I really being able to slow the audio down or speed it up to become comfortable. And being able to save words for flashcards and learning has been really helpful. The only thing I wish is that the saving words was a bit better in context for the language and not *always* so literal. Sometimes, I just want the verb, for example, not everything. Also, wish the mobile app had the lessons & reading options that the browser has!
Netflix didn't work in app only browser. Korean word definitions were wrong, even in the context. App buttons did not work all the time. App used to be MUCH better a couple of years ago, not sure what happened. I subscribed and immediately canceled. So I tried again a year later and it STILL has the same problems, but now I can't even access Netflix. I have Samsung S23+, so I'm not sure what type of phone works best for this app, but it's not mine.
absolutely terrible!! it's very obvious that the content is machine transcribed and translated. It "mishears" words frequently and makes nonsense errors that no human would make. It can't recognize korean words, it keeps trying to "translate" proper nouns, acronyms, and parts of words mixed with grammar markers. It also misses sections, presents subtitles out of order, and even includes subtitles from other content entirely. this app could honestly make your korean WORSE.
no offline mode, which is a real bummer for travelers like me. I'd like challenges on speaking rather than word recognition or listening. I know and understand lots of words but struggle when it's my turn to speak. this app doesn't help much there. it does excel at providing a lot of content, options to read in your language or the one you want to learn, speed up or slow down, etc. The content is often funny and engaging
Use Duolingo instead. The concept is good, but its not user friendly especially for beginners. Sometimes the captions don't work, and the shows that would be great for very beginners aren't even in the language you are learning, which makes no sense. The flashcards should be more customizable and only generate with words you choose but it throws all of the words from the shows you watch on there. The teachers in the private/group lessons are great but the subscription details are unclear.
Limited usefulness, lacks basic controls (like turning off subtitles or accessing support) and has no tools to manage your subscription. It's kind of a trap. I couldn't watch a show without subtitles, and without pop-ups for their flashcard game. It never stops asking. The flashcard system is awful. It's difficult to resume watching a show or series, because the app wants to serve up more content so it buried my choices.
Signed up to find out I can't use NETFLIX on the app. The app needs work. When watching a video is portrait mode if you change a setting, speed for example it goes to landscape mode then you have to have to escape that and it brings you to the episodes list and you have to click back into your video. Honestly, I only used the app briefly and there seem to be issues that make learning frustrating. The method of learning it different and fun. Hopefully the app doesn't take that away.
if you only plan to use the app, I don't think it's worth the money. Buttons are broken, sometimes music works and most of the time it doesn't. You can only watch selects win the browser. Which is understandable but a missing feature in the app none the less. Sometimes popups are off the bottom edge of the screen so I don't know what the buttons are or can't reach them. Only worth it right now if you plan to use the browser version and just do flashcards or something in app.
I love the method that lingopie uses however I'm super disappointed with the app. First, i was expecting to be able to use Netflix but upon opening the app I see it's only available on computer desktop, not mobile. The music function is useless, it constantly pauses even when the auto pause is turned off. The videos will sometimes do the same and they constantly freeze and the subtitles will freeze while the video keeps playing. I have to close the app constantly and re open. NEEDS LOTS OF WORK!
I like what they have started here and hope to see it get better. I love having both English and Spanish at the same time in closed caption. I have a few complaints. You can't change the speed when mirroring your screen on an iphone. You can't turn off your screen when mirroring or casting on Android or iPhone without disrupting the video. I would love to see the ability to set a pause in the video between displayed sentences so I can catch up while reading both languages before it continues.
This has annoyed me right away. I don't have enough control over the app. If I want to split screen while watching. Then I can't see the subtitles. If I want to get out of the automatic full screen, then it's difficult to exit. As it will just pause and play the movie rather than just simply let me out of the app right away. I would like to type the phrases rather than write them down. I guess for now I can write them down instead. * Positive: I'm glad this style of learning exists.
Absolutely sucks. Absolitely useless. The ad said tv shows and movies. Lie. It's short little talks by people. Netflix won't work on your phone, or anywhere else. Basically, you could watch Spanish movies on amazon with English subtitles, same thing. Or better since it would be something you want to watch with no extra cost. Don't do it. I just threw away $80. In reply to their response; I don't need help with; this won't play on your device. Can't be downloaded to a desktop either. Worthless.
Best language app yet! Pick videos you want, play them speed you want, choose if you want English subtitles or just the target language. You can choose to pause after every sentence-- or not. Go forward or backward. Click on words you don't know to get translation and pronunciation; any word you click on gets added to your flashcard file for later review. You can activate the microphone, practice saying sentences, playback to hear how you sound. ENORMOUS selection of video content. LOVE this!!
I like the app overall, but I mean given that Spanish is the 2nd fastest language in the world I would like it if I could decrease the speed to much less than 75%. Or maybe just give me a show for babies. Something I can keep up with to start from. Maybe. Also, the new update seems to be causing the little buttons (home, book, and person) to cover the timer at the bottom, making knowing how much time is left, fast-forwarding, and rewinding very difficult.
LINGOPIE stole my money and now they're trying to hide it! I paid $59.99 for the yearly subscription on May 7th 2021, but every month after they kept charging the $9, so I reached out to them. After going back and forth with them, telling them I want to keep the year subscription, LINGOPIE changed my subscription to monthly but did not refund my $59.99. I have bank statements showing I paid and screenshots showing the yearly subscription on my account.
I gave four stars because of its potential. The app successfully provides closed captions with the opportunity to click on the captions for the word translation, it then collected the words you clicked on and tests you on them later. However, the tests do not actually help you learn. The tests are multiple choice flash cards. This company needs to hire a learning scientist to design a more effective way of learning the collected words.
Terrible, I though features were going to be better but they are Terrible. You are better off going on disney plus and changing the language to Japanese and putting English subtitles. What ended it for me is that you can't take off the auto pay after "free trial." I mean you can cancel your subscription but your free trial instantly ends. It's not a free try. It's a bait to make you forget to cancel.
I loved using this app at first. It is a great way to listen to the language and start to learn dialect. Over time I realized that some of the translations are more buffed out than others. I would've given it 3 stars but being ready to move on from the app, I find I couldn't cancel it because google doesn't register it and lingo won't cancel through the app..
Downloaded for 5 minutes. Sadly, the Netflix tool is unavailable on my mobile device. My biggest problem with the program is the CONSTANT reminder to purchase the subscription! Every other tap is a reminder to purchase and it gets in the way of viewing features, menus, account settings, everything. I didn't take the opportunity to view any content because I was reminded to purchase too many times.
The app itself? When it worked, 5 stars! But when my login failed and they continued to charge me month after month with no way to cancel my account? HECK NO. Their customer service could find no record of me in the system, using my name or either of my emails - and yet they charged my credit card every month! Finally they contacted me to cancel after I posted a bad review. Make sure you keep track of your login information and don't expect much help if things go wrong.
