Hi, there. I've enjoyed using your app for a few years now. I recently received the 2026 update, and I'm currently experiencing issues with it. I can connect the app on my phone via Chromecast to my Sony TV, but when I try playing a movie it stays stuck at buffering. I can hear audio, but there's no video. Let me know if you need more details. I'm sure you've got some more troubleshooting to do, so I'll try to help however I can.
new update is.... abysmal. the new layout is unnecessary and confusing. it doesn't want to connect to my local streaming servers like it always has. and older app, all cast, still works perfectly fine so I know it's not my equipment at home. there's an old saying that goes "Don't fix what isn't broken." local cast was my go-to, it's one of the few apps I even paid for, and now it's.. whatever this is.
I have paid for a Pro version since a couple months after launch. Honestly, the developer has always been on top of things. I don't know what to think now. I've had an issue since the updates back in February and was receiving the annoying ads (which my subscription is suppose to protect me from). This app works with older phones and older tvs. I appreciate that. I also appreciated the personal touch but now is 3 months later and I've sent in countless reports, to no avail, received NO response.
Generally a good app, but lately the web browser hasnt been working. I'll click the icon to show the available videos, but nothing happens. Otherwise it works great. OLD 1 STAR REVIEW: Not sure what changed, but recently I started getting background ads from this app. I'll be using another app, and audio will begin playing. I force close localcast and the audio stops. Completely unacceptable.
Aside from the ads that frequently pop up randomly, this app works well. Although, the casting connection could be better (if that's what this app deals with). For example, when the Internet has some issues, casting through Netflix still works, but casting through this app causes whatever you are streaming to stop for some time. Edit: Having issues with getting subtitles from OpenSubtitles after using it a few times in one sitting.
This app was good at one point but not anymore. Constant crashes, and will no longer connect to my smb shares. I've factory reset my phone, so I've ruled that out. Time for a new app. Edit: latest patch fixed the crashing but I'm still unable to access smb shares. No content is shown, only a "Nothing Found" message. The IP/login details are correct, and the shares are open. 4/16/19: still not working. email me to troubleshoot if you want. Thanks again for trying.
Hit or miss, unfortunately. Many times, the file doesn't cast correctly. Occasionally, only the video plays without sound. Other times, an error is displayed that a file isn't supported. H265 audio? Forget it. 1080DPI? Good luck trying. It's even more frustrating when you pay for the app and it just doesn't get any better.
Worst experience with an app on Android I've ever had. I installed this because I read that it would cast media to a Roku or other device and allow the audio to play locally on the smart phone. I have no idea if that is possible, since the APP DOESN'T DO ANYTHING BUT SHOW ADS. Ads and popups everywhere. Couldn't play media locally. Couldn't cast to the Roku. Just showed more and more ads the more I tried to use it. Honestly, 1 star is way overrated. This garbage should be pulled from the Play store as it is complete malware.
What trash... Either it won't launch, or it freezes the device. It's always something with this app. If your app is a paid app and you aren't going to release any updates for a while, then I feel you're obligated to stabilize the app the best you can at least first. The issues I've encountered aren't device dependant either. They happen with every device I use it with.
These ads are absolutely ridiculous, I can understand some banner ads and the occasional popup, but every single time you cast a video, your phone will play an annoying ad for Best Buy that takes up 100% of the phone screen and features two people whispering as loud as possible. If there were a reasonably priced, one time purchase, I'd happily pay up, but I'm not paying a subscription fee for an incredibly basic application. I wanna buy the software, not pay your bills for you every month...
Paid for Pro but had to move over to BubbleUPnP. When it was new it seemed to work well with both DLNA/UPnP and SMB. Then SMB dropped out. Then there was the Power Saver plague (mind you I do have LC under the exceptions list. AT FIRST INSTALL I KNEW TO PUT IT THERE.) Poor overall Chromecast integration. Lately the DLNA hasn't been up to par either, possibly because my library has grown and it may take a longer time that this app doesn't seem to want to wait for. About 10 seconds it seems to show Empty Directory or something, more often than not the former. Why have a load animation if you won't let the app load. I understand it's loading... about 300 files/details/thumbs I'll patiently wait so long as it works. Sadly it don't work which has been my overall experience with this app for the last year. Had to uninstall.
Uodate 3: Went to add fire tv to devices and its stuck in update mode, wont force stop, nothing. Update 2: Reduced to 3 stars. Still doesn't work audio or video codecs for avi and some mkv. Update: Reduced to 4. I can't get it to work with mkv or avi. This is a nice simple app. I gave 5 stars only to get rating up higher which it deserves. I didn't think it would be possible to take advantage of my Chromecast to broadcast my saved/downloaded movies.
Absolutely awful app. It worked on my smart TV for 3 minutes and 23 seconds, lost connection, then never ever found my TV again. Ads pop up every time you press a button, and forget about rewind, fast forward or anything that would be convenient. On the off chance you get it to work you better not touch a single button or you will be watching your movie from the beginning when the ads are finally done again! (Things breaking in background) 😡😡😡
I'm sorry, but there's something wrong with this app. It keeps CLAIMING that a video isn't supported and that is the Chromecasts fault. But that's BS. It will play one video but not another and BOTH of these videos have the EXACT same specs. Same codec, same bit rate, same resolution, same frame rate, and shot with the same phone and the same settings. Yeah sorry, but the app is the problem.
I am one of little patience. I have no idea if this app works or not, got hit with 4 advertisements just trying to look at the settings in the app. I did get One video to play, then got a pop up about audio not syncing because (my gigab it ethernet) was lagging, and then another ad. So I have no clue if this is a good app or not, because of all the interrupting ads in the first 5 minutes of use - not wasting any more time.
I especially like it without the adds. It allows turning the video or photo and enlarging it to fit the screen which is important for portrait videos and photos. I hope sometime it will have screen mirroring so whatever I put on the phone screen would be on the other screen. I do prefer a one time purchase rather than subscriptions. Thanks for your hard work!
I always considered Localcast the most polished app for casting, especially if you have a home DLNA server and want to play and control it's media on your smart TVs.. and also since it supports rotating images. But what undermines it... is HUGE battery drain. I have to force stop the app after I use it. And then also enable background usage, otherwise it loses the current play time. Those two things though are at odds... I can't be the only one reporting this, yet it's years old..
Fantastic at showing commercials, comercials in the way everywhere and heck, lets through in some popups to make it a truly horroble experience. Beyond that it was slow, awckward to use and I never actually got it to work. I would suggest getting some coders to do something other than commercials. Those were the only thing that 'worked'.
awesome. does what I want it to, like the way I can cast and resize subtitles. wish it would work with all video files, I know that is more to do with Chromecast but still don't understand why. having said that, I do use an old version of this app cause the adverts have gotten to intrusive
The latest update has made the app unusable. It had been having more and more trouble playing files, but now it will not cast ANYTHING.
