's only reached Level 5 (of 10) on the app. An unbelievably amazing app!

App is great! It has a nice style and is simple, so kids can use it easily. No ads too! Though it would be very nice if you'd add some other languages. Also, one small thing that is a bit annoying, is that sometimes the voice gets a bit buggy. Like, whenever it teaches you a letter, the sound gets quieter in the middle of the sound, which isn't a major mistake, but it is a bit annoying, for me, at least. I'm a 13 year old trying this out btw, so idk how younger kids would like the app.

Best free educational children's app I've found. Can't believe it's totally free (and no ads)! My almost 3 year old loves it and can do it mostly independently, even when she gets it wrong, because it makes each question easier to answer if you select the wrong thing. It's the only alphabet/phonics app I've found that keeps her engaged for a while. She loves the stories and the speaking tasks. Wish there was a British English option though.

My son, who has just turned 4, enjoys it for a little bit of reading each day. It's very good, I only have 2 criticisms. 1. The difficulty level progresses a little bit too slowly. It's good to start with basics but he gets bored when it remains easy for too long. 2. There is no option to make it British English, so it spells some of the words the American way, which would be deemed incorrect here.

It's okay, but unfortunately there's no option to switch from US english to UK English, so at school, children would be considered to be misspelling words like colour. I think it would be great if there were options to switch to UK or Australian English. I enjoy that you can skip to higher levels without needing to complete the lower levels

I'm actually using the iOS version of the app, but my points should still be applicable. The kids and I love the app. However, I'm working with kids who are non-native speakers, and the repeat-the-sentence stories can be quite difficult for them, especially when there is no on-demand option to repeat the sentence (if I try to model it, the device registers my speech and checks it off). It'd be great if that option is added in future updates. Thanks!

Great app like duolingo, just one problem, which is why I rated it 4 stars. Duolingo ABC is mainly targeted towards younger children, I thought it would help with my English in high school, but it mainly teaches you basic English. I guess it helps to stop making small mistakes, but if an upgraded version of this app came out with certain stages for certain year groups, it would help me much more with my grammar and English if it fits my year group. Otherwise, amazing app! ★

This free platform keeps my adult learners engaged, which is fantastic for them to learn reading skills they need! My only wish is for a similar app with a broader age range, especially for adults or older children with learning difficulties.

Amazing app for young kids! My daughter began kindergarten this year. We've been doing a few lessons every night and I'm shocked by how much she's picked up! Almost three months in class and she wasn't sounding out words yet, but 4 days with this app and she's picking up words from books she's sounded out herself. I also love that it's ad-free and simple to use.

Please add British English! Great app and free! but it's all American English and would be great to have the option of British English words and pronunciations. also instead of the letter names, we would prefer the phonetic sounds as this would make more sense for learning the sounds and reading

Its a good app to teach how to read. But it has too many bugs on levels 9 and 10. It's just books when you get there. Some books have problems with the reading buttons. If you press a button it reads the next book. Book themes are not the best also, with some silly ones as the Yoga Fart.

I really like this app.I am actually 13 years old but i installed this app just because i wanted to know how it is,and it is very helpful and fun. Also, the drawing is so cute. The person who did the drawing of the caracters in the app is really creative! There is one problem is that you cannot choose the language there is the english only.So i hope you add the feature of choosing the language that the user wants ,to give the chance to more people to learn the alphabets of their native language:)

This app is cute and is age appropriate for my learner (review is in regards to my 2 yr old), but it has some basic flaws that I want to point out to parents. 1. The writing portion (drawing alphabet characters) is jumpy and not very precise. My child simply scribbled an answer that was accepted before she even completed the character. 2. The letters have a picture of an animal or object associated with that letter. Educators should not group letters with pictures for young readers. TO BE CONT

The articles said this app would teach English, Spanish and French to toddlers, but the version I downloaded only has English. What's going on here? I wonder if the other languages are only available in the apple store. As for the English version, it is engaging for my toddler, but it allows the learner to accomplish writing tasks sloppily- in a way that would not be recognized if done with paper and pencil. I'd prefer Duo keep kids on the lines so when they write on paper, it is coherent.

I downloaded this app for my child, and while the content is useful, I take serious issue with the tone and language used in the persistent daily reminder emails they are sending to remind my child to practice. The emails are intensely cloying and appear to be intended to guilt her into practicing, saying things like "please put my heart at ease", "I promise I'm not crying... it's just allergies", "when you skip your lesson, I spiral", and "I'm not above begging". Completely inappropriate.

Amazing app! So grateful it's free and ad free. My 4 year old finished all stories and lessons (up to level 8) in 2 weeks. Do I have to change the age for him to have new lessons? Also,I would love for you to include voice activated reading checks (like the real duolingo has for language learners)... that way the kids would be eager to pronounce more and help their literacy. In all 5 stars and thank you for this app.

Love it a lot! The app was promising and helped out a lot. Sadly, English is the only language option!! As a person from Germany, I would've loved German as an available option for my little sister. Generally, a few more language options would've been nice. Other than that I'm really happy!
